Loved this movie, and they said it perfectly. Even though you can predict what's going on and what will probably happen, it's still very effective and fun to watch. Everything is gorgeous and the performances are spot on, so it's not bothersome when you're right about what was coming. Dramatic irony is dramatic lol

Crimson Peak looked, to me, like a Hammer Horror Classic.

I had heard that the movie was more of a gothic romance than a horror movie so I went in expecting that. Another reason that it make sense while the Ghosts are done they way they are is because the main character herself says the ghosts in her story (the one she was writing) are a metaphor, so I assumed that they'd have a similar function in the movie. Over all I really loved the movie, it's not my favorite (it's in spot 5 of my list) but it was just so well made and so beautiful made that I couldn't help but fall in love with it. I love every single detail and the fact that the ghosts were so detailed is great too. I also loved that all of the ghosts except for one are actually people in makeup and prosthetics with digital affects over them, it really added to the detail.

I've heard the marketing is really being misleading on this, (much to del Toro's chagrin,) and it's supposed to be more of a spooky gothic romance than a 'horror' story.

+OneColdMonkey Yeah I heard a similar story about Pan's Labyrinth, which is actually called El Laberinto del Fauno (Labyrinth of The Faun). The god Pan literally has nothing to do with the movie other than looking similar to a faun.

All the promotion work I saw on Pans Labyrinth made it look like a horror film, then I actually watched it and felt the trailers made it look pretty shit by comparison as it's a beautiful dark fantasy film

I saw this today after a job interview. Even though I saw all the twists coming a mile away (and kept hearing Doug yell "MOOOOOST UNORTHODOOOOOOOOOOX!" in a shrill voice whenever Edith was on screen), I found it really entertaining. It was also fun to riff on, I laughed my ass off when the yandere incest sister got killed off, just getting smashed in the head with a shovel unceremoniously, meanwhile Edith and Tom's ghost have this big tragic farewell immediately afterwards, what an anti-climax LMAO

As usual with Del Toro, the effects on the ghosts are amazing, and actually reference the resting place and the demise of the spirit. Brilliant use of visual storytelling.

You know its funny they mention the face-stabbing, only because I think that totally happened in Pan's Labyrinth. So...stabbing a guy in the face is the new way to tell him, "You suck and I hate you."

I'll watch your Midnight Screening now or later and would like to write about that in my reply to this comment :) But when it comes to me: I enjoyed the movie, surely in my Top 10 of 2015 so far and after "The Babadook" a great horror movie of this year.

ophthalmologist do have to study the entire human body and are MD's. They could practice primary care if they wanted to. Optometrist only study the eye have an OD degree. Hunnam was playing an ophthalmologist and that is way he noticed foul play or something strange with the father's body.

*spoiler spoiler spoiler* God, that fucking face stab. Creepiest thing I've probably ever seen in a movie. Just... the way it's done is squickier than any Saw or Halloween, or chainsaw massacre. And then he pulls it out of his face and I'm just like "WAIT FOR A DOCTOR. PEOPLE ARE COMING. GIVE EM TEN MINUTES."

I found "Crimson Peak" to be disappointing. The sets and costumes were gorgeous, hiddleston was fantastic, and the characters were great, but what I found underwhelming was the plot. I thought they were gonna pull some "Fall of the House of Usher" shit, but they didn't. What's the point of having ghosts in a film if they don't really serve the plot?
@hamstercom23
@hamstercom23 8 жыл бұрын
So basicaly it's Rebecca with possible incest? I was definetely getting a Rebecca vibe from the trailers I'd seen but I was sure they couldn't possibly be that much alike, guess I was wrong. I love Tom Hiddleston, but not sure this one's for me ( I hate it when a film I'm watching is basicaly the exact same plot as one I've seen before ).

I actually watched this matinee yesterday and yeah I kinda predicted the whole thing. Only part I got a tad bit wrong I thought sister was wife she wasn't wife but still incest. The rest honestly predicted. One thing don't know why this bothered me but in the end when the guys ghost shows up why it looked so decayed when he just died.

It's for the same reason the other girl looked like a blood monster and her mother looked like a horrifying ash statue. Your death transforms you. A human person doesn't look like that when they're covered in blood.
@gRinchY-op5vr
@gRinchY-op5vr 6 жыл бұрын
Each ghost looked a certain way/different to each other due to their personalities and how they felt before they died. His ghost had rust due to his love of inventing and how it was pretty much why he did what he did, and he's meant to be trapped in eternal sorrow and guilt over it all. His sister is meant to be forever in anger and jealousy over her brother falling for another woman and basically failing to keep him to herself. Same with the ghosts of the previous women they murdered for money, all personal touches rather than showing how long they had been dead for or the actual circumstance of their deaths

This was universally panned, undrwhelming film and mostly empty....but damn, it has Hiddleson, good CGI and looked sumptuous, best looking of the year....and more Hiddleson yes.....but it left us a bit "thirsty" for more...an opportunity wasted, with little in surprises and plot thinnes.
