I have three of these units. I have had 1 for 2 summers and this upcoming summer will be its third season. I have 2 more that are going to be going into their second summer. I just installed all three today in the Northeast. After I bought my first one three years ago, taking it out was more difficult than it should be. Take it from me everyone, you absolutely do NOT need to screw or fasten these into your windows. You do not need to install the anti-tip arms. You do not need to screw the support bracket into the window. You do not need to install the the small bracket that connects the main support bracket to the AC. All of these are redundant steps to provide redundant safety I suppose? If you level your main support bracket correctly, appropriately cut and install the pads with weather stripping in your holes and shut the window in between, the unit will absolutely stay there and not move. Only start screwing things in if you want to PERMANENTLY install your Midea unit and will not be removing it at the end of summer. Again, I have 3 of these and move them in out of windows every year using nothing but the Main Support Bracket, the AC unit and the 2 Pads with 2 black weather strips.

Husband got this installed in about an hour without too much trouble, but I can see it being REALLY difficult for someone who isn't mechanically inclined. Unit is whisper quiet though and cools my room very well, so I'm happy thus far!

August 7th, 2020. Just installed 12000btu unit and must say that putting it together was a breath, all holes and brackets aligned perfectly, quite frankly I was a bit surprised. I turned it on and it started cooling the air, in my semi-basement, nicely. So far, the only problem, it produces some random noises caused by the cooling propeller (I'm guessing) I'll call tomorrow to costumers service and I'm sure it will be taking care of. Otherwise, so far it works as advertised. Thanks

After a full season of A/C use- This is absolutely the greatest appliance I have ever bought. It performed outstandingly and my electric bill has been halved over previous summers!! Absolutely outstanding!!!

I installed one of these today. Super happy with the unit. Very quiet and cools quickly. As others noted, this instruction video is good as a general guide but does not apply to 2024 models, nor do the enclosed instructions. Some degree of ingenuity is needed. I prefer the redundant safety features. Quells my fear of the unit falling out the window.

I was able to install this in a window that doesn't open top to bottom but instead side to side with some ingenuity (I know it's not designed for it, but I made it work). System is great and super quiet.

This video is outdated. Do yourself a favor and read the official paper instructions or video by "The Fixer". Midea changed anti-tip and open window brackets, they look differently now. Also the instructions call for soft foam under and around the hard foam blocks.

I got the 12,000 BTU U-Shaped AC & it works GREAT! It runs so quiet that if you're not right next to the AC, you have to look to verify it's even on! Only issue is the Smart setup! The instructions are not correct & using bar code scanning returns, "illegal code". I'll wait a bit for them to update their new products & in the mean time the included remote works just fine!

*WARNING* If you purchased your unit recently, there is a 2021 version of this video with the current pieces - you are not missing anything, there is no different side to the anti-tip arms, there is no off-center guide point on the bracket.

This was the most frustrating event ever.

Seems to be a great air condition that need a redesigned window bracket for easier installation, since there is a lot of complaints about installation. Being able to run a quiet air condition is top priority for a lot of people so this design is very appealing.

The screws were all the same size. Also, my window is 43” long. I wish it came with longer window brackets. Lord help me but now I have to attach wooden blocks to make up the difference. I pray it holds.

Pro-tip: Find a handyman with this installation. Making sure brackets sit flush against outside wall with an overhang is difficult. The foam insulation will be difficult and require multiple layers on vertical axis to cover gaps. Watch this video first, read the manual, then watch this video again. Give yourself two hours for the work. It's worth it once the unit is in.

Hi, I'm considering purchase of the 8000 BTU version of this unit. My wooden window sash it 1.5 inches wide. Will this fit within the space that it needs to drop down into, in the AC? Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

The Soleus Air over the sill AC unit is a way better design. U shaped but flipped so it hangs down over the window sill. More window visibility, more support, better seal.

At the 3:10 mark and again at the 4:14 mark, the instructions call for you to attach the extension arms for the first time. It would be helpful to those of us who are not professional a/c installers to have consistent, and straightforward instructions. I bet this would be appreciated by many customers.

Really wish there was an extender kit for windows wider than 36 inches. I have a 40 inch window and would buy this unit in a heartbeat if longer side arms were offered.

If I had known how complicated the installation was, I would not have gotten the unit. I assumed that because the window shuts into it, it would be a simpler installation. This is about as complicated as a window installation can get. I might as well have installed my own wall unit or ductless mini split.

Do you have a video for winterizing the unit? A suggestion for a cover for the exterior part?

