I used to only run 20 minutes before introduction of big maps. Only downside was sometimes when you had to carry a game your fuel was a limiting factor in decisions.

MLAs radar is a bit quirky. When you are low to the ground you should be using MTI mode. At higher altitude normal mode without MTI/LD will track the target and guide the missile. Even if the radar starts locking chaff there is a high chance that your missile will still hit. MLAs radar is prone to notching so shooting at targets that are going sideways to you is risky. Also if an enemy is hugging the ground the R-24R will probably miss. So to conclude the best use scenario - shoot directly head-on at 5-8km when low to the ground using MTI mode, and if you’re at altitude use regular mode without MTI.

i will add that the range in statistics tab is max range of missile, while realistically if the enemy goes away from you range drops to 3-5 km and around 10 km in head-on, best way to lock is to use acm radar mode and wait for full 2 red circles when warming up missile

It’s hard to say, because even if you do everything right and make no mistakes, your team may leave you against 5 planes. And it happens often. 23MLD should be played utilizing its speed generally. Fast passes, use R-60Ms in close-range head-ons, shoot R-24Rs at diving enemies. Don’t forget about utilizing wing sweep in dogfights, but generally try to avoid them. If you stuck in one, best rate fighting speed is around 800 kph with unfolded wings. But, if you’re dogfighting F-16s, MiG-29s or Su-27s, Mirage 2000s or 4000s, F-15s, JAS37s - your best bet is to run.

Hello! Sorry for extremely late reply. MiG-23s radar range depends on your altitude - below 6000 ft it only allows the range of 30km. At higher altitude, e.g. 15k ft it allows to switch to 90 km.

Yes, MLD/MLA radar has MTI/LD which is basically a “worse” pulse doppler.

@@GUSWT but in my experience its mti is better than mig23mf and its equivalent.. it filter the ground as it is a pulse doppler, which makes me frustated as i couldnt notch and chaff.. do you know the effective way to chaff normal radar without spamming it?

@@rifwann basically turning away from non-PD lock and chaffing will defeat the missile. Normal radar mode will start locking chaff after you deployed it, but because a radar is like a flashlight some waves will still hit your plane and continue to guide the missile. So if you will do the same maneuver (chaff and notch) against normal radar mode it will allow you to dodge successfully. Unfortunately I don’t know the exact amount of chaff drops needed to defeat this type of lock, but theoretically combining chaff and notching should reduce the amount of chaff needed.

You can view radar contacts on your HUD represented by horizontal lines. Try looking in general vicinity of enemy planes, e.g. at start of the match look over enemy bases at alt of 5-7km.

There is counterplay to them. You can notch the MiG-23's radar by going 90 degrees to enemy aircraft while dropping chaff. That maneuver should defeat R-24R. You can also drive the missile into the ground by flying low or diving. But yes, as any decent radar missile, they are hard to dodge and does balance things a bit.
