We really appreciate the time you take to explain different implement’s Mike, we can all see the pressure you under to get the crops in the bins and there must be times you think to yourself is this KZfaq worth the effort, well I’m saying it is worth it, great content from a great guy on great machines 👌👌👌👌

My thought on canola is that I would rather have it a bit dirty. They are going to take dockage anyway, plus if it's too clean it is blowing canola out the back. Enjoy your video's, take care Mike!

You want a little chaff in canola, if it's too clean it's going out the back, anyway with my experience. The sample you showed was actually perfect...in my opinion. Have a great harvest

💯 everyone that swathed canola where we farm were combining 2 weeks earlier then standing. From who I've talked to yield differences were close to the same.

Many years ago operating a friend's older style combine in a low lying river bottom field on a SUPER DUSTY night with no wind thus next to NO VISIBILITY I got turned around and found myself combining the field perpendicular to the swath. I could tell by the sound of the combine with it thrashing & then not thrashing that something just wasn't right but even with standing on the stairs cat walk as I progressed across the field I could NOT SEE A THING. Finally my friend appeared out of no where climbing up the combine ladder to inform me what to heck I was doing. I finally got the combine aimed in the correct direction but eventually had to quit for the night because the poor visibility even got worse. It took me many years to live that crazy night down. 😂🤣

Oh Mike, that's the way we used to respond to 911 calls before the cad systems, it was that or Platte Maps, and our PSA had 5 or 6 books. It's like putting a 1,500 jigsaw puzzle together when your lights and sirens. The Comm's 911 specialists would say go to Johnson's farm, there's a downed oak tree take a left, you'll see the Louwagies red barn, but go past another two miles, it's on the left. if your really fortunate, they're telling you red barn in a blinding snowstorm or ice storm where you don't really see the colors. That all changed, now days they don't go into most calls unless law enforcement on scene for a lot of calls. Everything's GPS on a cad system and pin points where everyone is and direction they're coming from. when you said the two or three dips and there's water in one, I knew I had to explain. now it's a joke and yes we still carry our Platte Maps, just in case the systems crash.lol

How do you decide which varieties to plant and is there a price differential by variety?
@Mike-is8qc
@Mike-is8qc Жыл бұрын
Definitely a big price difference between varieties. You can also pick whether or not you want different treating packages on your seed for a cost of course. What we do is pick some canola varieties that are different stages. Generally a later maturing variety will yield higher but has more risk to weather.

Do you grow pod shatter resistant? I use to combine like the way you say. Shatter resistant has been a completely different animal for us. Higher rotor speeds. Close the concave up some and giver more wind.

Hey mike, I wouldn't recommend running your hand along the compression rods like that. If you every do that and come accross one that has a damaged surface, the fiberglass shrapnel that can go into your hand does not like to come back out because of it inherent jagged edges. Just sayin from experience.
