I'm so excited for Tovolar, Ulrich of the Krallenhorde was my first commander deck and it is one of my favorite decks even if it wasn't the most consistent. Now it sounds like my werewolf deck will be actually super good!

Werewolves are kind of like dragons. You play them for the funsies because one makes you public enemy #1 and the other most people can keep you from hulking out. You basically gotta build it like a humans deck with occasional flipside.

Re: Liesa - In German, the e behind the i makes it a long i (=ee). So yeah, pronouncing it "Leesa" absolutely makes sense to me :D

I love my werewolf commander deck and modern deck. I can't waitnto update it with a few things from this set. Tovolar will be nice swinging in with commander damage. I run doubling season, parallel lives, second harvest, great henge, all the good wolves and werewolves. Klothys has been my commander up until Tovolar. It was actually pretty good just for the constant life gain and my play group often fetched things from their grave

@@reutermo I'm not asking for a set only in green and red with only werewolf. I'm just disappointed that in a werewolf themed set, we only received 1 legendary werewolf. I feel like this set is a human/warlock set more then a werewolf one. WotC really push the werewolf theme in there promotion and underdelivered in my opinion. It is true that I was expecting more, but my wife who was not expecting a lot still felt let down. Even the preconstructed commander deck do not have a werewolf one.

One thing you didn't mention when it comes to Dennick which I really like is that it's the perfect commander for the "Second Sunrise" type of deck - one where you sacrifice a bunch of value creatures, then use a second sunrise-type effect to reanimate EVERYTHING.

Dennick seems like a great way to use Clone creatures. Clone the front side, let the Commander go to the graveyard to the legend rule, then you can get *both* sides of its effects in a commander game

One synergy that I like with clues is Fleeting Memories and Tamiyo's Journal. With Dennick you sacrifice clues to tutor with the journal, which causes you to mill someone to potentially mill a creature and make more clues!

Sigarda reminds me a lot of Winota, Joiner of Forces from Ikoria. I think that Winota is a little bit stronger, because it directly cheats the humans into play, but I’m interested to see sigarda in action.

I'm most excited for Tovolar because I've been interested in trying werewolves, and Lynde just because I've always liked grixis and always was drawn to curses. but mostly Liesa to mess with my playgroup

I've just realized something crazy i think you can do with Lisa the forgotten archangel. Lisa+Embalm. Sac a creature with embalm on your turn for value, the creature gets marked to return to your hand on your end step, once it hits your graveyard embalm it for a token copy sending the marked card into exile. When your end step hits the card moves from exile back into your hand! Would work with any "exile from your graveyard for value" creatures or abilities aswell.

For Lynde this is definitely a deck where you'd benefit from playing paradox haze and the sphinx with the extra beginning step.

I'm not an expert (at all), but I think Lynde's "beginning of upkeep" effect can be stacked to have her move the curse before said curse triggers. Both say "at the beginning of your upkeep", so usually (I believe) that means you can order the simultaneous triggers however you want. Alternatively (if I'm wrong about choosing order of effects), isn't the stack usually ordered "last in, first out"? So if Lynde was cast after the curse, then she would trigger first.

You can order your triggers yes, but that does not change the fact you still have a curse trigger on you to resolve.

@@isaachaahr8691 Lev is rightfully saying that there is no need to wait for "your next upkeep" to move the new curse. You order the triggers in such a way that Curse of Misfortune resolve first which would make you search for a curse and attach it to yourself. Then Lynde's ability would resolve and you get to move the curse you fetched up with her ability drawing you two cards with no need to wait a turn rotation.

@@TheRensvind that's right, you can order the triggers of lynde and curse of misfortune, so each of YOUR upkeep, you're gonna search for a curse, then give it to a player. But, if i understood correctly what lev was saying, no you can't give the curse to prevent the negatve effect to hurt you. both "upkeep" will trigger, you can give the curse first, but the curse trigger will still happen on you. does it answer your questions?

For Slogurk, other than fetch lands, you could use cycling lands to pump it up instantly, then you could always get those lands back when he leaves the battlefield

I think the key to making Vadruk (and Mizzix) interesting to play over a long period of time is to keep your win conditions fun and diverse. If you just win with the same 2-3 combos every time like Josh & Jimmy were talking about you'll probably get burned out like they did. But if you build it so that your win cons have high variance, that burn out is less likely to happen.

