There's something about vinyl that gives every record it's own unique tone. I love it.

As a classic rock enthusiast for decades, I am only now running into this song. On probably my 5th listen now. Like all my favorite music, it wasn't my favorite on first listen. Definitely growing on me. It communicates something... slowly. You gotta be patient to receive this communication.

Agree it takes some time to get in to it - it's not an instant easy listen in my opinion!

You don’t realize how delicately fine tuned the dynamic range of the into to “Tubular Bells” is until you listen to an overtly compressed modern remaster.

Hello Phil, I'm a HiFi listener of this era. Sound amazing, especially the dynamic range. Bring back so much great memory while I was mixing with those turntable. Amplified by class B 220W RMS amplifier fully 'Hot/Warm' to get the best (beta) out of the pnp-npn push-pull transistors. Could get 2-4 db of dynamic headroom... I'm a pioneer saying back then in1984 that a speaker power means nothing compare to full unclipped peak signal as long as it is clean. Could drive a hot 110W RMS in a 75W speakers. But boy, the dynamic result beat any full digital CD of today without damaging the speakers. What an experience it was with Rapture from Blondie. Could feel my torso shake at every beat of the drum. Keep on the good work :-)

This confirms my suspicions that on the Original pressing of Tubular Bells the lower frequencies were underrepresented. Presumably, when it was mastered the speakers they had, the speakers were way above the quality of even a good hifi and thus they were not hearing what we got. To make the original listenable I have to turn 40 hz and below up quite a bit, and below 20 hz even more so.

Hate to be that guy... is Side B uploaded? Also, what pressing is this? It doesn't look like my copy... maybe the labels were region specific or something. Awesome to hear it again, though. (ETA: Had been drinking when I posted the 'here'. Not tonight... *cracks a cold one*)

Way late, but that's deliberate on the part of Mr. Oldfield. He's fond of dissonance resolving into harmony.
