A really cool idea for a video would be "How to do time skips". This actually happens a lot in light novels, and stories in general, but very little is explained as in how to do it for authors. In my story for example there is a time skip of a few thousands of years, then another.

My story is inspired by battle manga like Fist of the North Star, and No More Heroes. It follows a naturally strong boxer as he fights his way to the top ranks of the battle world. the setting uses a lot of magical and video game realism. The setting is a universe that uses video game logic, tropes; both fighting games, beat'em ups and rpg mechanics.

Even Attack On Titan's power system follows The Three Laws of magic.

I normally take pieces of different power systems to create a new one like usual writing. Example is combine bleach spiritual energy with naruto's Chakra with abilities of both vibes

A little comment on the first law: The first law states that you shouldn't solve conflict with magic the reader don't understand. It doesn't necessarily means you have to explain everything, just when it's used to solve conflict. It's generaly ok to use magic the reader don't understand that well to cause problems. Also, the type of problems you face might not be solvable through magic (ex. Internal conflict or personal relationships). That's actually a good trick to write overpowered characters, to give them things you can't blow away with magical rays. There's also how a lot of soft magic fantasies keep things interesting.

The source of power in my story is the characters psyche and mental similarly to JoJo's stands, however it doesn't manifest a physical presence (stands do manifest a physical presence), one of the characters has the ability to create electric shocks with their hands (at the level of a taser) due to them wanting to solve all conflicts easily and quickly without anyone getting too hurt.

Though I don't have a solid grasp of how my power system works in concept, the idea is designing it around using both hand-to-hand combat, and magic to amplify and act as an extension to the user's physical capabilities (with potentially some more traditional usage of magic to some degree).

I wish I saw this earlier. I just came up with my power system today. It's a combination of 2 things, the first is special rings called "wither rings" which give different types of powers but can't be removed until the user dies. The second thing is alchemy. It's mainly potions with magic like effects but there's also transmutation which can be used by wearing amulets made with philosopher stones I really wanted to have a power system that wasn't based on genetic ability but instead relies on an outside source. That way everyone has an equal chance to get any power.

The power system on my series is somewhat a crossbreed between Stands and Devil fruits ,they're artifacts that can bond with a person and give them powers that can range from Useless to straight up reality bending ,artifact abilities dosent follow realism or the laws of physics. Their limitations are what i call "Oxymorons" which are their own abilities that contradicts with their primary abilities. My Example is this one character that can manipulate temperature around him and manipulate any matter that is above or below warm temperature but the oxymoron of that is that he cant make elemental reactions like freezing or melting however oxymorons can be exploited like using ice that never melts or fire that can never be put out by water. My system is not fleshed out that much so there may be some slight OPness to them so i will try to balance them out.

I kinda want basic magic system for all characters like summoning, elements, energy, Alchemy(Chemistry), Conjuring, Illusions, and Enchanting but each character has special abilities that is based on ones spirit or something that has been passed down through family tree or generations. Like Character is able to learn and use the basic fireball technique that every basic level mage would know but is also able to use their family's special ability like the ability to predict the future, which would make them higher ups in the social system but the limitation is between 15 mins to 1 year depending (busted at the moment though) and its only a guess as they can see multiple outcomes but a huge drawback is damaging or completely breaking the mental state of the user which means it can't be used over and over again, and must be used when really needed. This ability was created Or another special ability could be something that increases the user's Physical, Mental, Spiritual, and magic state by 50 fold but a drawback is that it can harm the mind, body, and soul the longer its used. The only way to achieve this transformation is if the user can at least recognize their destiny and come to terms with it, they do not have to follow it but if they do the transformation gains increase powers and a longer time limit. This ability can be achieved almost instantly after knowing about it existence or can literally be achieved on your death bed or never at all. The ability Manifest Destiny in my world was created by an Soldier who was severely wounded in battle but was able to survive and achieved Manifest Destiny after realizing and coming to terms with the fact he was fighting for freedom of his nation. I don't know, I just want a basic magic system that doesn't sound super boring and with some extra stuff in it. Oh now that I'm thinking about it, this all is starting to sounds like bloodlines (Kekki Genkais) from Naruto, crap welp time to start over again.

