Several months ago I wrote how I have been in bed for 2 years with depression and have gone from a beautiful home to an overwhelming disaster. 200 wonderful people took time out of their day to write words of encouragement and offer helpful suggestions…all of which have been a great blessing to me. I am making progress and I am so grateful to you all. I had made myself invisible in life. Thank you all. God bless.

As someone who works in a donation center, THANK YOU for pointing out and not donating moldy & stained stuff that should be taken straight to the garbage. I have to deal with that every day, & people dont realize that nonprofits lose money and time having to ship away molded, rotten furniture. If you think it should be tossed, toss it. Nonprofits are not the dump.

It's the same story everywhere. When we had massive flooding in various areas of Germany, they put up donation centers to provide those who had suddenly lost everything with the bare necessities. I talked to someone who worked in one of those centers, and she told me people put sacks full of dirty, crapped on clothes, single shoes and socks, broken china etc. in front of the building at night. They had to shut the place down eventually.

2:20-3:50, I have autistic traits (no official diagnosis), and the "clutter becomes your environment" is real. I live alone, so all cleaning is done by me, when i have the time+energy after a full time job (which cuts into my "hobbies" time). I just deep cleaned the bathroom, and holy moley. I - pulled everything out of the bathroom closet and shelves, - wiped down all the incredibly dusty surfaces - mopped the floor - wiped down the wall tile and scrubbed _some_ of the grout (i abandoned that idea pretty quick) - and cleaned the toilet (which is usually very overdue and a near biohazard) by the end, i had a laundry basket full of nicknacks, and was too exhausted to continue (i sorted through the laundry basket yesterday, and threw away like 45% of it)

It still fascinates me how people can carry the burden of what they're going to do but never do - for Years. I saw what looked like yarn in the video and it reminded me of the rug making project my mother bought supplies for, but never ever started, for 30 years. She carried that stuff from house to house to house to house to house for 30 years, always, always intending to make that art project, and never even cut the first batch of yarn. It's not a slam, I carried my rug supplies (bought at the same time) for decades, too, having almost finished it, but not quite. It was a pleasure to get rid of eventually. We humans are very strange things.

I had a professional camera that I used for a couple months only and then did nothing with it for 10 years. I finally donated it. I tried professional photography( my two brothers did wedding photography, videography for years so I wanted to try it) but I didn't have enough confidence to be successful. You have to look like you know what you are doing otherwise the ppl will question what you tell them to do. Also, too many people wanted me to photograph them for free. Even my brothers told me my pictures looked good so I felt like I should be paid.

My thoughts on this: as long as we still have a project that we will start "tomorrow" or complete "soon", there is still hope. Hope to fulfill dreams, to be capable of something, to be able to create something beautiful. If there is no more unfinished project, there is no more future, no more hope, only waiting for death. That's not necessarily true, but it feels like it.
@allalala9916
@allalala9916 Ай бұрын
@@schnetzelschwester I actually started, finished or at least tried everything I dreamt of doing and then came up with new things to do or realized you will never be great at anything if you don’t work on it regularly. Just waiting and dreaming of doing a project is living in fantasy land. Once you start working on it you might realize how much you dislike it, how bad you are at it or how easy it actually is comparing to what you thought it will be or how practicing everyday makes you better and better and that you wish you started sooner. you can’t learn piano in one week, but if you practice for 20 minutes a day for a year you will go far. Same with organization and cleaning, a little a day will get you further than a big weekend project

As the child of a hoarder who is now sorting through that hoard, i'm throwing my own childhood away. It's very hard to focus on the trash part. I have support but not much physical help so I have to touch all of it and it plain sucks. I sometimes replay the parts where you describe the $ involved and remember that if I don't do this... I will pay for it in a different way. I am far below the poverty line so I must pay in time and not money. Plus I live here as a full time caregiver so there is no reprieve from the overwhelm. So, thank you for recording and narrating with an honest tone because it has truly been a helpful respite when I break for my 10 minute sanity pause.... turned my "camper" into a dump trailer so i'm using what i've got and pluggin' away!

I just think about how that unicorn stuffie came to be in this home, and how something that maybe have been a gift or a treat at the store one day became just a percentage of this trash entity. It really illustrates the emotional space of the people living here and I hope they are able to get to their “unicorn stuffie” selves again ❤

Flawless Cleaning and FlippingDrawers!!! Yes!! They are two of my favorite guys too! If anyone else wants to watch a combo of a yard guy and a cleaning up mess guy I recommend Quick Cuts! He's out of Tasmania and he will do complete yard makeovers where he hauls all the trash out of the yard to the dump and then cuts the grass, trims the trees - just does it all.

