Welcome to the first monthly edition of Microlight News where I give you my round up of stories from Microlight Flying Magazine along with news and discussions from social media forums and from other KZfaq content creators.
In this month's edition, I cover Microlight Flying magazine's test flight of the FlyLight Aeros NiNE SSDR aircraft along with a potential new flexwing machine that might be entering the UK Market, the EchoPlus trike and Status P17 wing.
I'll also discuss the CAA EC rebate scheme which is closing very soon along with some very worrying news about Popham airfield.

I've been looking forward to this all day. It's a great idea and something a bit different. Being new to the microlight scene I find this a great addition to my favourite subscribed channels. I flew a hornet/nimrod 30 years ago and used to flip my helmet front up coming in to land for airspeed 250 robin only 18hp up comet wing had a lot of fun drive reduction was by 3 c groove fan belts

Yup, I forget to mention that we all have an inbuilt ASI. Using your ears to listen at wind noise is also surprisingly effective. 👍

Another great video Paul. That hole for the Carb reminds me of Mrs Shillings Orifice. Content ideas, I want to learn on a flex wing, add 3 axis to my licence, then maybe look at LAPL. Any idea if we can add a LAPL onto our license for a few conversion hours, or would we have to do the full 25 hour course?

You can only get a rebate if you have a pilot’s license. You can’t get rebate if you’re aircraft owner. I own Gt450 outright but unable to get any rebate because I haven’t passed NPPL yet. I thought pilotaware skyecho was for aircraft apparently for pilots.

You need to hold one of the licenses to get the rebate. You don’t need to hold a license to fly with an EC device. Lots of paramotor guys fly with EC devices.

I wonder why they don't let non-NPPL pilots buy one with the rebate?

@@alih1000 Good question. I guess the funds are limited and the consequences of two larger aircraft colliding would be more serious than two smaller (eg paramotor / sub 70) colliding so they prioritised aircraft being flown by licensed pilots. Just my guess.

How do these “wing vents” work?

Hi Nicholas. They are an undersurface vent which can be opened or closed to let or prevent airflow Into the wing. With the vents opened, they lighten the roll response particularly at higher airspeeds but you will loose a little off the top end speed. Presumably due to increased drag. If you Watch my “NEW WING” video, there is a clip where Giles shows the vents and explains how they work. Ben told me that it’s actually some sort of magic and started talking about Pixxies!!
