True but big companies and the government should be held responsible and accountable. They're the reason this problem has gotten so bad. Why put not only the blame but also the burden of responsibility on the consumer and individual? It isn't our fault that this problem has gotten out of hand so why are we expected to fix it?
@emelydas5486

Our need for plastic in everything we use is what leads to the production of it in the first place. The faster we accept our part in plastic becoming this mammoth of a problem the sooner we can put an end to the need and hence the subsequent production of it. I agree that big corporations should be held responsible for producing it and making us dependable on it but we can only pass the blame so far. We need to do our part in curbing it and that will set the course for a change (albeit a small change but an immediate one).

I wish I had been at this Ted talk .BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY IS RIGHT Down the ROAD. I remember the first liquid laundry detergent, when quilt material was always 1oo% cotton, when there was no creamora, when vegetables weren't in plastic containers. I miss those days. I also remember taking apart old cloths and using good parts to make new.....unless a time comes that it doesn't take both parents going out to earn a living there will be no reduction in time saving plastic usage. There will be no make it, make it over or heaven forbid.....do without.

There should be a ban on single-use plastic. A company, selling its product, should only be using recyclable plastic. There is a study which says that nano-plastics are in water bottles that people have been drinking unknowingly for years. I, for one, fear that the nano-plastics I have consumed have leeched into my body, and pose a risk to my health going forward.

If one considers all the ways plastics end up in the atmosphere, including tornados, wildfires encountering civilization, wind erosion, hurricanes, tsunamis and others- it seems necessary to place a one-use tax on plastics not intended for recycle and engage a national reclamation strategy using unemployed US workers(if they are tired of unemployment insurance) and introduce the next generation to what they will be spending time and money on to attempt reclamation of the earth from the plastics rampant within. Part of a green new deal?

This kind of sounds like mental illness… How much is the plastic really rubs off from the plastic things that we use and into our air?? We breathe? Or are we worried about us just about throwing the things away in general? Well the key is to buy things you don't want to throw away, not to get rid of plastic entirely. Plastic is extremely useful; the culture of buying new items constantly instead of reusing/repurposing/making the most of the what we have abundantly. I just wanted to be clear because the whole visual illustration of our plastic use feels a little misleading if it is not primarily concerned with single use plastic/plastic that is thrown away. I understand the anxiety about the contamination of the water supply. (from the plastic in our clothes wringing out in the washing machine). however: does it actually absorb through our skin cells/epithelial layers? Rather, does it pass along with our food into our feces? Maybe that could even help it decompose faster? Lol? I hope that helps ease some of the anxiety regarding the plastic in our every day life. , I believe in our collective ability to do the right thing when we need to.
