Damn I used to drive a Subie Legacy 1999 on my working holidays in NZ but unfortunately had to sell it to a wrecker. Fortunately I was able to keep the Momo steering wheel and now I still have it on display in my flat in Germany. One time I tried to change the car radio and I still remember all the weird wiring. So many different color cables. Wasn’t able to find the right adapter though. Awesome video guys! Still get butterflies in my stomach every time I see a Legacy 😢❤️

Cameras for side and rear view projection, IR cams for nighttime animal sightings. IRadar to watch for speed traps, Auto diagnostics tie in for trouble shooting and optimization, even a docking station if you want to make the tablet removable. Very cool, thanks for the video.

I used a cheap Acer tablet. It has 32 GB, movies and stuff. Since is cheap, it doesn't have 4G or GPS, but it is enough for me. I will install later a OBDII bluetooth adapter to use torque.

Darren Madigan The previous experiment lasted all summer (Near the border of Texas and Mexico so is QUITE hot) and it was great. My car is a 3000GT1998, so the OBDII was at its early stages so some sensors are not available and the refresh rate for the speedometer isn't the best. Still, I got great fun with it. Now I have to check the power for the tablet because when is connected, noise fills the audio.

Ch1Frequency thanks so much for that. i do appreciate it. i live in the northern tropics of australia so temps can hit 40 fairly easily. not sure what that is in degrees F. think its about 110 with 80% humidity. was looking at those double din head units from china but an android tablet would be cheaper with this mod i think. take care D

I remember in my very old parents car we had a cassette player. Then it got so you could put a cassette in with an aux cable. Sure it use to crackle as soon as you turned the volume above 10 but it was the best thing since sliced bread at the time!

The bane of manufacturers as retro fitting extends the life of the vehicle and reduces new sales. That is why cars are now being "Big Brother" monitored by the car ECU for any components disturbed and require syncing (telling the Dealer) to reset and punish/deter you with a dealer charge.

It's not that hard if you have ever installed radios into cars before. I did this in my explorer but went a few steps further. I installed my iPad so It can be removed and also connected it to my rear headrest screens. The whole set up cost me about 300 including the iPad. They left out a few things you would need though. You will need a ground loop interface, to keep from hearing the humming while your driving and charging the iPad. You are going to need a program, or jail broken iPad so you can change sleep/wake up time, swipe commands, and short cut keys like 3 finger tap you pause music. I jail broke my iPad to remap the commands e.g, charging= wake and play, not charging when the key is removed=stop and lock. I mean it's really easy and fun. Just make sure you draw out your ideals so you know all the extra parts and pieces you will need. The whole job took me about 2 hours. I wish I could show you pictures. It looks pretty sweet.

He said in the video that the battery is blown, so it doesn't hold charge, meaning that when you turn on the car the iPad begins charging and turns on.. and when you turn the car off the iPad shuts off because the battery didn't hold any charge... it just runs on the power from the car battery

10:56 The iPad clearly isn't getting enough power from that 12v, as it shows "Not Charging" So depending on what you're doing the battery could die while the car is on.

As they stated in the video it had a busted battery and they were using that as a pro since it would power down when u turn the key off and turn on with the car. Even if the ipad wasnt charging it stays on because theres phantom voltage through the charger.

I had cassettes (tape drives) in my cars (all be it a few years ago now). I was even given an old working 8 track drive to install in my car, but decided against it. Now I just run Bluetooth to my Android phone or a USB Drive / SD Card loaded with my style of music (80's mainly). Just started looking at installing a 7" or 10" Android in my dash with engine diagnostics / real time engine stats as well as entertainment system. There are now Android & IOS apps for hooking up to the in car management computers of todays cars. Just realized this vid is from almost 6 years ago.... Mmmmm. Looks like I'm still behind the times! lol Love your vids guys. Subbed about 2 years ago. EDIT: Just checked into Android Car Multimedia Units. About $130AUD gets you everything in about a 6-7inch touch screen (including OBD support right out the box on some). Considering you can install any android app on them, its kinda hard to see the sense in doing the work to install the tablet unless you need something fast or larger (or your a hardcore apple guy who wont touch anything android).

Hey you guys, by far the BEST video on how to do this without needed a Bluetooth deck. I was just wondering how I would go about doing this I'd have subs? I have two kicker l7 15s. Was just wondering what to do with me needing 2 amps and how to do it with needing two amps

I had cassettes . Still got a box or 2 of them safely stored away from heat etc. And ,my wagon r+ has a stereo so old that it's got a slot for 'em but I use one of those adapters in the cassette hole . After watching this though , I might upgrade to an amp and tablet

i had a 94 intrepid and my brother had a 96 la sabre, both had cassette lol, even my mama's 01 intrepid had cassette and my 98 silverado which also had a cd player too.

Try using a diamond wheel for your dreamily. Buy a set in Lidl’s when on sale. They include 2. Very good for plastic and don’t shatter.

My first car in 2005 was a 1989 Nissan Pulsar had a cassette player already installed inside with a removable front plate so people would not steal the radio, did not stop them though...LOL T-Tops and a removable backhatch...that car was bad ass.

I still really want to keep my 12v socket as its far away from my head unit and i use it for a lot of things, is there anyway to split the existing one so i use one for the ipad and one back in its original place?

Should be fine depending on what else you run it with. The iPad should draw less than 1A. Just don't let your people see it or they might start a revolution.

ZelosZelo living in the desert 🏜 i installed fans from a pc hard drive and made them so they are solar powered so they run if the car is parked in the sun without it being turned on. Haven't had a problem since
