In this video, Jeremy Cioara covers how telephone systems work in general and what differentiates VoIP from the analog and digital voice systems of both the past and present. He also describes the advantages of VoIP over traditional systems and some of the real-world protocols that it uses to accomplish this.

Hi, Does it mean that to use VOIP there would not be a need to have Telecom service provider. If we wont need Telcos, how do we then get phone numbers (unique identifiers)?

HI Azza, there are still requirements with a provider to be able to route the PBX systems through the internet. You can register the number you have and then have more control locally within an org to meet its needs. If you had Comcast, they can provide the phone number for you, and the internal phone systems you have could expand or simplify your needs. Hope that helps!

Isn't it use UDP?! I mean VoIP calls needs Real Time Protocol, TCP is pretty slow in that case but more reliable of course.

@@chaozkreator as I said a little knowledge is a dangerous thing which you have just demonstrated. UDP is indeed used in VoIP however TCP/IP is the generic term use for a suite of protocols that UDP is part of. Jeremy correctly described the TCP/IP headers used for Routing the UDP packets.

Nidhin lakshman that is very vague. You want something in spacific yet can't even express what it is you want. If you don't know about computer and Technology a kid version of this won't even help you. P.s. This is probably the simplest form I have ever seen, clear and concise.

calcutt83 actually it did give you a good understanding to how VoIP came to be and what it is. Some of us need the little image of what would happen if sound were not traveling , thats how you learn to troubleshoot. ;)