Flash in the werewolf deck is awesome so Vedalken Orrery, etc. But also cards like Aluren and Vernal Equinox are interesting because they incentive opponents to not play on their own turn which works well with the new day/night mechanic.

Keep in mind that copying a spell with storm will only give you one copy because the storm ability triggers on vast of the spell with storm. So remanding the spell would work

With lynde, say you have “at the beginning of your upkeep, X happens” couldnt you just stack the triggers so lyndes goes off first, and then youre no longer the “enchanted player”?

Spitting Image is really good in Slogurk not only to Retrace to grow him. It can also be used to copy him, and then sac the cloned copy, triggering his ability to get the discarded lands back from Retrace to keep the cycle going. He's really powerful. As all Simic "lands matters" legends are haha.

About curse of misfortunes with Lynde: Since Lynde's second ability doesn't target a curse, you could stack it in such a way where you first tutor for a curse attached to yourself, and then instantly give it away to someone else and draw 2 cards.

Two rules details: 1) Dennick will NOT trigger of tokens as those are not cards and will NOT trigger in case of boardwipe that also destroys Dennick (because his ability is "put into GY from *anywhere*" which is not listed as ability that can "look back in time" to see what was on the BF). 2) Liesa and Dauthi Voidwalker - both are replacement effects. Which means that *the affected player or controller of the affected object" decides in which order they will be applied. So any sane opponent will just first use Liesa's replacement and then DV, which will have nothing to exile.

I think about the night-day mechanic, a lot of politics are gonna be used in it. If you for fx are playing a werewolf deck, you might make a deal with the person before you to not cast spells, therefore it becomes night on your turn.

Im super excited for Old Stickfingers, i love golgari horrors. You could totally just make it with mike n trike combo as your only creatures in the deck and the rest ramp /card draw/removal/ and reanimator spells but like they said that would get boring really fast. Im thinking maybe super ramp to throw a ton of creatures in the gy and living death, win more is always more fun than win fast imo. Either way I cant wait to see some of the stuff people brew with him. I might actually finally make a boros deck, earthquake tribal sounds pretty sweet and I have a foil 7th ed earthquake just sitting around.

I mean with heartless hidetsugu you could throw Chainer, Nightmare Adept in? Pitch heartless to chainer, cast heartless with haste using chainer, so even if they have removal you're either dealing half their life totals or dealing half their lives and looking at 60-ish cards

I've been building a new aristocrat zombie deck with Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver, the new precon commander. Theres some very cool stuff you can do with it including more then one way to create an infinite zombie army which will blow up with Aristocrats even without a sac outlet due to the decayed thing, added Zombie master + Urborg for unblockable zombies. Needless to say the Altars are all stars in this deck too theres multiple one turn win cons you can pull out, and Gravecrawler + Phyrexian altar can be devastating even without an aristocrat on board because you can just make an infinite army.

Unfortunately Liesa doesn't work that way with Dauthi Voidwalker I think. Both are replacement effects at the same "layer" and it is the object's controller that gets to decide what order to apply them in.

Re: Dauthi Voidwalker + Liesa A permanent or player affected by multiple replacement effects is resolved in the order of that player or permanent's owner. An opponent will likely choose to apply Liesa's ability rather than Dauthi Voidwalker if both in play.

As I recall, both Ulrich and Tovolar are firmly antagonist characters, so it would be nice to get another commander candidate more like Arlinn. (Or just an Arlinn card that can be played as your commander through either rules text or transformation shenanigans.)

The Craig insert inspired me to this: Curse of Infecting - 2G Enchantment Aura Curse Enchant Player Whenever a creature with Infect controlled by enchanted player deals combat damage to a player other than enchanted player, that creature deals that damage to its controller instead.

Before Tovolar, the easiest way to keep Werewolves as Werewolves was play Naya Werewolves. White may not be good at drawing cards, but it is good at making sure people don't cast spells. Now, though, my Samut deck has Werewolf Tribal competition.

There is plenty of combos you can do with stickfingers , the problem is that you have to pick one and build your deck around it , personally i will assemble my own griselbrand with ooze and asmodeus skirge familiar and win by looping spells , other combos for x=2 are probably stronger but lions eye diamond is a big yikes.
