Very cool to listen to you two who are so far along on the Path of the Beam! I’m far from being able to call myself a Constant Reader, but Dark Tower thus far has won me over, and I’ll be reading more King once I finish it.

Shouldn't you read ''Salem's Lot' before Dark Tower 5, if it contains major spoilers for ''Salem's Lot'? Would be a pity if one of King's canonical works gets spoiled for you. Don't tell anyone, but I have not read 'Salem's Lot' 🙈

@@NamasteBbooktube Ha ha! I’m seriously considering reading Salem’s Lot before DT 5. I really want to finish DT, though, so we’ll see, and I also tend to not care about most spoilers, so I doubt Salem’s Lot would be ruined for me if I pick it up later. And don’t worry - your secret is safe with me! 😁

I've been a King fan since I was about 10, but for years, I avoided the Dark Tower books. I just didn't know what the hype was. I remained that way until I read the Low Men in Yellow Coats in Hearts in Atlantis that I finally decided to read it. But I still waited another 5 or 6 years before actually starting it. It was a done deal then, especially when I got to The Drawing of the Three. Thanks doing this. Long days and pleasant nights.

I can’t find the IT mini series anywhere now. I had it on VHS years back. I thought the 2nd of the modern movies was better than the first, the flashbacks filled in a lot of the holes from the first film and the adult actors were generally well cast. Wish they went for 50’s and 80’s instead of 80’s and 2010’s

Palaver: emphasis on second syllable. Enjoyed your video
@MrArachnophobe
@MrArachnophobe Жыл бұрын
‘Palaver’ has the accent on the 2nd syllable. This interpretation is based on watching the endless flood of Cowboy western movies as a kid back in the 60’s, and I would notice that word specifically as it seemed strange to me. But it was always pronounced the same way - accent on 2nd syllable. For what it’s worth.

Not as bad as me when I first read the first Harry Potter book when I was around 11. I pronounced Hernione “Her-me-on”. Wasn’t until I discussed the book with an adult and heard them say it right that I was like “oh god I sound like an idiot!” 😆 didn’t admit it out of embarrassment, just casually changed my pronunciation

Y'know, I'm surprised that Jaime has never done a Hail to the King episode on the "Lost" TV series. I think it's the closest thing we've ever gotten (and will probably ever get) to seeing The Dark Tower properly made. Its got Ka, it's got time travel and world-jumping, its got its own "19" phenomenon just with a different number, its got a character called the Man in Black, its got "Jack" and "Sawyer" instead of "Jack Sawyer", its got an island as a nexus instead of a tower as a nexus. Symbolic parallels galore. Get cracking, Jaime.

100% Lisey's Story is so much better as a visual series. In terms of length for IT and THE STAND, I think there is only 60,000 difference in word count, 440,000 Vrs 500,000 uncut Stand. Season 2 of CastleRock is outstanding in my opinion. In a way Andy Dufrain returns to Shawshank, indirectly at least.

Why is Stephen King not bigger on BookTube? This is a good question. I think there are several reasons for this. 1. His best work was done years before anything like BookTube would be around. 1. This is no insult to the man and he has done many fine works since the 80s but like everyone else, he has a heyday. 2. He already had a multimedia presence before social media came out. We heard via his own interviews the interpretation of his works. We saw him in the films. Simply put, BookTube and other social media are tools for exposure that suit desperate, new authors. 3. His style leaves something to be desired for certain people. Even I had to get used to the way he writes, especially the information dumps he does about various characters. Not to mention, and I know some people debate this, he is a horror author, and therefore he is going to have a limited appeal among certain BookTubers. 4. BookTube seems to be made for extremes. It seems to work its best when it is documenting the rise of obscure authors just getting niche followings or emphasizing older authors who might not be well known to the current generation that utilizes BookTube. On one end of that spectrum, you have Christi DeMeeter and Cameron Cheney, and on the other end, you have authors no longer known or for that matter no longer with us such as Kit Reed. 19. Yes, I jumped numbers, so many people already know his more famous works. If you just read Pet Semetery, everyone knows how that ends. Less people know the ending of the latest Alma Katsu book.

I didn't read anything by King until I was 30. Started with Dark Tower, 'Salem's Lot, then IT, then The Stand. Finally checked my Amazon purchase history to confirm the order lmao. Jaime's theory on the attention span is very interesting, because I've been reading significantly more for the last few years BECAUSE I feel like I don't have the attention span to watch something new on TV. If I try to watch something new on TV, odds are within 5 or 10 minutes I'll be picking up a book to read and not paying attention to it. That's why if I watch something, it's probably something I've already seen before, as if I've already seen it it doesn't matter if I don't give it my full attention.

Mike, Black House (in my opinion) is superior to The Talisman. It’s straight horror. Very dark and disturbing. NO RICHARD (thank God). Also, it has one of King’s best characters of all time (no kidding). Henry Leyden. I think it’s easily one of King’s most underrated books.

Insomnia is a Dark Tower world builder. Stephen King doesn't seem to consider it canon (at least, he dislikes the book), but I think Insomnia brings in some of the best DT lore. I can't go into more details as you haven't read the rest of the series yet.
