I absolutely love Legacy of Yu. I am realizing how much I love resource management type games and the puzzle it offers just hits my brain in the perfect way. Great list and thanks for sharing.

I’ve been smashing out lots of plays of Heat. The bot system in that game is so fun & easy, really makes the game a joy to play solo

Your list reminds me of how great a year it was for solo. Have you tried the solo expansion for Arnak? I thought that was very well done.

Nice List, Mike... I am playing Galaktik and Black Roses almost every day... addicting games! Legacy of Yu is truly my No1 of the year. Won 4 and lost 4 Games... it's going to be a big challenge.

Awesome list! Many games that weren’t on my radar. I have ti agree with Legacy of Yu. It’s a masterpiece. Easy rules, small box, small footprint, and that’s not even the gameplay, which is so smooth and full of tense moments.

Thank you for your list, Mike! Skoventyr is a delightful puzzle and a wonderful presentation. I am continually surprised by the praise given to Cyberion by Zee and you. I found the game to be way too easy (and I have explored expansions and combinations of expansions). The expansions unfortunately don't alter the base game strategy of focusing on building up the Sirenbot and Stockbot abilities. (I also apparently enjoyed Stellarion more than you guys - I think that one is a tight puzzle 😜)

waypoint is my top solo game of 2023. its a print and play where you walk a hike with a sort of setcolection scoring

Thanks Mike, not a list I was expecting, surprisingly light. Personally thought it was only an okay year for solo gaming, but I like heavier games. So Nucleum and Voidfall saved the year for me. Then maybe Expeditions, Apiary and Heat. There's always next year!

Fun fact: Skoventyr is a combination of the words Skov (forest) and Eventyr (adventure) :) All the weird names of the creatures and stuff is also Danish words.

Okay, 20 Strong actually looks like something novel here, akin to Final girl where it's a system, and the expansions are their own game using said system. Might be the only Chip Theory game i could afford 😅

Hey Mike! Any reasons why Expeditions is missing on your lists this year? I know a lot of people claim it’s a bit of a let down compared to Scythe but I actually really like it and even more so the solo variant as it’s a lot more streamlined then the Scythe automa.

Expeditions was the hardest one to keep off of the list. It’s a fantastic solo game and would absolutely be my #11.

For Trailblazers, I see there are several editions: travel, pocket, standard, deluxe. What is the difference between them for the solo mode?

I guess these are good games cuz Mike says so but dang if a few are near impossible to find...For One Galaktrik, Trailblazers Deluxe, 20 Strong. Those were the ones that interested me but no luck finding 'em. Patience isnt my virtue!

My favorite solo games this year were actually two that have VERY DIFFERENT table space. Mr.President. It is crazy how streamlined that game is for being so big and seemingly complex. Cyberion has immediately jumped to the top 3 of the oniverse series. I was VERY impressed with the interesting and enjoyable gameplay.

Not my kind of list this year from Mike unfortunately. Oh well, I found a couple great new ones from 2023 but also a bunch of great new to me games. Keep on soloing!