Just purchased the 8k got it installed just fine and even had no issues with the app. I replaced a old loud 5k btu air conditioner that worked great just loud so purchased this 8k for a 270sq bedroom and even on 60 it stays close to 70 in here and the air coming out is not as cold as my older 5k unit. is that just how these inverter units are or do i need to step up to a 10 or 12k btu says it does 350sq ft but sure doesn't cool as good as my 5k

My problem is my windows in my rental unit are old 100 year old windows with out storm window lip that sits higher than base window sill and with a slant center sill. I can’t find any instructions for installing in these older still windows.

The lift rail of my vinyl window forces me to bring the unit too far forward for the anti-tip bars to insert into the track. In the end, the window AC no matter what brand, is the bane of my existence.

Just installed this an hour ago..... This video and instructions show the anti tip brackets differently. The unit doesn't allow the left side (when looking at it) to flip the direction the book says to. The unit also doesn't have a flat side , both sides are angled and they do not change angles when flipped. I said screw it and installed it the best I could. The anti tip isn't inside the track because window is like half an inch to awkward so I installed them on inside hanging on so it's def not going to tip outside now... If a kid hung from it inside it may break it though. The insulation was the most infuriating experience ever! Then I have my concerns on rain that hits the windows (sideways rain as I call it), I wonder if water is going to get in the house .... The directional vents are pretty much not existent, maybe adjust airflow like 30 degrees, always goes down middle too. The remote sadly isnt a temp sensor too. It does sick out about 5 more inches than you are used to. I setup to where I can open window and have it sealed with insulation. It's very quiet. High speed could be stronger (8k unit) ... Def not blowing me away with air strength vs last unit. I bought it for energy saving cost mainly and old one I didn't feel like tearing it down to clean it (years old and can only clean so much without teardown). Time will tell on energy savings (fall now soooo). Also, I used static cling tint on window to stop light intrusion since in bedroom and with gy shift. I have not used what features yet.

There is an error at 4:21 where they say "fasten the extension arms" (to attach to the side of the window frame). You want the "1/2 inch Type A" screws for this. You're welcome. :-)

Yeah, in the middle of installing... there are a few steps that don’t make sense w my window. The most frustrating thing is that the insulation that I have to cut isn’t tall enough to fill the void between the window and the bottom of the frame. I’ll have to figure that out. Customer service is closed on the weekends (when I have time to install).

I have one of your more inexpensive model-a black 6,000 BTU with a 1990s remote-and the remote only works in the room, the buttons are named something different, and it isn’t very powerful compared to the LG 6,000 BTU it replaced. I bought it at Walmart the other day and I really messed up. My buddy grabbed a 8,000BTU Hisense for $200 (same price as my 6K from you), it has all the bells and whistles and is a beast! Is your U model worth me sacrificing a lot to buy? Is it really that special or is it like this 6,000BTU hurly-durly deluxe I hate that I’m stuck with?

STEP #1 - Check to see the unit works. I was an idiot and installed a defective unit that took a month to deliver and there is no replacement. Went through the hottest part of summer waiting for junk.

At 4:55 it shows the side brackets being attached to the side of the unit and into the track. Just bought a Midea last week and apparently they have changed the design of these brackets as now they still attach to the side of the ac but the other end of the bracket now attaches to the outside of the track instead of the inside.

I cannot use this In the window I had intended. The wall outsides protrudes too far and at the largest pin opening the feet just allow it to pitch correctly. Moved to another window. Issue number 1 unit will not center. Small issue but one nonetheless. Second there are bug holes now under the unit. So no matter what I will have to deal the bottom. Issue 3 the anti tilt isnt even close to the sash. Issue 4 the open window brackets do not reach the intended hole. A question. Does the bracket go on the inside of the lip ? -This video and instructions kinds of shows the bracket stays on the inside of where the window closes.

My husband was able to install this unit quite easily in 20 minutes. Thank you for the video. My question is does the unit have to sit for 24 hours before you start it up?

If the bracket had 2 of the longer extendable arms, it would fit wider windows. I have a 51 inch window. I would buy if there is a way to do it .

The hardware that came with my unit is different than shown in the video. The part of the main bracket that sits on the window sill is a slightly different shape and are covered in foam; the anti-tip bars only have narrow ends; and the open window brackets are a different shape entirely. It's hard to tell from the video exactly where the main bracket sits on the window sill. The way the video switches between wooden windows and vinyl windows is also confusing. The icon is too easy to miss when you're focused on the video.

I just got my 10k unit installed. Installation video did help although the black plastic that holds the weight on the end of the bracket fell off. I am pleased with the 10k btu power and noise level is really low. Only thing is... I can't complete my midea app on android. It stops at 61% and does not continue. I am using s9+

This installation was so bad in the manual I almost sent it back just based off that I had to look at two installation videos and anti tilt is still not in correct spot customer service wasn’t helpful at all it was so stressful I’m happy I stuck with it though it’s so quite and I do like it the app was giving me issues too

There is no instructions to seal the bottom of the AC against the window! Please advise me if the included foam can be used for this. It is important to seal the bottom, even though you may not see it.

