My top tip for calls is to send a message 5 or so mins before asking "Will you be free in about 5 mins for a catch up call?" It lessens the panic the call receiver might get at suddenly being called 👌

i feel like wanting local community and local friends is 70% of the reason why people go to church and get involved in religion. must be nice!! i'm an atheist so that's off the plate
@helenm1085
@helenm1085 Ай бұрын
I've been thinking about how useful church would be for that sort of thing, and how it's missing from my life. I've made a big effort recently to get some local stuff into my calendar! I joined in with my local gardening group that is full of plant-mad retirees (I'm in my 20s so that's quite an interesting age gap), and in the summer we were having a barbecue in the park where we invited friends who lived nearby... But winter has put a stop to that 🌧️🌧️🌧️

Agree. I watched a documentary about communities who live long healthy lives. Religion was a part of many of the communities lives. I decided that the secrets to a long and healthy life are: 1.Movement- no necessarily exercise, could be walking to shops, gardening etc. 2.Diet - Cooking your own meals from local produce. No ultra processed foods. Eating with family could be added in this too. 3.Community - Meeting people, having hobbies, neighbours, family. 4.Focus - Having something to do, goals and hobbies. Like gardening, reading, cooking meals, volunteering. Something to get up for! Living in a warmer climate seems to be helpful too! I suppose if it's warm it's easier to get out and move and meet people.

Ugh this. The ONLY active community group in my area not associated with the schools is the church. As someone who is not religious at all, it's a no go for me.

I'm not sure if other countries have this but if you're in the US and want to/can volunteer outdoors, there are local watershed groups in every state always looking for volunteers, usually having community planting events, stream clean up events, fundraising events, etc. They're a good source of community that doesn't involve religion.

@@catherinepattersonmcelroy8336 this is the way to go in Australia too. Lots of volunteering opportunities in land/community care. Made a lot of community connections through Food not Bombs personally. Facebook is also a great resource for finding community groups too. And you can always start one.

My only goal was to get into hiking shape for my Scotland trip. Injuries and illness prevented that goal from being reached, but still was able to power through and enjoyed my trip. The new goal is to get into hiking shape for a trip to Oregon at the end of the year. As for DNFing books: yeah, sometimes you just run across several books in a row that aren't really good. I used to feel bad about not finishing, but now.....

It took me about 3 or 4 years of regular therapy to hit that point. Just because it takes you longer doesn't mean that you won't get there! That said it's also fine if you keep finding it useful for your whole life.

Zoe Sugg has an amazing video called A Conversation with my Therapist which I often go back to because it’s so good and completely de-stigmatises therapy. Also I’m fairly sure she’s been seeing her therapist for most of her adult life, how long you see a therapist for really isn’t a biggie :)

Friendships are so hard! I started having fortnightly family dinners with a friend her kids, my kids etc. it's a mess, ruins sleep routines but is so worth it. Something about that regular check in has built some solid foundations for our friendship. Conversely, a close friend moved away and it is just not going as well, we check in when we can but heah, not the same.

This may be overstepping so feel free to completely ignore this: I’d really suggest trying to see a specialist about your fertility sooner rather than later! You said in a comment that you’ve now been diagnosed with pcos but haven’t been offered any real help for it which sucks (but isn’t surprising when it comes to women’s health). It’s usually recommended that someone with pcos gets medical help as soon as they start TTC, but it’s even more important for you since it’s a bit time sensitive. I’m pretty sure you can see a fertility specialist through the NHS because of these factors, regardless of how long you’ve been TTC. Really sorry if this is inappropriate - like I said, take it or leave it. I just know a lot of people who haven’t had this information (and it sounds like you haven’t been given the best information either) so I thought I’d bring it up. Wishing you and Dan the best of luck ❤
@lolosrainydays
@lolosrainydays Ай бұрын
I think they did this when trying the first time and were waiting to see a specialist when they got pregnant.
@leggyegg2890
@leggyegg2890 Ай бұрын
@@lolosrainydays yeah I know they were waiting at the time, but didn’t get the referral until they’d been trying for a very long time. + I’m not sure if it’s being looked into this time since they’ve already had a baby. Not my business whatsoever, just wanted to give the info and they can do with it what they please :)
@serianc9036
@serianc9036 Ай бұрын
Definitely worth investigating but it is often very hard to get fertility support on the NHS if you have a child. So that may be the issue rather than time spent TTC.

"The more books you read, the more you're not gonna like !" I relate so hard, I've also upped the number of books I read and.... yeah. But! I have also "refined" my taste, and dipping my toe into sci-fi again (I left it with such a sexist book that i loved when i was young) thanks to Ursula Leguin & Becky Chambers has helped.

(Feel free to delete if this is too personal.) For the getting pregnant goal: have you been able to get diagnosed and treated for PCOS? With polycystic ovaries and irregular periods, you fit the diagnostic criteria (called Rotterdam criteria). I just got diagnosed with PCOS in May and started ovasitol and metformin to try to regulate my cycles/hormones and may have to do ovulation induction once we’re officially TTC. Natalie Crawford has a lot of info about PCOS on her channel and podcast called As a Woman!

@@morehannahI have PCOS as well! We recently conceived via IVF because of male factor infertility, but before we knew what was going on my gynecologist said it was most likely that the PCOS meant I wasnt ovulating regularly. My gynecologist said it would be very straightforward to correct by taking clomid to induce ovulation. We didnt go that route because, while a blood test did confirm I wasnt ovulating regularly, our male factor issues meant we wouldn't get pregnant even if I was
@georgia2370
@georgia2370 Ай бұрын
By the way, I had a regular 33 day cycle. But blood tests to confirm my progesterone levels at different times in my cycle confirmed that I wasn't actually ovulating every cycle. Turns out you can have what looks exactly like a period without having ovulated. It is "anovulatory bleeding". While you most likely would get pregnant eventually, if you're not ovulating every cycle it cuts down your chances and can make it take a lot longer

I’m in the UK and also talked to my GP about clomid so something you defo have access to via the NHS

I’ve had clomid on the NHS for my PCOS and got pregnant after just 2 cycles. It was a total game changer for us and I’ll defo being going back for another dose when we’re ready for baby number 2. I had to have a few tests before I could have it and my biggest piece of advice would be to take someone with you if you need a hysterosalpingogram because that sh1t is painful.

I have PCOS and our kids are 2 months apart. I needed letrozole to conceive the first time which is an ovulation induction medication also known as femara. Metformin and inositol is also super beneficial. Also look into MIRA fertility. As my cycles are irregular, it helps me pin point my fertile window really well.

Do you have any tips on discerning whether a feeling of not needing to set any "goals" for romantic relationships is a sign of complacency and/or lack of importance you give to that relationship versus feeling truly content and satisfied in the relationship at least for the time being as it currently stands? (My question is not about your relationship at all, I was more thinking about myself and was curious if you had any tips o suggestions)
