Because he knew Lennox and what he was capable of. They actually knew each other since being teenage amateurs. Lennox was being shipped around training for the Olympics and both were just too much for their sparring partners so he ended up sparring with Tyson in Cus's gym. Afterwards, according to Tyson, Cus told him something along the lines of "You're gonna have to fight that guy for real one day".

The Mike Tyson you know and love only beat jobbers and was overhyped and well marketed - Mike Tyson’s Punchout! Tyson lost to Buster Douglas. He definitely would have lost to Holyfield, Bowe or Lennox which is why he ducked them.

@@Drummer8282I’m a boxing fan and while I agree with your list, Lennox ducked Tyson because Lennox could’ve forced Mike to fight him since it was Lennox choice to accept the money or make Tyson fight. Also Tyson didn’t fight just jobbers, he fought a couple of fighters who were undefeated and hurt them so bad he ended their careers early. As much as I think Lennox would’ve beaten Tyson in his prime, it’s been well documented that Lennox was scared of Tyson since golden gloves. I even think George Foreman could’ve beaten Tyson. lol.

@@Drummer8282 lol Lennox loss to Oliver McCall 2nd Round Knocked Out and Hasim Rahum knocked him out in the 5th. Both were nowhere near a prime Tyson. Mike Tyson in his prime (early 20's) was the most well rounded, fast, powerful and precise boxer in the History Boxing and people who deny it are absolutely delusional. @@Snide01 Anything is possible but not likely. Tyson didn't fight legendary boxers until his decline after cuss died. He wouldn't stand a chance against Sugar Ray Robinson, Riddick Bowe, Ali, or George Foreman. Tyson is a legend and is great but he didn't go the distance like these fellows to show strength and toughness to fight as long or as many other legendary fighters. Tyson doesn't have that kind of record or talent to back up your claims. You might want to consider yourself a Tyson fan at this point and not a boxing fan.

From nothing, to get the belt before he could legally drink, lost it all, then came back around and open about his flaws and his work to overcome those. Its the personification of the American ideal. No he isn’t, he’s not better than Ali, he’s not better than Foreman, and he’s definitely not better than prime Tyson. The Tyson that found Lennox Lewis was high on weed, cocaine, he barely had any sleep, and he had been neglecting his training for a long time. 20-22 year old Tyson would’ve 100% won that fight.
@tron1007r
@tron1007r 22 күн бұрын
@unknownplite I love when you guys believe in people more than they believe in themselves. It's cute. It's like suspension of disbelief. Tyson said with his own mouth he has never been a match for Lennox. Even at 16 years old. Cuss, his trainer, agreed, he was the one who sponsored the week long training camp. It matters not. What matters is, you support, a cocaine user, a wife beater, a rapist (maybe even though he was convicted, maybe he was lied on), an ear biter, with no real honor in the sport over a guy with a better record, why because he wasn't American? I actually like Tyson, but come on... I see why everyone bandwagons Ali. Tyson has shown he is a complete nut case, like Trump, but he is still loved by so many... I just don't get. The facts are... Lennox has a better record. It can not be changed.
@unknownplite
@unknownplite 22 күн бұрын
@@tron1007r I don’t support who he was in the 90’s or the early 2000’s. He was surrounded by bad people. I don’t believe he was ever a rapist or a wife beater. The judge himself said he wouldn’t have convicted him after learning more about the case. His wife was just after his money. But that doesn’t matter. I support who he was in the 80’s, and who he is now. Lewis is definitely one of the greatest fighters of all time, but I still don’t think he would beat Tyson in his prime. The Tyson that he fought was a completely different fighter. It had been a decade and a half since had really focused on fighting like he did in his prime. He lost almost all of his technique, his power, everything. He was also on a lot of drugs, and was dealing with numerous personal issues at the time. He was in no shape to fight. You just can’t compare those two versions of Tyson. I’m not saying any of this out of lack of respect for Lewis, or respect for the version of Tyson that fought Lewis. I just simply believe that Lennox Lewis is not the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time, and that Mike Tyson at 22 years old would have beaten him.

@unknownplite Quick question, why would big and bad in his prime Mike Tyson pay Lennox Lewis 4 million dollars in 1996 to get Lewis to step aside? Then right after that he dropped the WBC belt anyway. REASON: He knew he could not beat Lewis. Check the KZfaq video The 4 million step aside deal. Do some research before you suck on Tyson's nipple. Tyson couldn't kill Razor like Lewis did and everyone understood that.

Not prime Tyson unfortunately and the fact they had been sparring partners meant Lewis knew exactly what to do

Tyson was exciting to watch with power and skills in his younger years,,, it all started to go pear-shaped when he left Rooney,,,,it's always funny to read posts saying about Tysons prime ,,, they never say what years we're his prime or the best opponents he beat in his prime,,,,realistically he was beaten in his prime and when he fought decent opponents he lost,,,, his best wins were against Ruddock

Look, all respect to Mike but cmon, Lennox is 7 inches taller than Mike and 50 If not more pounds heavier... There should be a weight category for this.

I agree this is a problem but in the other hand some guys will never fight anybody and that's also a big problem, I don't know if there's a solution. Imagine Tyson Fury, he never fights despite having so many opponents available, imagine if he could only fight the guys over 115kg he would have fought only once in his entire career 😆

Mike tyson took it very well. Shame what don king and robin givens did to him. It no doubt had an impact on his training and mindset.
