The way I would view migrating over is that the worst that can happen is no different to not migrating - that you receive nothing. If it's deemed you can receieve something then it's a matter for what the balance of the UC system is to your lives - the commitments. If deemed not worth it, you can stop the claim at any time. As someone living with health conditions, including arthritis and a spinal disease from being a teenager, I both empathise with the impact it can all have, but also appreciate how people who want to work and have worked often don't like to go down the PIP/fit note route, whether or not people suggest they should. That's a very personal thing to how people feel. Ultimately, I would give UC migration a go - you never know, maybe the Work Coach is decent, you do receive help and it's not that big a deal. As with many things, there will be good and bad experiences and, much of the time, the good ones aren't posted online and the bad ones can make it seem like they're the norm. I wish you all well, whatever you decide.

It's very true that all the cases I see seem to be doom and gloom, maybe it draws in more viewers, I don't know. Thank you for your advice and encouragement. Like you say we won't be any worse off if they turn it down than what we are if we don't claim. Thank you.

If you make a claim for UC it will ask about employment and self employed is one if u have your own bussiness thwn u could be entailed to somemoney back or to top up your earnings.

I don't think we could hit the amount they would want us to. It would be very stressful. We decided early retirement might be the better option. Thank you for watching and commenting, it's very much appreciated 😊

I've no idea what you should do, but do try for PIP. My cousin gets it after he was really ill with Covid. He has days when he can do things, and days when he can't. Don't ever feel reluctant to claim something you could be entitled to. But I do have an idea for another vlog. . . . window cleaning techniques and tips! That would be brilliant! (Sorry if you've already done that and I've not seen it 😬)

It's definitely complicated, and each thing has different rules and regulations. It makes me laugh how they said we have to apply as a couple, but then we get our own work coaches, interviewed separately and each have our own goals to achieve. It seems like we're actually regarded as single until it comes to paying us! 😂

Forgot to say, no I've not done a window cleaning vlog, and yes we could do one at some point soon. Thank you for the suggestion.

We had a letter about going over just before Christmas as tax credits were stopping in our area, worst part was having to wait 5-6 weeks without anything and going from weekly to monthly

Yes that's another downside because tax credits were weekly which I think is better.

Hi Maria, if it benefits you i would go on universal credit, you've both got a few years to go before you retire and it's a shame you have to use your savings. My friend had to pack in work through ill health, she retires this year, but she gets universal credit and pip. I applied for attendance allowance over a year ago, i didn't get it but all my problems got worse, i've also got problems from having covid. It's all on my files so i reapplied a few months ago and i got it, it's a big help.

It's a scary thing when you hear so many stories about it. I suppose if we were to go ahead and apply and we changed our mind then we could stop it. I wish it wasn't all so confusing! It's good they gave you the attendance allowance, it does all help.

When Gary first went on sick the benefits advice man said to us don't go on universal credit unless you absolutely have to. It can involve a lot of hassle from the job centre. Don't think you have a choice about switching to it now though they want everyone to I think x from Victoria x

I think it sounds like he needs a Pip claim. It’s worth a good try! I think if you are both under retirement age then you will both be made to look for work. Also they reduce it based on savings. I think they also reduce it based on pension income too.

I find it all very confusing. They certainly don't make it easy!

And people are right about sick notes and not having to job search for first year of starting a business. What a palaver it is though. They caused absolute hell for my mother in law to job search when she has Alzheimer’s because she wasn’t claiming pip. 😂

It sounds like you need to try and claim pip it not normal for thing like that to happen if he was fit and healthy.

He's had arthritis for a few years, but it got worse over time up to the point that his knees can now lock without any warning. It's no longer safe for him to climb ladders. Pip is so stressful to go through, although we do give it thought. I think if his legs got worse we might pursue it. Thank you for watching 😊
