Even in today 2023 no woman even comes close to midori's speed and height in her triple axels she actually gets high as or if not more than the men

The height on that triple axel is just breathtaking. Much higher than Tonya Harding...wow!!!!

This is one if her highest triple axels ever, but most of all, her most easy triple axel. She made that jump look and feel like a regular double axel! That is just out of this world!

i have never seen a woman in all history land a triple axel with so much speed and power and height, i think midori's triple axel is higher than tonya harding, just gotta luve it:)

NIPPY66 it is higher and more perfect in Axis. Tonya’s triple Axel falls off axis like the hand on a speedometer. Which is why she falls on her ass

My god what I would give up just to go back in time and replace her short program triple Lutz fall at Albertville with the one in this program. It’s so high, she has to wrap her free leg higher up to slow her down and avoid over-rotating, rendering the jump a paradoxical effortless power in slow-motion.

@trav16z She wasnt up for the stress of amateur competition by that point. Not in a million years would she have wanted the pressure of Albertville all over again.

I dont understand her leg position... she doesnt close her ankles like the skaters do now...anyways her triple axel is something to die for!

GlidingArt99 it’s a learned behavior from since she started skating. Typically skaters go the other way - tight closed leg position, as this speeds up your rotation, so you can complete more revolutions without requiring height on your jumps. Midori however is a freak of nature in that her leg muscles twitch at perfect millisecondth time and in perfect coordinatiob that propels her higher in the air than what the jumps require. Therefore, to avoid overrotating, she crosses her free higher up the leg creating a wider, less aerodynamic position. This slows down her jumps just perfectly. You will notice on her triple toe triple toe she is relatively tight legged, which corresponds to the relatively Lower height she gives the jump.

I think she a tad bow leg which might be why she wraps up high not sure. Either way it doesn’t keep her from jumping

Candeloro is bow-legged as well, but he didn't have a high leg wrap. About Ito, she was just that naturally talented and strong in how she could do her jumps with wrapping her free leg quite high at times. She could probably do quads if her jumps were tighter in the air!

monica carranco there is only 1 queen of the triple axel Midori. no one else is even close. there are ladies triple axel videos available on you tube of the 8 ladies who have landed a tripel axel in international competition, including mirai. midori is always rated number 1. midori was the 1st to land the 3A in 1988, the 1st to land the 3A at the olympics. Midori's Albertville olympics triple axel was honored by the olympic channel as one of its 30 impossible moments at the winter olympic games.

Yes, Ito is the triple axel queen forever, but overall it's Ito and Harding as the triple axel leaders. With their triple axels and the power, speed, height, distance and technique, these two women are in a different league and continue to be!