So I recently came up with a power system for a battle shonen idea, so here it is. Kinda inspired by Bleach. Basically, due to an event that occured in the past, some people (don't worry, it's a decent chunk, maybe around 40% or so) are born as "spirit weavers". A spirit weaver can effectively channel power from their soul to generate "spirit threads", which are then woven into their own unique "spirit weapon". There are spirit weapons of various different shapes and special powers, and while it is possible to get new abilities, they are generally based on the core power of the spirit weapon in question. Most spirit weavers also get a general physical amp, though as shown with the main character, there are exceptions. The aformentioned new abilities are acquired mostly through understanding the capabilities of your spirit weapon better on a scientific level and doing new things with them (kinda like the esper powers in Index/Railgun), or looking at them from a more conceptual perspective (significantly harder). To give some examples, the main character's spirit weapon is essentially a separate body he can control remotely by transferring his consciousness into it. This is actually both good _and_ bad for the same reason: he got no buffs from being a spirit weaver and is generally kinda sickly, so while it lets him fight quite well despite that (especially since the Astral Body, as I'm calling it, is actually physically _stronger_ than a good chunk of spirit weaver bodies), it also leaves his unconscious true body as a sitting duck. Later on, he would gain abilities such as switching places with his Astral Body or having it become armor for him. It can also wield the spirit weapons of other people, but they have to be present so they can give them to him, it can't recreate them itself. The main rival has these funky martial arts gloves that let him control attractive and repulsive forces to a limited capacity, though only in one direction at first. Eventually, he would learn how to expand his power's area of effect, up to and including omnidirectional attacks, as well as create vortexes that draw in either physical matter (resulting in something akin to a mini Chibaku Tensei) or energy/elemental attacks. The primary love interest uses an electric katana, and would usually just fire off bolts and waves of lightning at a distance while striking at melee with electrically-charged slashes. Her spirit weapon would later evolve to include a sheath, allowing her to utilize iaido techniques by charging up her sword while it's sheathed. There's also electromagnetism, the ability to transform into lightning for a split second, a field she can generate in which anyone who tries to attack her is struck (think Killua's Whirlwind)- She's basically a samurai version of Misaka Mikoto is what I'm saying. Up to and including becoming a macguffin in an arc due to the capabilities of her electric powers. So yeah, with those examples out of the way, that's the power system I thought up recently.

My power system is super confusing. This is just basics How to use a power? 1. Enough energy points 2. 2nd minds permission ( the 2nd you, who gives you permission to use powers) 3. Correct pattern memory ( example- if you think about your x-box, you can use crystal or not) 4. Correct power command ( better your power command, faster your power comes out) 5. Extra focus ( less focus can weaken your power ) Power variety- There are only 2 types of power. 1. White energy 2. Darkness White energy has 2 type- 1. Visible energy ( fire, water, everything can be seen) 2. Invisible energy ( wind, heat, solar, everything can be sense ) Darkness ( very modern power variety. only 2 character used it) Limitations- 1. Power users die in an early age 2. Even though everyone knows how to use powers. People are prohibited to use them. 3. Being an hero means, you will be a blacklist to the government. When the president of a country become old government will take the hero's power to save the president. Energy cut (like chackra) 1. Strong powers take a big amount of energy & they are easy to avoid too 2. Weak powers are very easy to create & they are hard to avoid. But they barely scratch the opponents. 3. Long range power can't be use in short range or you will hurt yourself 4. After you ran out of power, you will be ok but if you still try to use your power than - first you will can't see very well, then it will be hard to breathe, that you will lose your home-made power. Good things- 1. Powers are customisable. You can make your power heavy or faster based on your choices 2. You can create & develop your own power which no one seen before. You can also teach them 3. Everyone born with a same power. So, you have to be unique to your powers ( maybe watch some KZfaq videos to create your most balanced power 😊 ) 4. If you pass your 3rd phase of power, you can get a virtual friend who will stay in your mind. 5. Everyone has same energy, so use your energy effectively to win 6. Your power is only yours. Only you can customise it. This is just a chunk of my power-system. It is way more complex. But at least I followed all the steps 😊😊