Do I absolutely need to drill and screw holes to secure the bracket if my window has a lip?

it is quite clear, however they show no pictures of th exterior and how unsightly the too long bracket sticks out from the 8000 and 12000 Btu units., They can be cut down but it is not clear to do it before installation and it is a pain to de install to cut off excess, drill new holes and mount new screws. Also there is no way to direct the water draining and it will soak anything below, I will try to drill and put a drain hose on, but i can't have it soaking the doorway below.

*** UPDATE**** I wrote a comment (see below) about a week ago. I have to update it. This by far the quietest AC i've ever heard in my life. It's shockingly quiet and the auto-fan feature ramps the fan to different speeds smoothly. It's one of those things you dont realize you want until you have it. Who knew I'd be so amazed by how quiet an AC could be. Never ever was a concern of mine before - AC noise was AC noise - I could care less but now I just cant get over it. When the compressor turns on, you hardly notice. It basically no louder than the fan even when the compressor is running. There are no abrupt moments with sound when the compressor turns on or off. I can't get over the difference a variable speed inverter compressor makes. I would highly recommend for light sleepers, nurseries etc. One may complain it's not loud enough. For those who like the white noise of a normal AC unit will NOT like this AC (A testament to how quiet it is even with just the fan running). The unit does not make a clicking sound anymore (maybe it needed some break-in)? Also, after reviewing the air gaps/lack of sealing, it's actually not so bad when put side by side to a conventional window unit. In fact I think this unit seals better (but dont expect an air tight seal). As far as cooling performance, I did not notice any difference between this unit and a conventional one. The air is cold and performs as expected in both cooling a hot room and also detecting the temperature accurately to maintain it. The jury is out on the longevity/durability but nothing about the unit feels subpar for it's price. ****Original***** A few problems with mine. 1) the bottom of the AC is not sealed. The bracket the AC sits on does not seal to the bottom of the window. You can see daylight under the AC where the AC sits on the bracket Channels as well as the bracket itself has some gaps in it in the same area. There is no way to seal this without lots of tiny foam pieces shoved into all of these little places. OK for a permanent install but def a pain for seasonal use/install. 2) My unit makes a faint fast paced clicking noise when turned on. It's coming from the outside part of the unit. As if the fan outside is spinning and hitting the case or a component OR if there is something wrong with the balance of the fan blades 3) The unit is a bit taller (but narrower) than a traditional one. This means window blinds do not go down as far. A problem for bedrooms or spaces you want to temper the light in. Overall not as good as I had hoped. Pain in the rear to install seasonally compared to a traditional window unit, cannot seal it as well as a traditional window unit, more expensive than a traditional unit but quieter and supposed to use less electricity and it's a "connected/Smart" device. After installing and using, I would say the cons barely outweigh the pros

I have an older wooden window with a double pane. The outside glass pane has a 1/4 to 1/3 inch metal lip at the bottom. I usually bring this down on top of a traditional AC unit along with my wooden pane. 1.) What is the side of the "U" opening for a window pane to fit into (front to back) 2.) Should I bring down my second pane? I usually tape up the outside of my AC units to prevent water from hitting the sill.

Can you tell how much space is needed when the window is open, to fit this unit. I have cheap vinyl windows that open maybe 13" to 14". Is that enough room for this AC?

I would like to put this in my window but my window is 47 inches long and it says on some sites only double hung windows. I hope there is a way to put it in a single hung window as some sites say you can but I want to make sure. Not everyone has double hung windows so please let me know. Hi , I just installed my midea air conditioner inverter 8000btu and I noticed that initially it wasn't cooling enough . I mean the cool air wasn't cool enough. Then i noticed that there was not drain hole on the unit. Is it like that ? I think all air-conditioning units needs drainage system .please help me out .thanks

Hello! I received this unit earlier than expected from the campaign! Is there any other way to install it other than the included bracket? Upon my installation attempt today I discovered that the outdoor Wall is covered in soft vinyl siding, and I'm not sure what to do. The feet bend the vinyl and will damage it if used for long. Boxed it right up in the meantime. Appreciate the any advice! Thank you 😊

I wonder if Midea (or anyone else) has built a window kit for those of us who intend to install this AC unit temporarily. Once in awhile (here in the southeast) we'll lose power for an extended period of time due to hurricanes or other extended power outages. In those cases, I'd like to install the Midea TEMPORARILY. That means I really don't want to be drilling into my windows and putting permanent screws in, etc. Anything "temporary" offered? . . . . . . . Would something like this work?
