This video explains about Microbial OD600 Measurement - Optical Density Measurement. OD600 measurement of bacterial culture. It is important to monitor OD for the induction of bacterial culture for recombinant protein production. Typically Induction is done at the exponential phase of the bacterial growth.
OD600 = Optical Density measured at 600nm.
OD600 measurement provides information about microbial growth.
Usually done in a cuvette in spectrophotometer.
Glass or Quartz cuvette can be used for measurement.
Growth measurements has applications in various areas like protein production, antibiotic resistance monitoring, etc

Thank you. I want to know if I want to get 10^6 CFU/ml of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutants and Candida krusei... What would be their standard value in OD by spectrophotometer?

It is such helpful video. But, I wanna ask about it. How we can get the value of 1 OD is 10^8 cells/mL? It is from manual measurement by other methods or come from reference? May I know about it? Thanks :)

Sir if OD is 0.4 what will be then no of cells?

Hi, It depends. 0.6-0.8 OD is typically used for protein induction, glycerol stock preparation, etc

@@ThaoPhuong-xy7oc Hi, what is your application? If you look at the growth curve 0.6-0.8 OD is the exponential phase of bacterial growth. During that phase bacteria will be very active hence that OD is used for protein induction. Hope this helps.
