Can't believe I'm nostalgic to the red ring of death Now we just wait for patches to hopefully fix our problems

I got a premium 360 in 2009 and I heard that there was a rumor that only the premium consoles by that point in time were wholy fixed against red ring, but it just wasn't specifically said. I didn't get red ring and I had my xbox for 6 years until 2015 when I sold it.

you now own my old 360, but I'd leave that thing on for weeks at a time sometimes, it took a tumble down my stairs, twice, and eventually got the red ring some 10+ years ago, did the towel trick one time, and i never got the RROD again. That machine was a trouper.

My rate of failure was 50/50. I had two Xbox 360s growing up. The first one was bought at GameStop and it never had any issues and was a reliable console. The second one I got for free many years later. It worked for all of 3 months before it got the RROD. I cooked it with the towel method and it ended up working for about a month before getting the RROD again. Cooked it with the towel method again and it would turn on and play games, but after a few minutes the game would just freeze and the Xbox would lock up every time. I tried cooking it one or 2 more times but it never fixed it. Eventually it hit the trash.

Funny I heard from reports that this was all Nvidia. The issue did not just happen to xbox but also to graphics cards and laptops that used the same gpu. Same way many of windows crashes were also traced back to nvidia.

the main issue with the 360s had nothing to do with lead free solder, it was a design defect with the bumps that connect the flip chip die to the substrate on the actual chip itself, it was caused after many heat cycles of the console which would overtime would break those connections, overheating the chip would temporarily restore those connections but since it would inevitably have to power off and therefore heatcycle it would never be a permanent fix due to the nature of the defect itself if it were an issue with lead free solder balls on the pcb then there would be issues with the cpus as well and not just the gpus. microsoft actually confirmed this was the issue in a documentary. also the xboxes never had overheating issues the thermal protection circuitry would not allow the console to get to such an unsafe temp before it would shut down the heatsinks were adequate even the smaller gpu heatsinks were fine, they even put them on late model jasper motherboards tldr: xbox's issue was a design defect of the gpu itself that will happen after a number of heat cycles not due to lead free solder xboxes had adequate cooling even with the original gpu cooler as they put them on the late jasper boards as well

Microsoft are such a strange company. Ubiquitous but very, very shoddy all of their products are shoddy, except the Intellimouse!

I just got this on my front page. Since you are a small channel, I won't downvote, but the video really didn't give a lot of information. I thought it was disappointing in that regard.

I've had both XBox and PS, of many varieties, I have always found Sony's products to be far superior, though I have not used any of eithers latest products, I've moved on to PC gaming.