Great video once again =D In my previous manga project, Mikon no Mirai, I had a power system that was similar to Ki in Dragon Ball and Chakra in Naruto which I named Prana, The Prana in the Mikon no Mirai universe is an energy-based power system that evolved naturally over the course of tens of millions of years within the human population of New Gaia and has multiple applications within that society. One of the most notable applications of Prana is the mind-healing performed by Serafu's family which is used to heal life crippeling traumatic memories. It's also used to enhance the user's strength in the same way Ki is used in Dragon Ball.

my power system is based off of cooking, different ingredients give you temporary powers and the way you put those ingredients in food changes the temporary buff. for example, gelatin gives you water powers and capsaicin(the spicy stuff in peppers) gives you fire powers, but if you mix them when creating the food so like spicy gelatin then you get smoke but if you don't mix and just sprinkle hot sauce on gelatin you get water and fire separated. (this is only an example, my magic system will be more complicated and be more than just elemental)

I actually write novels (though I would like to create Manga - I'm trying to learn draw) my power system is based on positive and negative emotions. Though it starts off as a soft magic system and turns into a hard magic system as we see greater people command these powers. Animes like HunterxHunter and Jujutsu Kaisen have been a primary inspiration for how the world's are created but I'm always looking expand further outside of that and try different things.

Edit: Sorry for the deletion of my last comment btw, but recently, I'm still struggling on my Aera. Recently, I've been obsessed with Demon Slayer, and I really admired the Breathing Styles. I liked them because they're not like flashing universal energies, but they're literal tools that the characters use to fight, not wonder weapons or golden tickets that would instantly lead them to victory. (It's also kinda why I rather not make them similar as any powers from Marvel or DC comics, cause they vary a bit TOO MUCH in my opinion) In simple terms, I've been trying to make my Aera similar the Breathing Styles, because it felt much closer to being human, and NEVER a god or demon either, just an esoteric extension of their being.

Im still working on the small details of my power system but the basic concept that I have so far is Neta which is like Chakra from Naruto except the powers aren’t only limited to the elements. Also, the characters cant just use their powers straight from their Neta.There are 3 Neta Types which are Psycho-Neta (mind), Formal-Neta (body), and Bio-Neta (nature). In order to use their powers, the person needs a tribal gear which is basically a weapon or accessory that acts as a circuit for the Neta flowing in the body and converts the flowing energy into powers. A tribal gear can be a sword, glasses, gauntlet, hair clip, necklace, etc. Tribal gears are custom to the spirit of the user, which means every tribal gear is tailored to the person & cannot be worn or used by anyone else other than the rightful owner.

A bit unsure if this counts, but my power system - Branches of Z'ontok, they are more for connection to the earth. They cannot be used to cause willful harm or destruction. Much like a support. For example, for water/darkness, fons, one can make reflections in water (ie disney water show for ref) and seeing in the dark. There are four branches and each branch can have an aspect of another branch. It's kinda inspired from christianity and their stewardship to the earth. Thing.

