19:44 The solo violin here was an excellent choice by Bedford as it matches the expressiveness Oldfield's guitar (at very high register) extremely well, and possibly even more beautiful which is a giant ask when comparing to Oldfield.

HOW CAN SOMEONE NOT ADORE SUCH A WONDERFUL AND PRECIOUS ORCHESTRAL CREATION MIKE OLDFIELD IS A GENIUS WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC OF THE SOUL...

Beautiful work is a sound poem of deep nostalgia, it takes me to the neighborhoods of Ñuñoa where I studied my high school in the late 70s. Greetings from Santiago de Chile. .... and thanks mrranMúsica for sharing.

Stunning. I love how it’s faithful to the flaws in the original. The opening is spot on. Not easy for an orchestra to play counter to their training. Mike cannot write music notation, so this is a damn fine tribute to a brilliant LP. Kudos all round.

This lends itself much, much better to orchestral versions than TB. This one is excellent. The footage is great, too. Thanks

It's a pleasure. Thanks also to Tony Staveacre who posted this first part... in two parts. I simply put them together as carefully as possible. Have a nice day!

Merci pour cette publication, thanks for posting. Cette version est magnifique, le final avec les choeurs tout particulièrement, et le petit tour de planeur va bien avec ce morceau.

My second lp ever! Rediscovered! Flowing with those sounds in the past is only a very superficial concept! Was much more, have not seen any relaunches tonight and maybe better not. But seriously this is very much ripe for a full HD relaunch not over doing not bombastic but solid grounded and clear, revealing history and kind of minimal approach, please!!!

23:04 is my favourite moment, it was already 43 years ago when Hergest Ridge was released on vinyl (which I still have). The climax is wonderful after this long buildup!

That bit gets me every time. Especially when I'm driving. Tears just flows down. I so much miss the 70s.

@@joshbrown588 I'm not sure I miss the 70s. Maybe some aspects like still being young. But hey, the music is still there!

It is. Your right. But some music hits a nerve which you can't control. But thanks for your comment. Another oldfield fan I take it?

Especially. Ommadawn. Another classic along with incantations. I manage to get maddy prior,the lead singer, to sign the vinyl for me at a steely span concert. Magic.

One of my favourite moments, if not, my favourite moment of Hergest Ridge is the electric guitar solo. In this video from 18:18. But that clarinet, or later, that violin couldn't match the expressivity and the power of the Mike Oldfield's electric guitar solo tone.
@georgesonm17742 жыл бұрын
true, it's also one of my favourite moments. And agree - Oldfield's sound could not be matched by another instrument

Either all instruments haven't been tuned, or they try to copy the feel of the original album, which doesn't work very well when performed with a full orchestra. The same mistake (but even worse) was made with The Orchestral Tubular Bells. I love Oldfield's music, but those orchestral performances are, well, bad.

Trouble with this digitised audio visual stuff is that the conducters right hand apears to be constantly out of sync with the notes the members of the orchestra are actually playing, y know, its enough to really piss any serious musician off, big time. Get my drift man ? Peace out.

Conductor has to be one beat ahead, that's what he's doing.
