Thank you for sharing. What a wonderful phrase, "I want to be happy in the space I'm in"! I have such a mess I can't even see my workspace. I need someone to be accountable to. Love ya!

My mosaic space is our kitchen nook. It's between my husbands office (our exit to the garage) and visible from the kitchen. It is also home to a refrigerator and a beaitiful, large wine cabinet. Try as I might, I can't keep it tidy. Self-sabatage? Quite possibly. I've pegged myself as a defeated perfectionist in the past. I have organized and reorganized multiple times. Too much in too small a space. All I can tell you is start in one corner. Don't look at the whole picture, just one section. Sometimes it's helpful to take everything out and purge as you put back in or leave out certain items to group with other items elsewhere. Just doing a section at a time gives a feeling of accomplishment and excitement for the next section. You can do it!

Hi Karen-Lyn! You hit the nail on the head....start in one section! That's exactly what I've done. It certainly removes the overwhelm of such an endeavor. And removing everything from the space and then only bringing in what I want to keep is also a GREAT idea! Your space sounds quaint....which I know isn't reality if you've got tesserae, substrates, tools, adhesives, and grout to store -- plus a work table. I see that this topic is something which resonates with many of us so you can expect to see more as I get things back under control in my studio. I hope folks keep sharing what works for them -- and thank you for sharing your ideas too! I'm loving this! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!✨

Thanks for sharing, Julie! You are totally not alone. I have struggled with trying to figure out a workspace, ever since I started stained glass, which morphed into mosaics and also now fused glass. I have supplies/tools in my garage, and in 2 bedrooms....but then I like doing little piddly stuff in my living room while watching tv...so the folding table comes out and gets filled up with a current project. Then there is no room to work because of trying to have supplies available, to where my creativity keeps coming but I don't work on things because I can't focus or make room to allow it to happen...SIGH. All the best to you and your commitment -- I will be watching for the big reveal! 💜💜💜

Wow! Your goal is now my goal! My mom passed away a couple of years ago. I hauled home so much from her house. Lots of pictures etc that I will keep, but, also stuff I couldn’t donate, and things I couldn’t throw away. I couldn’t deal with them at the time. I told myself I would deal with it when things didn’t feel so “raw”. You’ve given me that push, that time is now! Like you said you can’t work in a space that is such a mess and cluttered. I have no room, I can barely move in my studio. It’s hard for me to actually call it my studio. It used to be one of my grown kids bedrooms. I want it to be my oasis again…my place that makes me happy to be there…where I’m inspired just glancing in the door 😊. Thank you Julie, I needed this swift kick in the butt! 😂

Hi there! Ohhh, I can relate. I did the same when my Dad passed away. I took whatever was being given away, and told myself I'd go through it later, because in that moment I just wasn't ready. Now's the time! Take it slow so it doesn't get overwhelming. You'll get there. We got this!🙌 Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

Hi, Julie. I live in a 939 sq ft house with my husband and two teenage sons. No basement, no attic. In Minnesota, where the winters are cold and the mosquitos are rampant in the summer. I work from home, so our tiny living room has our couch, two chairs, TV, my work desk/chair and my craft card table, which I use for mosaics, stained glass, beads, and scrapbooking. In 2020, we were going to tear down our garage and rebuild, but then COVID and a job change hit. Currently, everything is so expensive, so we are biding our time. I craft out of bins and rent a storage space for our extras. Just this morning, I wanted to give up, break down, and cry out of frustration with the lack of space as I have so many projects to work on. I go where I can to get things done that can't be done at home. I would love my own dedicated space where there is a place for everything and everything in its place. I totally get the frustration of needing to be organized. I want to kick my family out and have a retreat in my house for that very reason!! LOL. We all have things we are going through. I want to create so much that I could burst, and this space issue practically destroys me every day. Yet...I keep creating and pursuing my passion. ❤

Hi Cindy! Wow, thank you for sharing your creative space challenges. I can feel your words and frustrate....and yet, like you said, you keep creating and pursing your passion. THAT is the key to not only filling your creative bucket, but also not allowing your current situation to take over. Hang in there and know that you aren't alone. We got this and you can expect more on the topic of creative 'space' cleaning/organizing in future videos. I'm on a mission! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!💗

Love the idea of a retreat and running it like an "actual" event you'd attend. My bestie and I (also met in college back in the 80s) talk about our goals, both personal and business, all the time. We are each other's "accountabilibuddy." 🤣 One a quarter we meet to do a presentation (like full-on PowerPoint/Keynote presentation) of what we're working on, things we need help with, general support, etc. This is online as I'm in Seattle and she's in central Oregon... and we do video chats outside of this, but this is set aside for discussing goals. Also, we visit each other twice a year and text most days. It helps to have that feedback. We get into super in-depth conversations about goals and aspirations... but most importantly we rev up each other's creativity. On another note, I'm going to be speaking at the massive Adobe MAX conference in Miami in October and have never been to Miami. Is there a good list or area of mosaics I should see? Other artsy stuff? Thanks for the inspiration, Julie... and I know you'll get the studio together!
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 9 сағат бұрын
Hi Erica! Oh wow! I'm sooo impressed! A presentation? WOW!🔥 I'm loving this idea of having an accountability partner. Even though it's you doing the work for yourself, but just knowing you aren't alone - and in a pinch - there's someone there pushing you back up if you need it is a mental game changer. Sounds like you and your bestie have a great bond too! As for mosaics in Miami, this is something I've been thinking about putting together for quite some time. I know the Adobe conference will be held on Miami Beach so you'll have ALOT of art and architecture to take in. A couple stops just off the top of my head are the Versace mansion, floor mosaics at Faena Hotel and checkout the pool bar as well, and the Beatles Mandala at the Miami Beach Bandshell Park. I'll keep thinking on it and will let you know if I come up with more spots! Keep creating and planning!✨

@@JulieWeilbacher Thanks for this list... I'm going to go research all of these! I am looking forward to all the art deco type of architecture there. Folks have asked me what I'm excited to see there outside of the conference. I tell them, "Architecture, mosaics, ride the Brightline train, eat a Cuban sandwich." They are confused when I don't mention beaches and sunshine. I live in Seattle... I don't like the sunshine lol! On another note, I entered one of my favorite pieces I've done into our local PRIDE art show and got in! The show was then moved to a gallery for a couple of days all at the beginning of June. I was so stoked that something I made got in! Thanks for all you do to inspire!

Loved this insight into your life beyond the studio. Ginger sounds like a wonderful friend. I wish I lived closer to Miami, I'd volunteer to be your studio cleanup project assistant (I love organizing-- sounds fun to me). My big hairy goal is to change careers, but I don't know what I want to do instead. (I'd love to hear your career change story-- how you decided to start your own business and how it went in the beginning.) The thing I'm procrastinating on is networking to meet people in other industries who love their jobs. Building a network has been on my To Do list for like five years...

Hi - I think your issue of needing, to clean your studio, is a common one especially amongst mosaic artists - perhaps approach the situation where your followers could benefit too … start together in steps … you might even have some new followers as this approach has people returning for the next step. Focus on helping your viewers as well, as yourself as many of us have the same issue & may be worse than yours! Just my 2 cents! 😊