I could never understand precisely how the trash in this quantities could land on the floor. But now you explane it in such simple words I can understand it better. It is not to be rude, but sometimes it is so difficult to understand how things work in the mind of people who deal with a variaty of problems. Thanks for being you who can tell people like me how things happen and creats with that more understanding and empathy. Irma from the Netherlands

I identified with what Mack said . Realized that when I ride with my family in their car, we all treat the floor as a trash can. I empty the trash at gas stations,etc.,but they don't. And I learned about things disappearing into the clutter. New insights

My sister had an apartment for seven months (a number of years ago). It doesn't take long for people that hoard and don't clean to accumulate stuff. The floors were covered and it was very hard to walk through. One would think it would take years to get trash that more than a few inches thick, but it doesn't.

Y’all… I got my living room cleaned out. Took about a week and quite a few contractor trash bags. My nephew helped me put my totes of Christmas decorations that have been sitting around for two years up in the attic and I took several boxes of things to a thrift shop. Now I had some motivation because of course my air conditioner died right before a heat wave and I needed to make room to get the old one out and the new one installed. It’s not perfect, I gotta vacuum and dust but now I can get to those spots to vacuum and dust. You guys are still amazing.

This video really struck home for me seeing all the children's toys. My daughter who has struggled with ADHD and the associated depression has lived most of her adult life like this. Being on housing assistance actually helped her keep things under control, for awhile. She would clean frantically for the upcoming inspections. But in the end lost her assistance, in her mind, because of me. She passed the inspection but the landlord needed to do some work in the basement. When the inspector returned to check that the work has been completed she asked me to let them in because she was working. Unfortunately the house had already returned to its usual condition and because she and her boyfriend had removed the bulkhead stairs previously to get a sofa in to the basement I had no choice but to let the inspector in through the house. Needless to say the inspector was shocked by the condition of the house. She lost her housing assistance because of it and blamed me for letting the inspector into the house when she only needed to look at the basement. She's been kicked out of every rental she's ever had. We are now estranged and I have no idea of where our how she's living with her 11yo son. He older daughters are now in their 20's and living on their own. Without the proper support, with our without medication, ADHD can be devastating to a family; it was for mine. 💔

My cleaning Angel 😇 fantastic job with your loving heart and soul. Jason, great work helping your Dad with his Autistic burn out you like your Dad you have a good heart and soul. So many people just ignore other people nowadays. When I was a young lady, I would seek out the elderly people in the neighborhood I grew up in and see if they needed help. Most of them did, and I always did whatever I could for them. They'd always want to pay me, and I always refused. I always got Christmas cards with money and notes of appreciation with a please get yourself something. I saved up that money for school, and it was always appreciated but never wanted or demanded anything for what I did. Doing this for people just makes you a better person. You don't always have to be paid for what you can do, but the people you do it for never forget you. Lots of them kept in touch with me until they passed. The last card I got was in 1984. I miss all of them, and I think about all of them, and it always makes me feel good and smile. People look around. There are lots of people who just need a little help. A Little of your time could make all the difference in the world to them. It's truly rewarding. Thank you, my cleaning, Angel 😇 ❤

Went through autistic burnout earlier this year after going through the process of buying my house. I'm glad you mentioned this, because I didn't realize that's what I was experiencing until you said this and I looked into it. I was diagnosed ASD a few years ago, and I am still learning about myself. Luckily I am now through it, but it was a couple months where I didn't know why I was feeling the way I was. Good to be able to put a name to it and have that in my pocket for the future.

Hello Mack. Jason was doing a fantastic job on that kitchen. You taught him well. I had knee replacement surgery in December and can't get down on my knees to do that kind of stuff. I use a walker and my balance is not that great. I called the Central Illinois agency on Aging and I have 3 hours of homemaking help. That would be a good resource for anyone to call. My place is clean and comfortable. I don't know how people can think someone with a hoarding disorder is just lazy and doesn't care. I felt overwhelmed looking at that stuff in your video. It has to be miserable to live with that. I don't think anyone could relax in that, and one's home should be a sanctuary where one feels safe, comfortable,and at peace. Everyone deserves that. Thanks for what you do.

pregnancy gave me the worst mental space of my life 2 years ago. I was unable to work with severe sciatica (nerve pain) it pained me to clean and my house slowly got worse. I wouldn’t let my husband clean up after me (often he did just because he knew it was stubbornness and self hate guiding that decision) but as a person who loves cleaning and love a nest space I still think about that time. Unless you’ve been in the headspace you’ll never understand how it gets like that.
