* Correction * Mike meant to say the Tacoma ditches "Leaf springs NOT Coil Springs" however Leaf Springs remain available on SR, SR5 XtraCab and TRD PreRunner grades (trims in the USA). Big thanks to Toyota for letting us take a look at this pre-production model. We hope to get more Tacoma's in the future and provide a more in-depth analysis/go off roading!

You mentioned twice that you can get a 5' or 6' bed, but didn't mention that you had the 6' bed, and the ? is: is the cab modified (ie: less rear seat room) and is the wheelbase the same or longer than the 5' bed version? My plan is to get the exact truck you reviewed, with the TRD upgrade (not the premium, which is about twice as much)! Yes, those look like molle panels, not airholes! And please, keep at least one hand on the steering wheel!

Toyota botched the pricing on these imo. For slightly more than the Tacoma OR Premium, I can get the full size Tundra TRD Sport. More cabin room, more bed room, towing capacity if needed. More bang for your buck. I’ll be backing out of my Tacoma deposit. $58k CAD MSRP is just a tad steep for what we get here.

Well, if I could have seen and driven both, I would not be here. It’s sad that reviewers don’t compare trucks anymore because they don’t want to be blacklisted by manufacturers. Here is my issue with these mid size trucks other than being so overpriced. I haul things, things like plywood and sheetrock that are 4x8 and the only midsize with a bed to accommodate this without putting boards in the bed is the new Ranger. It also offers a 6cyl. Why this matters when the 4 makes good power? You can only put a pony in front of a horse cart for so long, eventually the pony will lay down. A small v8 would be ideal but thats not going to happen so the 6 is the next best thing. Think of it like this, a big man and a small man might be able to do the same physical job but the small man will have to work harder and in time wear out faster.

With Toyota you can't ever get one exactly the way you want. And too expensive for a 4 cylinder with a short bed. Also, they eliminated the access cab, big mistake. (Too much plastic also.) Time to look at other sources for a mid-sized off-road pick-up. After 3 Taco trucks, I'll be going elsewhere. ps. Their distributor network sucks by making you pay for options you don't need or want.
