Back in the early 2000s I was at little hole in the wall lunch spot outside Nashville and after getting my food in the cafeteria style line I searched for an empty able in the packed dining room. After wandering around for a minute or two a voice said "sit down right here, son". Low and behold it was Jerry Reid and the other guy sitting with us was Chet Atkins! I was so in awe and shook up I could barely keep my food on my fork. Both were friendly, kind, and gracious. I will NEVER forget that day.

As a radio dj for WCSL in Cherryville, NC I interviewed Jerry Reed in the 1980’s on his tour bus at The Palomino Club in Charlotte, NC. He gave a great interview even though he was hurting with an abcessed tooth. I asked him to record me a promo for WCSL, Cherryville. He said, “Maryville..?” I said, “CHERRYVILLE!” Jerry said, “ Hey, folks, this is Jerry Reed. You got the one Snowman remindin’ you to listen to The Bob Bigger Show on WCSL, Cherryville. I catch ya’ll on the flip flop! BYE!” He delivered a great performance and shared about recording his song “Guitar Man” with Elvis. What a talent. Guitarist, comedian, singer, composer, actor. Love Jerry in 2024? Forever! He gave us so much laughter and enjoyment. I’m glad I got to meet him and interview him.

I ain’t sure what it was or how it happened, but a couple months back I watched Smokey and the bandit for the first time. And ever since then, I found myself slowly getting more confident in ole western style, got me a cowboy hat one day and that was it from there. Jerry reed had the type of confidence I want, and I’m getting there. May 28th 2024 I turned 21, got off work at 6AM and went to a loves gas station, got me a 12 pack of coors, when I left I started blasting this song with the windows down and couldn’t help but smile. Thank you Jerry reed and Burt Reynolds for helping me find myself.

I'm an old urban, designer type guy in Toronto and I still sing (and try to play) this classic on a semi-regular basis. Jerry was probably the coolest guy of the 70's. Even more than Burt, which is saying something. And a beast of a guitarist, along with Glen Campbell and James Burton (Elvis's 70's guitarist) I've been a pro Elvis for 30 years. I did a cover of this song once in Elvis mode at a show and the crowd went crazy!

Love this song!!! My Dad drove 47 years Over The Road, and I'm a second generation driver myself. I grew up watching Moving On, Smokie And The Bandit, and BJ And The Bear. I've seen Jerry Reed in another Truck Driver movie, and of course I've also seen White Line Fever. I was raised in trucking, and am very proud of the history of truckers!!! I wouldn't be or do anything else,I love it, and been doing it for 34 years myself. I miss the good old days,of truck driver songs and movies,as well as the TV programs!!! Those were great times!!

🤣 today’s “country n’ western”. What a joke, just like the rest of the other genres today (mostly), complete garbage that copy the sound of what sells. Damn shame, but there are a few artists out there that don’t subscribe to the executive’s will. I guess I am just pissy that great stuff ain’t main stream anymore.

@@olhesty2196 On point 100%. Today it's about how much musically an artist can fit in with the status norm, and how fake and narcissistic they can be off stage. Nothing progressive or new in music will ever form out of that.

Back in 1976 (I think), my brother, another friend, myself were headed to Houston, TX. , and stopped at the Union 76 just before you get to Atlanta (I believe that's where the Best Buy is now). Anyhow, we got to see them film the scene where Jackie Gleason is in his car and it's jacked up and Burt Reynolds is at the gas pumps in that Firebird. If you look real close, there's a guy behind the window where they're talking to Jackie Gleason. That's my brother. He's wearing a tee shirt..
