This was originally an hour-long broadcast but I've removed all the music as KZfaq was automatically blocking the video due to copyright claims. Enjoy the interviews - you can find all the music elsewhere anyway.

Whatever you think of these blokes, you have to give them credit for being intelligent, passionate and introspective - rare traits in the world of rock and roll.

Great interview! I was not sure if Blue Sky Mine would be touched in this interview but I was pleasantly surprised. Originally hearing the song in 1990, but being from the states and not understanding what it was about until 2024 and 67 now, I have an appreciation for the song. I have been following up on the Wittenoom story. While the song was done in 1990, this issue still goes on. Wittenoom no longer exists as a town but there is still debate about the cleanup and whose responsibility it is. And with WA government hoping that closing off the town roads, erecting signs, and threatening prosecution of trespassers that this will stop people is a pipe dream. Of course if I do visit Australia, I have had enough video footage of the mines and other historic events regarding Wittenoom to know I don’t want to visit. But I would like to see it cleaned up so that people might eventually be able to visit. Again great interview!

A different time or what has really changed? Not the Oil's attitude.

Midnight Oil - so earnest on every issue. They made a decent living profiteering from issues - even did it for 17 years mailing it (the back catalogue) in. Rob Hirst gave up a child for adoption as a 19 year old; then rejected the mother of that child; then - once reunited with biological daughter - told us about it via Lisa Wilkins (of all people)… and wanted our sympathy. Take a view of that issue.

So Rob Hurst gave birth? A huge step for feminism! Or did he make a woman give up their child at gun point? It sounds like two teenagers had to make a difficult decision in the 1970's. The issues you talk of obviously happened in the 1970's, a different time in Australia.

@@paulthesurfer7470 somethings are constant through history - the responsibility of being a parent. Obviously being a father at 19 - was too much of a responsibility - and would have gotten in the way of a band life and career. I just thought it was touching that after all those decades of their earnest “anti-commercial” stance - he pops on on Channel 9 with his 35 year old daughter with the heart-warming story as told to Lisa Wilkinson- as a nice way of promoting a record (and a feeling) to a mainstream commercial audience. Everyone needs a dollar - more so when you hit 60. I think you can simply reflect a little - and see the hypocrisy. No man is perfect.

@@naj70 I would suggest to you that his very mature daughter had just as much choice in the interview as Rob. You are a troll, dragging muck from 50 years ago out into a public forum as if you were the mother and were forced to surrender your child. I provided shelter for a pregnant teenager when I was barely 21 (1981) and she surrendered her child because, like many in her situation, she wanted the child to have a loving family, who desperately wanted a child. She felt a termination was not for her. It was her choice - what women want - choice. If I was 19, I would consider myself incapable of providing for a child. Rob Hurst is at least 65 years old, that would make his daughter well over 40, if your crap is true. I am sure she can think for herself. You cannot even do your arithmetic, fool. Get back under your rock.
