Well, I guess I will be changing to Celtic sea salt. I thought switching to the Himalayan pink salt was better, but I am starting to wonder what is safe to eat, anymore. I don't see, on the 3 choices you've shown that don't contain micro-plastics, where the Celtic salt is? It says Taiwan, China, and France. So, which one is the Celtic salt? I am so confused, but that is easy to do with me. 😆 Edit: okay, nevermind, I saw it. That "real salt" is what I buy from the healthfood store, I believe. It was already bagged up, and it just said "real salt" on it, which my brother got a chuckle out of. It is a pinkish red salt, and has a few different colors in it. It is very good. I love it.

Much better information. I hesitate to inform about the microplastics issue. I call it industrial pollution. This is why I grow my own greens and vegetables, avoid dairy and most animal meats, and cook everything from scratch. I'm in my 60's and have no health issues. I think that avoiding plastics and manufactured faux-foods has contributed to my good health and energy. Thank you for updating this information.

Hello. I hope all is well in this new year to all who read this post. Being from NYC, Manhattan specifically, I can recall walking over by the East River with my dad when I was a kid. The Dept. of sanitation held much of the land there at the time and my father would say, "look at those big pipes they go straight into the river." This was the mid 70's, and much of it was condemned by this point in time, and the pipes were not operational, but I always remember asking my father what they were letting into the river and he said "everything". Also, we'd walk along the FDR Drive and you could at points, during low tide climb down a small ledge and stand where the river met the sea wall. I remember wanting to climb down but my dad wouldn't allow it, not only was it dangerous but the water as he called it was "polluted". "But Dad, you used to swim in the East River" and he'd say it was late 1930's and early 40's. This was different, now there were abandoned cars, batteries, bottles, tires, rusted washing machines, plastics of every form, visible sludge, oil slicks as far as you could see, and so much more. He would stand there and always say, "take care of what you have, because when you don't, it will be gone forever." I remember walking around the same area in the late 90's before he passed away, and there was much more optimism but my dad wasn't convinced, and I can't say I was either. The point of my post is this, I don't believe all the pollution that was pumped into the rivers and atmosphere over the last two centuries can be over come as quickly as we would like, and we're reaping the negative effects throughout our lives. I'm not into blaming past generations, because pointing fingers only leads to excuses and more finger pointing. There are no easy solutions, and this problem is being addressed in certain areas, in others not so much and still others not at all. I try to do my part as a mindful person, because I've seen change, the city was filthy at one point in time but receptacles on almost every street corner and concerned citizens have helped and that is good. My fear is that time, and time alone, is going to be the great healer. Unfortunately we as beings with limited time will not see this change, but if we teach, enact, become the change we want, others who follow us will continue what we've started and continued, and that will be a great legacy to leave to our future generations. Peace.

Before this so called recycling thing started plastic waste was put in the garbage, along with glass, steel cans, paper and cardboards. It would get buried in the landfill and you never heard about it anymore. It got expensive and space for it was hard to find nobody wanted a garbage dump in their backyard, so they wanted to separate the recyclables problem is plastic glass and steel cans can’t be recycled so the plastic gets shipped to third world countries and they take what they can use and throw the rest in the ocean. Before you put it in your recycling bin think twice it’s better to put it in the garbage where it will get a proper burial.

Just some fyi (and thanks for your work of enlightenment on these things) 1. in the beginning shots you had lobster in a sink with a sponge with the green side to scrub? Those are bad for getting plastic into the water. We gotta try something else...old fashioned bristles? Still looking. 2. More plastic comes from out clothing, especially fuzzy fleeces - oh there he said...but there's filters for the washing machine now. Gotta find them. We can filter most of it out. 3. I forget. Might have something to do with making companies who profit off of plastic items more corporately accountable. To do something about it before counting up their profits. No. That wasn't it. But it's still a good idea.

Great video. You noted gut microbe studies for some sea creatures. That reminded me of the many KZfaq videos I've been watching of late regarding the human gut biome, the intestinal-brain interface, nutritional metabolism and how much our gut microbes are responsible for it, and what physical and mental disorders biota imbalances seem to cause or instigate. It's been fascinating to listen to experts back off from knowing exactly how to advise us, to demur and have to resort to hypothesizing again because neuroscience and microbiological sciences turn out to be but a fraction as advanced as they thought a mere decade ago. We not only understand our own immune system and nutritional needs far more poorly than we had believed, but we have so poor an understanding as yet that we really have next to zero research on contaminants such as plastic. The animal research will likely be hugely valuable as an analog. Science is especially difficult when (a) manufacturers hide knowledge they have, and (b) there are too many unknowns to easily control for. (a) and (b) combined are why it took half a century to discover that the very presence of transfats in our diet contaminated all but the extremely few studies conducted that controlled for transfats. Surprise! Turns out fats we've been avoiding are actually quite necessary for us and especially the bugs in our gut! My own philosophy is to eat as cleanly as I can manage, one habit change at a time. I'm presently trying to identify and wean off ALL nonorganically produced grains produced or processed in the US because they're all sprayed with glyphosate as a drying agent and preservative. It's an "agent" so need not be declared an ingredient, even though clearly spraying Round-Up directly on the grain is worse than on the growing plants exposed to the elements (unless you're a beneficial insect, of course). We add other poisons and use terms like agents, conditioners, enrichment, and so on. Bromine in wheat flour? Grow other varieties that don't require it for the uses intended. That's what they do in Europe and Celiac and gluten sensitivities are nearly unheard of there. Check out recent university lectures and interviews by professor vlogs, both of which are easy to find here on KZfaq. I'll hunt through my history if you're interested in any of it. Keep up the great channel. I'm glad I found you. You're as nerdy and inquisitive about your work as I am. :)

(I don't know) sharp. Won't the salt crystals scratch some of the plastic off the walls of the bag and add that to the salt (micro or nano plastic)? I would love to buy salt in paper bags, but even those have plastic in the paper for more strength. Glass bottles maybe. So, I say... Take your chances and live your life." Informative video though.

I have been concerned that produce placed in plastic bags deteriorate quickly in the refrigerator and try to remember to replace it with waxed paper when I get the food home. I believe the conact of food iwth plastic may contribute to cancer. No proof but my own instincts when seeing how it makes food rot prematurely. They can replace most all plastic products with products made from hemp. It is cheap and biodegradable. Why are they waiting to do this? We have to ask our grocer. They will not provide waxed or paper bags for produce.

I'd rather eat steak than lettuce and tomatoes! Wonder if it has microplastics too:) I have been using only Redmond and Himalayan for the last couple of years. I will add your Celtic to my list:)

Thank you! Comments like that keep you motivated, because it's a lot of work. And I truly appreciate you reaching out. KZfaq has new algorithms that they've implemented over the past couple years that make it kind of hard to take off. I just have to withstand the test of time. All the best to you!

It is so unfortunate. I've spoken to many agencies that deal with trash removal. It all winds up in the same spot it's just not cost effective for them to recycle. Terrible

YEAH, WE KNEW. DR BERG TOLD US ABOUT MICROPLASTICS IN SEA SALT. WAAAAAAAAAH, WE LOVE THE PURE, FREE SEA.

You don’t need to worry about micro plastics, it’s all another great beat up. Just think, micro plastics are just the same molecules that made up the big plastic part; imagine the Lego blocks that made up that man sized Darth Vader at Legoland. These micro plastic molecules cannot even be destroyed by common chemicals or even by ultraviolet rays. If it can survive all that, then it will survive your gut and won’t do you any harm.
