This tutorial will show you how to create and animate a puppet using an orange graphic in Adobe Character Animator 2023.

How To Create A Simple Puppet (Orange) in Character Animator:
1. Open Character Animator
2. Click on Home Icon
3. Click on ‘Chad’ Puppet
4. Download Photoshop version (or Illustrator if you prefer)
5. Look for ’Chad’ puppet in the Project Panel
6. Right-click and select ‘Edit Original’ (or use Cmd/Ctrl + E)
7. Chad puppet will open in Photoshop
8. Locate the Face Background layer
9. Replace with the orange or any other object
10. Line up the face on the object
11. Save in Photoshop (Cmd/Ctrl + S)
12. Puppet will update in Character Animator
13. Have fun!

Thanks for the feedback! I plan to do a lot more with Character Animator. It’s so fun and lots of ways to use it in content creation! What do you want to use Character Animator for?

@@MikeMurphyCo Mainly to animate characters for video collages and two produce animations for eLearning/Online Courses. Regarding the latter, I am also interested in using Adobe Animate for non-character animations.

I created the voiceover in Character Animator through my microphone while controlling the movement of character through video/camera. 👍

Mikkkkeee. Mike we need your help mike. I saw this done with a apple but what if you want to add realistic items like eyes for example. Would i have to draw the eye open and close or in between actions as well? Also could this technique be used to make something like the puff ball thats on Be Amazed channel? Its a little white puff ball that comes across screen with 6 different Animations.

You can make anything a puppet. In the tutorial I used Chad because it’s simple, but with any puppet you can just replace the layers with anything. The naming of the layers matters, so if you want to replace the eyes from a template with eyes that you hand-draw, just create a new layer and name the layer the same and keep it in the same place. 👍

Yes. You can customize however you want in Photoshop. You will want to o keep the layer names and organization the same for best results. 👍

@@EmreLism You can make just about anything a puppet in Character Animator, but you’ll have to ‘Rig It’ in Photoshop or Illustrator. Starting with one of the pre-built puppets is usually the easiest way to start since everything is set up and labeled correctly and you just have to replace the parts with your graphic. The channel I shared with you does a great job explaining how to rig a character. 👍

Yes, but you just need to rig it and name the layers so it works with Character Animator. One of the easiest ways to add a custom character is to start with one of the free puppets and just replace the Photoshop or Illustrator layers with your own custom puppet artwork. @@storiesworldtamil The Chad puppet is in 'Pro' mode. If you are not seeing Chad then you are likely in 'Starter' Mode. On the Home Screen of Character Animator above all of the Puppet Thumbnails, click on the box 'Switch To Pro' or look in the top-right corner and you will see 'Starter'. Click on 'Starter' and in the pop-out box , click on the button 'Use Pro'.
