I see people saying It was a hard interview to listen to. You have to understand some of these dudes have seen some serious shit. Lost close friends. So they don't come home the same. And especially hard to share pain. I commend him it couldn't be easy for him to share at all. And Mike is always great.

We are already in a big crash Inflation is a catastrophe. This CPI report is a colossal failure. To bring the housing market to a halt, the FED will have to pull all the stops. The unfortunate issue is that other markets are being decimated. If you want to stay green, you have to rely on a lot of diversification. Currently up 14% and being careful. Still a better deal than leaving it in a savings or checking account yielding 0-1 percent interest.

All these interviews, especially this one, should be stored in the Library of Congress for future generations. No BS Mike Ritland is performing a national service by documenting this information.

I was a Veterinary Officer in the army and I truly respected the dog handlers. The dogs were really tough guys.

Outstanding book, "No Ordinary Dog." I finished in two days, cried at the end. Then I had to watch podcast Mike, I wanted to see the love Will had for Cairo. Will's eyes lite up when you talk about any of the working dogs. I cannot thank all our armed service men, Seals and working dogs for what you have done or do now. Until you walk in that's person shoes, negative comments, (while we walk around in a free country) are ignorant. Seals are amazing and so are Malinois. Thank you for a great interview. Mike, This was such a fantastically moving interview and one of your very best to date. Though Will at times had a little trouble remembering some things, it sure sounds as though he's done so much to find his way back to being all he was before his injuries and I for one believe he's going to get there! Another great podcast, Mike. I've been trying to put my finger on why I love your podcast more than all the others. I listen to many of them while I'm working, but I never miss one of yours. I can only surmise is the fact you come across as genuine, you literally care about your guests, you care about the issues, you care about your teams, you care about your girls, your dogs, and your brothers and that authenticity comes across the table, across the Mic, and hits me right in the feels. As for your guest, I could hear his pain. As brave, as strong, as healthy as he is right now, his pain is still right beneath the surface. He's just as vital, heroic, amazing, and important as his dog. I will be sure to pick up this book as soon as I dry my eyes and wipe my nose.

Possibly one of the best interviewers I’ve heard. I don’t think any major network has a better one. Empathy and compassion, but also Mike could keep the pace of the interview up while being completely respectful to the person and subject material. Great job Mike!!!!

Will sounds like the typical Seal , shy and quiet around outsiders. But listening to your stories makes us try to understand what you do and give To keep us safe. I feel for you after action pain.

I started out listening to this and then had to switch to KZfaq so I could watch the body language. I was trying to understand if he was having a hard time remembering, a hard time with the memories or trying to figure out he could talk about and what he could not talk about. I see that it was all three. I am so impressed with how he kept going and working through the interview, and I love how you made him comfortable and worked with him.

Mr Chesney's account of the Bin Laden raid has been the most enjoyable for me. The helicopter ride home made me smile like I haven't in a long time. Thank you gentlemen.

Will - as a fellow warfighter - thanks for putting your entire being into the GWOT. I didnt work at your level at all - but rather served a small part as a regular ole 11b joe. I came back with a pretty crushed mind. But like you said - im trying different things, especially in the right context. And improving. We all hurt brother. Man that was heart wrenching hearing about the dog collapsing. Dogs have so much loyalty and honor they will charge into sure death with courage to serve their handlers. Very brave. What a good boy. I cant imagine how hard it is for will to tell and relive these stories. Must be hard.

I just finished the Audible version of the book and as tough as I tried to be through it, it still grabbed me by the heart strings. It was a wonderful story. Great podcast Mike and a big thank you for the service of Will Chesney...as a Civilian, IMO, it's absolutely essential for people like Will Chesney to the degree they can, tell their stories, we as a country we need heroes that regardless of age can look up to as an example of the greatness of this country...with a reasonable number of people in this country trying to tear it down, people like Will Chesney go a long way to not allowing that to happen...

He is a very quiet person and it shows. It’s a good thing. I don’t pity him, he has been through a lot but he survived it. And he survived getting out of the teams. That’s the hardest thing to survive. God bless you Will

Great interview Mike....Will seems like a very down to earth and humble guy. I love his quote "A dogs most valuable asset is his nose" this speaks volumes about Will. Our nation needs more men like you both. As a K9 handler/Trainer I am looking forward to reading Wills book.

"We got him. No one was killed. We all made it back." That's the holy trinity right there! I've been known to say that "life is so much about: chemistry, relationships and dog psychology". Several of Mike's excellent podcasts have exemplified that, but this one better than any that I remember. With any animal, it IS all predicated on the relationship. A spastic owner = a spastic animal (not only dogs). It's even true with cats ... being able to read their actions and reactions is a huge bonus to situational awareness when I'm gardening with earbuds in. When I tune out, they're my eyes and ears 100%. Mike, I've a question if you've time ... In my work, I was taught tactical breathing over a decade ago by a SEAL I worked with, so it's puzzling to me to hear guys on the teams since then NOT seem to know about it. I assumed that it was taught systematically. Since emotion and thought are inversely related, taking the extra second to see beyond your target requires slowing down the ANS in order to think clearly. The quickest way to slow down the ANS is to slow down the heart rate, and the quickest way to do that is to slow down your breathing. Is this just something that only one guy knew and taught to me? That seems highly unlikely! I validated it with science back then, and have since taught it to hundreds of people to great success over the years. If you've time, I'd really appreciate your take on this; thanks! God bless Will and all that he loves. It was painful to see his struggle; I hope that he knows that his willingness to illustrate that, alone, will help folks with TBI to recognize it. You're still serving Will by sharing your story. Thanks for that, and blessings to your parents for their sacrifices as well ... it's gotta be tough to live your struggle as you live it. No good deed goes unpunished (the definition of sacrifice). Respect for this interview. It's always very nice to hear more about UBL raid and the K9 role and the handler in the Seal teams and off course in other SOF units. I never herd a dumb question or stupid opinions from Mike. Respect for the guest also very intelligent and always on point maybe lil bit shy, but that doesn't metter. I don't know about other guys will be interested, but If you can invite operators like James Hatch also a dog handler from DEVGRU, Medal of Honor recepients Edward Byers and Britt Slabinski or Delta Rob Keller. Maybe they will share some interesting war stories. I know its tough right now with current situation. Its only a suggestion for the future.

What a wonderful interview. My dad was a scout dog handler in Vietnam 69-79. 101st Airborne 42nd ipsd. He walked point near the dmz for a year. While in nfo school at Ft Benning he saw the handlers training and volunteered. He knew he had a better chance of making it home with a dog by his side. He had 2 kia. Thor and Danny and turned Lux over to a new handler when he came home. A few years ago he learned Lux was turned over to the south vietnamese army at the end of the war. It really upset him because he knew the out come of that. Thank you both for your service.

I think I've been the most impacted by Will and DJ Shipley on Shawn Ryan Show. Insane careers and deployments aside- the balls to consent to and participate in these interviews and lay it all out is an incredible gift to us. How much more can we ask of these men and yet they continue to give and give. These recorded living histories and their honesty about the hard shit too will help and impact generations to come.
