The Midland ER310 AM FM NOAA Weather Alert portable emergency radio has many features that most will find useful in a desperate situation.
In this review I will showcase all of it's features and give you a demonstration on how well this product performs.

Features I like about this radio:
FM reception is above average.
NOAA weather alert mode.
Bright, 130 Lumen flashlight with Low/High/SOS modes.
2,600mAh 18650 battery.
Optional AA battery operation.
Large LCD display.
Sturdy construction.
Easy to use dynamo.
Efficient Solar panel.
AM band reaches distance stations.
Ultrasonic Dog whistle feature.
Headphone audio is decent.
12/24 hour clock.
Ability to turn back light off.
Features that could be added or improved on:
A siren feature that could be manually activated.
Improve AM quality, has a buzzing sound that is annoying.
FM antenna needs to be made easier to extend and retract.
Overall, I recommend this radio. It is a bit on the high side money wise, with plenty of competition. I feel this radio can help a family out in an emergency with it's ultra powerful light, decent alert system and the ability to use AA batteries. It is well made, and see it lasting for many years.

I purchased this emergency weather radio approximately 6 or more years ago at a radio shack that was going out of business. I paid $10.00 for it. It's great😊 Using it tonight with the storm warnings in Northwest Indiana.

This is a good emergency radio to have for the money. The Midland er310 emergency radio, comes with a 2600 milliamp hour battery that's lithium ion and rechargeable. It also has a backup battery system. Double A batteries not included. It has a solar panel and a hand crank, as well as a way to recharge the rechargeable battery. It also has a flashlight with 3 different settings and a dog whistle! Not many radios have that feature!

I have used the crank on this & it works as well as any. It also has the solar, batteries, AND USB charging options; as well as a headphone jack, which is rare & useful if you’re going to be around other people or need to keep quiet. The only thing I’ve noticed is the weather alert occasionally won’t shut off by pressing any button (nor will the other buttons work while it’s on, including the volume) so I’ve had to temoorwr remove the lithium battery to get it to stop.

Today I received my Midland ER300 (European version where the WX alert button is renamed Menu ) and it has a regular 18650 battery without the wired connector. My ER300 has a 18650, 2200mAH 3.7V battery. On many reviews and websites, the ER300 mostly has a lesser, 2000mAH 3.7. So, i was happy surprised, that my version has a little "better" 18650. Does anybody know, if I can replace the 18650 with a 2500/2600mAH battery without problems with accuracy of the battery level on the screen ?

With the ER310 is there a way to change the AM band frequency steps from 10 kHz to 9 kHz? In Australia the AM band is tuned in 9 kHz increments.
@scratchpad7954
@scratchpad7954 Ай бұрын
Not that I'm aware of. As far as I know, Midland makes these radios for use in the market where they are most popular, and because they are headquartered in North America, I think these radios are stuck with 10 kHz spacing on AM. However, Australia has about a dozen AM frequencies that are mutually receivable: 540, 630, 720, 810, 900, 990, 1080, 1170, 1260, 1350, 1440, 1530, and 1620.

Do you know any emergency radio like this that has a large internal battery? Seems like they all have 18650 at best while you can buy a10k+ mha power bank for about $15. Seems like an emergency radio would be much much more useful with the larger power bank.
@todderbert
@todderbert 3 жыл бұрын
The largest you can get are the ones where they have two removable 18650s and you add your own 3550 Panasonic G cells to get at least 7,000mAh. If you just need an AM FM radio for off the grid listening, the Sony ICF-19 with its three D cell batteries will run four hundred plus hours.
@Cheetorblz
@Cheetorblz 3 жыл бұрын
@@todderbertAhhh. That seems pretty good. Vi am not familiar which ones you can do that with? was thinking of the ability to easily charge cell phones. Of course you would probably have to do a lot of cranking to do this over several days as those solar cells likely can't keep up to that sort of demand. I guess in the end maybe a dedicated power bank is the best choice. Seems like this is an opportunity though for some company to combine the 2. Thanks for your response.

Assuming y'all are saying mmr-88 'blows it out of water' because of AM reception only; because the mmr-88 doesn't have dry cell options and you can't listen to the radio when in ALERT mode! Both are deal breakers for an 'emergency' radio; I will be getting a second radio for DX'n (still reading/listening to todderbert on that!) so as long as I can get local stations in an emergency that is all I would need; Agree with Angel--great work!

These weather radios use some ambiguous terminology. I take it that a weather alert is not the same as a S.A.M.E. weather alert. Is that right? I am interested in a radio that tells me the exact nature of the weather event (tornado, hurricane, etc.). This radio won't do that will it?

Second generation has the stand alone 18650 lithium battery-which charges via hand crank, USB, or solar. I’ve used all but solar & they work as well as any. It also uses six AA batteries-which is why I bought this particular model, since I tend to keep AAA & AA batteries around, & they can be easily found or traded for in a real ongoing emergency or disaster. It’s also oddly rare to find top-rated lightweight NOAA radios w/ this many charging options & a headphone jack.
