Thanks so much for the shoutout, Ellie! :) I'm so glad we get to connect here, and so looking forward to our buddy read !! I think you'll really like Pet Sematary, it (imo) compensates for any pacing problems in Salem's Lot and is just fantastic all the way through! Can't wait to hear what you think of it :)

Hello, I'm glad we got to connect here as well 😊 Getting to know new people is one of my favorite things about booktube. I'm glad to hear that the pacing is improved in Pet Sematary! Hopefully I'll love it as much as everyone else seems to 🤞

Some great answers Ellie, I'd definitely have some of the same answers as you. I'm very much looking forward to Paul Tremblay's new book. I'm really looking forward to our buddy reads, I had so much fun when we read Krampus and Hyperion and it will be great to read more books with you.

I love Becky Chambers, and I agree, I think Record of a Spaceborn Few is overlooked a lot. I think The Galaxy and the Ground Beneath is my favorite, but Spaceborn Few is easily 2nd favorite in that series. Lovely video as always!

Yes! I'm so pleased you agree. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews about Spaceborn Few (compared to the others) but I really enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel. Let me know if you ever want to do a buddy read 😊

Brom has such a unique style! Wouldn't recommend Child Theif, but Krampus was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to reading Slewfoot next! 🧙‍♀️

Hi Ellie. Great video as always. Have read all Becky Chambers work and love it. Not read any of the duncton books but have read William Horwoods Hyddenworld quartet of novels which were fantastic. Right up your street. Am reading Samantha Shannons Bone Season books which am enjoying immensely. Read The Priory of the Orange Tree last year. I love how reading a book can open up whole new worlds from an author that wasn't on the radar before. Best Regards Chris

Hello, I hope you are well 😊 I haven't heard of the Hiddenworld quartet, I will have to look them up! Thanks for the recommendation. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Bone Season. I've actually had Priory of the Orange Tree on my radar for a while but have been intimidated by how chunky it is 🙈 I agree, I think that's why I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi so much. I don't get the same sense of wonder and escapism with contemporary books. Thanks so much for supporting my channel, it means a lot.

Excellent responses to the tag! I love Dan Simmons' horror books, but will definitely be on the lookout for Hyperion based on your recommendation. I still need to read Paul Tremblay. How High We Go In The Dark sounds like a difficult but fascinating read. Hope you have a great second half of the year!

Thank you 😊 I hope you enjoy Hyperion if you do pick it up. I enjoyed "Head Full of Ghosts" by Paul Tremblay and plan to read "Cabin At The End of the World" next. I really hope I continue to enjoy his books. "How High We Go In The Dark" certainly was a tough read! I appreciate how the author took a risk and know lots of other people really rate that book. You definitely have to be in the right headspace though!

I have to confess that the only Becky Chambers book I've read didn't do much for me at all, but I love Wylder's Hall. Salem's Lot is my favourite Stephen King book, although I confess I haven't read all that many of his... for reasons that are about to become plain. I actually love the novella length, and tend to avoid epic fantasy, and very long books. It may be an age thing. I can read ten good novellas to any one of Brandon Sanderson's, and I only have so much reading time left. 🙂 Another novella I highly recommend, if you want to read something by an author who really gets grief, is Sorrowmouth by Simon Avery.

Hello 😊 I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Becky Chambers. She writes quite "cosy" sci-fi which I know isn't for everyone. I am looking forward to reading more King. I think my main issue with Salem's Lot was the pacing. Also, I knew it was a vampire story so any element of surprise was lost. Thank you for the novella recommendation! I think short books can really pack a punch when they are done well.

@@bibbidibobbidibooks In a way, I think Becky Chambers hit my partner, and I much the same way as J.K. Rowling, in that we've been reading SF/Fantasy since the 1960s. Rowling got hugely lucky in that she got picked up by the media, and introduced to thousands of people who hadn't been fantasy readers before. To them, Harry Potter was new, and exciting. To us old folks there wasn't an original idea in the books, and it read like mish-mash of ideas that were done better by much better writers decades before. In Chamber's case, it was the fact thar people all over BookTube were raving about her wonderful characterisation, where we just saw stock character types that we'd seen over, and over before. It's not that either of them are bad writers, albeit Rowling has since revealed herself to be problematical in her beliefs, but they just don't quite match up to the hype. There are better books out there. Give Louise Carey's Inscape trilogy a look. Though, it would be unfair of me not to mention that Carey's distopian series is anything but cosy.
