carl reynolds his kits are ambidextrous. Pretty much anything he does with one hand or leg, he can do with the other. He’s crazy amazing

I saw Mike Mangini with Annihilator in 1993. One of the tightest metal concerts I've ever witnessed in my whole life...and I'm 56! 🤘😎

And, MP didn't graduate from Berklee, he and Petrucci + Myung found eachother on that college and they make the decision to leave the faculty without an degree and start a band. [majesty] Another fact; MM and MP are actually friends.

Mangini left teaching at Berklee to join DT. At the Orpheum in Boston during the Six Degrees tour MP invited MM to do a tandem drum solo on MPs huge kit.

Very talented. Double bass gives potential for left right balance. Mike shows incredible choices for left right hand foot surface tone of ambidextrous sticking. It seems ultra precise.

1986 - 1990 Dream Theater was formed in 1986 by guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung and drummer Mike Portnoy while they studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston The quintet named their band Majesty, on the recommendation of Mike Portnoy and inspired by his description of the outcome document of Rush Bastille Day. They left the school to devote themselves to their band.

Never, the band treated him like a 'replacement' not a true bandmate that can compose music together, anyway i think his thrashy style suit him better in a million years. Really hope he does another thrash metal project.

Good to see him grooving here, cos all ive seen from other mangini vids is pure speed. This video gives me more hope for hm in DT than i had before but ill be interested to see what he comes up with. Portnoys creativity is hard to beat.

I love how Mike played with Annihilator. Not necessarily because he’s so fast and precise, but because he knows when to only hit say one crash, when to to do Tom fills or snare fills, when to just hammer on a hi hat or china. There’s a lot of extreme metal drummers who overplay segments instead of keeping it simple.

Actually, MP graduated from Berklee and MM studied in computer science but he was the professor at Berklee. I think it's the time you have to accept MM as a great drummer.

The three founding members, MP, JM and JP were out of Berklee after their freshman year. Technically, they didn't graduate, but made a name for themselves after that