And a science-magic based system based on orbal arts in trails. in this world magic is a lost art in the universe. Magic is a fantasy concept and long lost on earth. This system isn’t from Earth so I can introduce each system separately before creating a scenario that creates unique interactions between the two. I'm always interested in how much having magical powers gives the character power. Maybe the power would come from an increase of status and appreciation from authority figures such as kings or it could come directly as a manifestation of fighting ability. Another possibility is that it could quickly increase their wealth. 🙃 I remember being super curious about gandalf when I first saw a little picture book of The Hobbit based off and adapted movie. I really wanted to know what he could do. Later on when I was introduced to the original book I remember being very impressed that his arm was broken in the Battle of five armies. It showed that he was very powerful but not even close to invincible. I loved it. I also remember being totally bored by Superman cartoons. This one scene that drove me completely crazy was when a giant boulder was hurtling towards him to crush him and he just put up his hands and it bounced right off it killed any tension seeing that he couldn't get hurt no matter what.

Well for my story, I break the powers into two categories, elemental and conceptual. Elemental can be anything dealing with the makeup of the universe, and conceptual can be anything like "Copying the abilities of another"

How does one bring meaning to the fights that happen in the story? I am struggling with this. I'm not writing these scenes yet but I'm stuck between, "Ok, does my book not need any fight scenes?" or "Does my book not have any fight scenes yet because I don't know how to make a compelling fight?" I used HunterxHunter as my inspiration and reference for my power system. So the powers are from your Aura or Life Energy, they're all born with 2 specific elements (there's 6% chance that you get a rare element) and form of Aura (Emitter, Transmutation, and Manipulation.), Overusing them can cause in a fever or stiffness in your muscles. And of course, you need practice to be able to use it.

I thought of a power system that comes from a comet and can only be seen in an astral plane called the infinite boundary. There are two sides of the boundary both infinite in size with one being connected to the human realm is called the shore or white abyss and that’s where the comet which came from the shore crosses over to the human realm and grants powers Ps just came up with this in my head from scratch

My idea for a power system is mixed of Science and Magic. I always liked the idea that magic is actually biological, hidden gene that allows human cell to do specific mechanic that results in a power that looked like magic and the limitation is Mental and Physical Ability of the user. Like for example fire magic is just ability of the body cells to intensify body heat in specific area and conjuring fire by reacting that heat with oxygen present everywhere, their magic extremely weakened on high altitude due to the lack of oxygen.

my power system is built around how bad the characters want it. and how they see there opponents if they go against a stronger foe and want to win it’ll be a very vicarious battle and if they both weak but still want to win it’ll be big and flashy fight with nothing but small attacks and heavier punches

First time writer here and I’ve been sitting on a concept. Living gems that latch on to a user and bestow upon them an elemental power that fits their spiritual energy. The power system in my light novel is an emotion-based magic system. This can inherently be complex. For example, if a character doesn't want to fight, then their attacking spells will be weak. Or if a character relies on negative emotions for their spells, that can have physical and psychological consequences

I have a minor idea that's basically like a crossover between Genshin (where the archons or whatever gives the user a power in a time of need./lowest point if their life. so my power system comes from the primes who are cosmic entities giving away parts of their energy to living beings they think are worthy on random planets for them to protect it. our story follows earth that was visited by the prime of light who gave a human the ability of energy absorption. this power which the humans named the spark can be passed on from user to user to protect the world over generations. the user of the spark can create energy shield that can absorb energy whether it is a simple punch or an energy beam and then use this energy to enhance their strangth speed stamina metabolism, they can heal themselves, project kenetic energy or heat up the air to turn it into plasma, with this energy they can even power electric systems and project light to blind their enemies. one of the main drawbacks is that they have to keep a lot of energy to do all this, of course they can do that without having to absorb energy in the first place but then they’ll use their own energy and calories and if they do this too much they can die of exhaustion so usually they absorb attacks to use the spark

Hello! I do appreciate the form to work out for our own power systems. I have 2 questions. When creating story arcs for a manga series, how many characters should one have especially for a Introduction Arc? Because I have 34 characters for the first arc. Is that too much? Then is there difference between paranormal and supernatural manga? Because my own series is supernatural and sci-fi and I want to make sure that I've not put in the other category.
