This was a fight from 1990, watch Tyson footage from 1985 and see how disciplined he was in those early years. By the time he fought Buster Douglas, Tyson had slowly abandoned the things that made him so dominant and was just relying on his power. Had Cus D'Amato not passed away in 1985 and Tyson hadn't fired Kevin Rooney in 1988 and they had worked with him his entire career, Tyson would likely have held the title and remained undefeated for much longer, possibly even retired as an undefeated champion.

I honestly think a lot of it was just aging too. I mean he was still young here, like 23-24, but there's still a difference between being 23-24 and being 19-20, when Mike was on the come-up. When I was 23-24 i felt great. When i was 19 i swear i was damn near invincible lol.

@@donjohnson3888I find it hard to believe that Tyson's legs started going at this early stage. We would expect them to hold out to at least his late 20s. Changing trainers, and too many distractions outside the ring I imagine was what was going on at this stage. After prison release is different, he was slipping by the minute.

Tyson is overrated. He lost against all the ATG he fought
@skotiskiller
@skotiskiller Жыл бұрын
@@haroldlujahmuzik213 Of course and i can't beat an elite professional boxer that is 30 kilograms more than me and who is training and competing in the highest level since he was 13 years old. I am just stating the FACT that he is overrated and you are proving me right by your comment. "If Cus dont die he don't lose" is the definition of asinine statement. Mike Tyson had a very physically demanding style of boxing that required huge amounts of athleticism and energy that only a very young athlete could have but it is extremely effective especially against less experienced boxers. This is why he was devastating in the early part of his career when he was facing low competition or immature boxers but when he entered the latter part and was starting fighting elite and experienced boxers 1) he couldn't continue fighting with the same extremely physically demanding way 2) his opponents were experienced enough to know how to neutralize it The result was that on one hand he lost all his latter important fights and on the other hand ironically he has the record for the youngest heavyweight champion of all time. You will start and recognize the patterns when you look for the previous holder of the record (Floyd Patterson) who under the same coach (Cus) won the same record but also lost against many all time greats.
@skotiskiller
@skotiskiller Жыл бұрын
@@haroldlujahmuzik213 Concluding Cus could train pocket size heavyweights to be very effective against low competition and while they are still young but this recipe could get them only there. The classic heavyweight champions that reach their primes in their middle thirties like Lennox Lewis ,Evander Holyfield, Muhammad Ali, Sonny Liston etc could beat them fairly easy. Once again i am not calling him overrated comparing him with me or an average boxer but comparing him to the best of the best cause some ignorant people think he is the best heavyweight of all times.

One of the reasons Tyson was able to get so much power in his shots is he went with the momentum of them. Its hard to explain but Ali and other boxers just throw shots from their stance but Tyson throws them from whatever direction his weight is going into. This allows you to throw harder without using as much energy to do it.

If you watch the way young George Foreman would hit guys it’s similar but different. Yeah but the disadvantage is that you’re moving more, spending more energy for both the punches and the movement needed to change body position onto the next punch. That’s why boxers like Ali didn’t use this style, I think.

It's amazing how much Tyson's style changed over the years. This is more chasing and jabbing than I'm used to seeing from him.

By the time Tillman spat out his mouth guard he'd already decided to stay down. Very wise thinking!

Mike defied that traditional style of boxing with the standing on your toes dancing footwork, leading with the jab and the stick and move. Very much used by his opponent in this fight. Mike stood flat footed and just came forward closing the distance directly while throwing multi-level sledgehammers.

Tyson's right hand KO's against Johnson, Botha and this one against Tillman were the hardest of his career. he put his entire body weight behind those shots, and I wouln't know how to rank those 3 in terms of hardest shot.

Heres a fact that most people don't know Henry Tillman defeated Mike Tyson as an amateur, winning both bouts via close decisions. Tillman went on to win heavyweight gold at the Los Angeles Olympics against highly touted Canadian boxer Willie DeWitt, considered the world's #1 amateur heavyweight by the AIBA in 1984[3] (to whom he lost in 1988 in professionals.)
