@@byroncarr4157 Mr. Wrestling 2 was retiring because he was in his 50s when he "pushed" Magnum TA his body was beat up but he was still doing his part to promote the sport he loved. Had Magnum not had his accident he would have pinned Flair for the World Title and had long career like Flair as Champion. All this set in place because of Jim Ross and Mr. Wrestling 2 giving back to the sport that made him famous. As a side note this speaks volumes about Flair, many times he was to hand off the belt to the next big thing but it seemed always the next big thing got hurt, died or became too demanding for the role and Flair was the only go to guy at that time that could draw a crowd as Champion like him or not. Flair was always there to pick up the belt and keep it viable until the next big thing came along and finally worked.

There is an amazing important part to this angle. As the story goes Two and Magnum had real trouble when Magnum teamed with a native of Downers Grove, Illinois. Guy named Lanny Poffo. The son of Angelo Poffo. The brother of a then Memphis supervillain named Macho Man Randy Savage.B.W.

The whole story arc with Wrestling II as Magnum TA's mentor/tag partner, their winning the tag titles, Wrestling II becoming NA Champ and turning on TA, then TA getting the rub by thrashing his former teacher and winning the belt is just brilliant. One of the best angles in wrestling and a textbook example of using an older talent to build a new star.

First I have to say that the AWA is my favorite area of all time.I'm talking about the TV SHOW....not the territory itself. The AWA TV show was good but the Mid South show had more angles, more action, and more star vs star matches than the AWA did. Again, I am NOT talking about the territory as a whole..just the TV show.

I remember watching this on "Channel 3 KTBS (ABC) SHREVEPORT LA" When it was shown. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY was stunned 😳 the "MR WRESTLING II" Backstabbed "MAGNUM T.A" over being passed over. But "T.A" wasn't the only one that "MR WRESTLING II" (formerly a good guy) "BACKSTABBED", nor was the "JUNKYARD DOG" either. But he had the (his finishing) "KNEE LIFT" that everyone knew to beware of. While "MAGNUM T.A" who stayed a good guy chose a different finishing move "BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX", and he had great success with it as well. "MR WRESTLING II" after "T.A" also trained another who would extremely DANGEROUS, That man would be known as: "HERCULES HERNANDEZ". Who's finishing move was the "COBRA CLUTCH". Also very effective.

Magnum TA his car accident did change wrestling , like he wouldve took the belt from flair or think instead of Barry joining the horsemen Magnum joins and betrays Dusty now that wouldve shocked the crowd. And then he goes back but like life then his journey back to the light and he becomes the hero again and goes next level and probably heads to NY , But when he was hurt and back then you could say anyone was brothers so why not big Scott Hall back then i think Hall was trying to look like Magnum.

I think Mid Atlantic did a better job with the way they presented Magnum TA as a babyface than Mid South did. Mid South had him yelling and screaming, and that's just not his style. He's much better as a smooth talker, when he went to NWA, he sounded classier and not decent and not temperamental---more like Magnum PI (Tom Selleck)

Watts tried to work a Bible lesson into a lot of the angles he'd book. He was really laying it on heavy with this one: sacrifice, turning the other cheek, etc. It wasn't just face vs. heel, it was Good vs. Evil. Kind of a unique approach to commentary, but I think it worked well, and there were certainly a lot of fans in that part of the country who came from the same deeply Christian place that Watts was coming from.
