Trev - WOW - I can't thank you enough for telling my story to all your viewers, with so much enthusiasm and detail! I am truly humbled, and honored by your very kind words. I do hope I can help you in some way in the future! I also enjoyed the plug welding tips very much. I had no idea that making a larger hole increased the strength so significantly! That will certainly change the way I make plug welds in the future.

Ron - I've loved your books and videos, and my kids know your voice and fall asleep in minutes to it. PERFECT as they were growing up :) The one book I didn't have with a chapter by you hammer forming a peddle car I bought just recently on Trev's recommendation. Ed Barr also speaks well of you and your influence in his books. He started a channel just recently to stay sane through shutdown going back to basics at home.

Hello Trev. Really enjoyed this mini series on welding like the history of Ron Cavall too obviously. I really pleased that your planning to do more videos making complex panels shape. I love the artistic shapes you made for your bedford van I need to rewatch the whole series again from start to finish. I love the channel and pleased your doing what you want to do and not what everbody wants you to do. you are a real and proper Artisan.

All I can say is I am awe struck by your metal shaping skills. The way you are able to shape, weld and manipulate sheet metal and make it look like it's a factory built piece is truly inspiring. My youngest son and I are currently working on a '70 Dodge Challenger that I purchased way back in 1990. We are having a hard time fabricating parts that go under the roof above the front windows and quarter glass where the drip rails are attached. These parts are so rusted that huge parts of the metal have completely rusted away and I don't know what shape they are supposed to have. Just wanted to let you know that your videos are helping us immensely in the restoration of this project. You have sincerely inspired me to up my game in my feeble attempt at metal working. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and expertise. Awesome and very informative video as always. Greetings from San Diego, Tx.

Trev, great welding, when butt welding sheet metal with a mig leave a gap between panels for better penetration. The weld, do to surface tension will leave an reinforcement on the rear of the panels. Give it a try.

hi , 6.5mm I find perfect for plug welds , totally agree with you on the 5mm , they wont let them be used in the states for racing. I also find that a copper backing strip clamped int place lets you use more amps without the burn through issue , but dont go round in circles , try going from one side to the other , and start at the sides where the lip is full , ie not the skinny bit where the hole is closest to the edge of the lip , , and one weave as you cross the centre of the hole . works really well as you can get into position to watch the weld pool move across trying to circle blocks your own view ... just food for thought. oh , and back your wire speed off a wee bit , and the results will change dramatically .

Hi Trev, Just spent most of the day researching Weld Through Primer and got side tracked with this. And what better way to get side tracked. I really enjoyed hearing your version of the Ron Covell story. really interesting and inspiring. I totally agree with your philosophy on living your life doing the creative things that put a "smile on ya dial" as opposed to worrying about things that may or may not ever happen. Live in the moment and enjoy life to the full. Anyway, after all that research I've decided that I don't need WTP on this particular job so I can now just crack on.......at least I have thought about it and isn't it the thought that counts? 🤣 Bye for now Paul (from 48-SPOKES)

Ron, your work is out of this world. It just felt like my heart melted when I saw the beauty of the air scoop at 46:45 I split my time among a number of interests, so I sometimes make something nice, but never museum quality. Refitting my near-salvage sailboat is at the top of my list, but I’d love to make an Art Deco custom, or a street rod out of a modern (but pre-2007) car.

Thanks Trev for this mini series. Just bought my first half decent mig, by coincidence, the very one I saw in the first part. My aim is to be able to repair parts for my vintage tractor and to build equipment I could never normally afford, for the farm . No art I'm afraid , talent is sadly lacking, I can admire your work but I have no imagination or flair so I'll stick to basics . I will still enjoy the process and the results which I guess is what counts. That said, I do find that I can watch you fabricating a part for the Bedford and a light goes on in my head which solves a really mundane question I have about a light fitting or the number plate holder as just two examples. Loved the piece on Ron Covell. Many thanks. Stay safe and hope to see the van at events when the madness is over. Lloyd.

Ron Covelle is a legend. I'd love a walk around with Ron and maybe the Brookville Roadster's place to see how they put their bodies together. I eventually assembled a '32 Ford Model B flat pack steel body which are stamped out from Reprosteel in Sweden but man that was hard and time consuming especially as it didn't come with A or B pillars or any kind of subframe and I was on my own so had to make jigs to hold everything together until I was happy with the placement. I also had to adapt the firewall to suit the motor I was putting in. If anybody thinks a kit car or any other flat pack body is going to fit straight out of the box they are seriously deluded lol Love the videos Trev, very enjoyable :)

Trev there's no need to use bigger holes for puddle welds...The very best way is TIG...fuse directly around the edge of the hole without using rod first, then fill up with rod. Aways use a pulse setting if you can to avoid un-necessary heat build up. If you only have access to MIG then the opposite technique works better. Start off by just building a puddle in the centre of the hole until it spills on to the edges of the hole.

Many years of sheet metal work, race cars mainly, you can't beat Unibit step drills. Not the cheapo Chinese junk, either Irwin / Hall . Unlike twist drill, you get a perfectly hole, and no pull through like ordinary twist drill do.Use a quality cutting paste, they last for ages.

Another very informative and entertaining vid, especially the Ron Covell story. Have you ever looked at “coldwarmotors”? Amongst other things, he is restoring a 1960 Plymouth Fury which had a totally rotten bottom half so he started by grafting the remaining good metal onto the floor and cowl of a 1960 Dodge Dart (same wheelbase in Canada) Some amazing panel fabrication going on so well worth a look. If nothing else you will like the music.
