I like taking them apart and getting the copper out like your doing buddy! Great video just subscribe to your channel!

I found the easiest way to get the copper out, is to cut the spool and plastic on one side using your diagonal cutter, then if you twist it open you can peel out the copper easily.

You could also bend the wing on the side,then use a screw driver to pry off instead of opening the small tabs. Hope this helps.

I def will try that method, thanks.

I use snips once I have it at the plastic and brass prongs stage just cut the plastic and coper in half. It's very easy to cut. Then it peals off without risk of little cuts and such on fingers 😀. Don't forget the pongs 😊

4.5 To 5 Lbs for 100 Motors, I use a cable cutter & cut across no fiddling around & My yard pays #2 because of the fine wire
@IndustrialPermaculture11 ай бұрын
Thanks for that. I will try the cable cutter technique next batch.

Geez you sound like Glenn Robbins. The copper windings have to be insulated to create a magnetic field. Also if its exposed to air it would tarnish in not time. So yes epoxy coated. just not visible. When I go to the yard I take bare bright for this too. Sometimes for this thin stuff they have a bare bright hair wire category, 20c less
@IndustrialPermaculture11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the epoxy info, that makes sense. Also I’ve never heard the Glenn Robbins reference before so now I’ll have to listen to my own voice (which I hate lol) to see how close it sounds.

Oh god I can hear it and now I can’t unhear it 😂

Thanks for the video! Lbs to kilos are 2.2 pounds per kilo. How about a pair of larger garden shears (lopping shears) and crack it in two? Also, maybe use an automotive pick to pull the copper out of the center spool once it is cut or peeled open? Also, I think bare bright has to be 22 gauge and thicker, NO shellac either unless your yard tells you differently. Thanks again!

Thanks for the input. I’ve learnt a few things since I posted this and I would do some things differently. Plus the copper def was covered in a clear coating.

Pretty sure nobody uses plastic gears for steampunk. Looks like time to get some decent new sidecutters too.

Well i take them put the spool with the plastic in a metal can the burn in a wood fire then I get #2 copper price plus get yellow brass off the prongs or sell them as uncleaned electric motors
@CuriousEarthManАй бұрын
That sounds ecologically irresponsible. Why not shear them in half with a lopping shear and pull out the copper with a pick?
@deanharbord3591Ай бұрын
@CuriousEarthMan because scrap yard where I sell at won't buy it with shalack coating they pay insulated #2 so I burn shalack off I can get cleaned #2 copper price 3.00 a lb compared to uncleaned at .80 a lb
@deanharbord3591Ай бұрын
So what would you like 300.00 for a 100 lbs or 80.00 for a 100 lbs of copper
@CuriousEarthManАй бұрын
@@deanharbord3591 I think I would take the copper off the spool, and put the copper alone in the can in the fire. I wouldn't burn the plastic spool, just the shellac. I might make a rocket stove, and pull the exhaust through some stainless chore girls and through a container of water, and throw that in the trash, for your municipal burn plant with pollution controls. I feel for you, if your only area yard won't buy #2 bare copper wire which some yards call #2 bare wire, 'enameled, burned or shellacked'. Again, I feel for you. I would try to avoid burning the plastic though, but I'm listening to what you say.

@@deanharbord3591 is there another local yard you COULD go to and get full value?
