Today we deal with claim #2, "It's not a sin to be gay."
I hope I can help us to think a bit more deeply about this.

That is true. Modern culture is all about indulging the flesh. It encourages indulging in anything that doesn't directly "harm" others in a physical sense, fights to take away the natural and societal consequences for bad judgment and immoral behavior, and reacts with rage and horror at anyone who stands up and says "No! This is wrong!" to actions it condones.

Agree with this 100%! The only risk is that Christians habitually seem to oppress even the discussion of such things with someone who is struggling. The best work I've ever seen God do in someone like this was a man who got nowhere in a church setting, but was 'allowed', for lack of a better term, to voice what he was dealing with several Christians he could be real with. That meant hearing him say things like 'God help me' as he shook his head passing by a guy he found attractive, sharing his joy at small victories, and allowing him to work it out without everyone being an enemy to him instead of just an enemy to his sin. Such things which would be shunned in a traditional church setting. This, I think, is the liberation Christians are looking for, but aren't offered in what we call church. That man fully rejected the sin that presented itself in his mind, but being able to be fully open about his struggle gained him allies he would have otherwise had to forfeit.

Delivered from homosexuality and filled with the joy of the Lord!! You must grasp the concept of laying it ALL down, sexual desires included, at the feet of Jesus. I was inspired by Paul. He was beaten, stoned, and tormented for the sake of the gospel. I was reading these things about Paul and asked myself why is your sexual desires more important than your obedience to the word? Paul gave it all for the kingdom and you let carnal desires overtake you? I’m so free now. Thank you Jesus.

Y’all made a great point in saying that it depends on what you mean by “gay”. I’ve read comments on other videos from people who were mistreated in church because they’re a man who likes the color pink, a woman who’s a mechanic, and so on. We, as Christians, need to remember that just because somebody’s interested in something that’s *considered* manly or girly, doesn’t make them gay. If they’re attracted to, and acting on those feelings toward the same sex, or if they believe that they were born in the wrong body and are actually trying to behave like the opposite gender, that’s another story. Just thought I’d expound a little more on the subject. I hope it helped somebody

"If the Bible says something's a sin, there's no changing it" Unless it's been mistranslated or misunderstood. Or unless the idea of sin it's self is misunderstood. There's a lot of room for error here. "Christianity is not oppressing to the person, but the person's flesh" You should be careful with that concept. Remember that non-believers aren't convinced there is anything magic behind them, to them, regardless how rightous you feel, it's still oppression in all of it's dirtiness.

The extra layer I would add on top is that a pattern of temptation does not make an identity. This single truth has given me so much power to live in true freedom as a man who finds himself predominantly attracted to men but at a far less frequency than I used to be. It's not an identity, just like "alcoholic" is no longer an identity for someone who has stopped drinking altogether but is still tempted. Being sold out for the kingdom while walking in single celibacy is way more satisfying than anyone who hasn't walked it out would lead you to believe.

I think there's misdirection here. Jesus said if you look at a woman lustfully it's the same as committing adultery... and adultery is sin. And we all are guilty. The issue is not whether gay people commit sin by acting out. They do and thinking about it or fantasizing are the same thing. We are sinners saved by grace. Sanctification happens by correcting behavior and by taking every thought captive. We endure and continually apply the blood. God promises if we do that He will wash us. And by washing us He makes the temple ready.

To be tempted isn't sinful. Jesus was tempted. It's whether you allow those thoughts to nest (aka lust after), become fantasy and/or subsequently physically manifest that it becomes sinful. @@danielhaywood9695 I think we sin without knowing or trying. The Garden story is the story of the birth of self and ego. Isaiah 64:6 say, '6All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.' We don't understand the Holiness of God...we don't understand the depth of our depravity and we cannot compare Christ's temptation to our sin. Jesus never lusted...He was confronted by satan himself and offered tests. To say He was tempted like that as we are is to make Him something He cannot be and still be the Lamb of God. No...His illustration regarding lust is to show us how desperately lost we are that even our thoughts betray us. And we are confused because we've never known purity and innocence. There is no 'fine line'. We rest in His grace and mercy.

Part 1/4 So I'm going to do my best to be kind and loving to these believers because I do believe they mean well. The problem I have over this topic is we have 21st century Bible teachers trying to deal with a topic written about in the context of the First Century and prior cultures. We often define the Bible by our modern vocabulary and can create some strange beliefs and contradictory beliefs as well. We read the Bible as if it was written for our culture and many, many times we screw it up. 2 Timothy 4 says 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. I will attempt to show why many of us believe in fables and we only listen to teachers who tickle our ears. First, we need to define SIN. What is it and why is SIN, SIN? Second, we need to put all context of being Gay or (homosexual behavior) in its proper context. For example, I have heard for many years that God used the Flood to destroy humanity (except for Noah and his family) because of the SIN and immorality (often focused on homosexuality) "as in the days of Noah and Lot" as the reason for the flood. And that God destroyed Sodom because of Homosexuality. This is all false, but it doesn’t fit our traditions so we reject an understanding that says these assumptions are false. 3rd we need to distinguish between "us" and the culture/society 4th We really need to examine ourselves as the real "sinners against God" in our world today. This may be long but I hope it causes us to think and ponder what do we believe as a tradition vs, what does the Bible actually say? There are a few things we need to agree on that I can't go into in this post. First, that God is Eternal and all-knowing and that regardless of what I or anyone else says He is ONE who has the final say. There is nothing we can do or say that will change God's plans for history. We are here to learn about God and His ways not define our own beliefs. I hear many Believers argue and bicker about many topics. Is Salvation permanent? Is Once Saved always Saved true? Are we living in the last days/end times? If so is the Rapture pre, mid, or post,? Homosexuality and other sins, and what are they? I think we need to take a hard look at what we think the Bible says and what it actually says. God has warned us about the last days Church and what it looks like and the Bible doesn’t speak highly of it and I think we need to take what it says to heart. We need to ask are we the ones it is talking about? SIN whatever the definition is between God and humanity. We as believers through the Holy Spirit are made aware of SIN as it pertains to God. 1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. When we discuss this topic about our culture I think we have ignored the Bible by applying the Bible to our culture and the message to the unbeliever. So how are we supposed to handle the Homosexual question? I don’t think we can easily narrow down to this one topic without understanding some greater Bible teachings. The Bible often warns us about our actions towards others and it has a warning for us as the Church. 1 Timothy 4 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, 3 who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth. If you think this isn’t about you then chances are it is. We need to be careful as we have many traditions and false beliefs, some are harmless and some are dangerous. For example, many think that in the Garden of Eden Eve ate an apple. The Bible says fruit, there is no mention of an apple. Many think there were 3 wise men. There were 3 gifts: Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh but no mention as to how many wise men there were. These are fairly harmless but what we are talking about is far more dangerous. Misconception: Sin is about morality. SIN IS NOT about morality. SIN is NOT a choice. We CANNOT conquer SIN. So what is SIN? SIN is what we do that results in death whether it’s physical, emotional, or spiritual death to ourselves or to others. And it’s a SIN against God because God wants s to live. Genesis 2- 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat[d] of it you shall surely die.” Then we read about the interaction between Eve and the Serpent Genesis 3:1-2 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You[a] shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” Then the Serpent says in Genesis 3- 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” We often read this as the decision to disobey God that was the SIN. So we believe that if we disobey God, we SIN. Then we try to determine what is disobedience and what is obedience and we get all screwed up. Then Jesus comes along and says 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” If you listen to Christians today even in this video does this sound like Jesus? You have a SIN nature-Homosexuality and it’s ok to have that nature because your human but if you give in to it then your sinful. Sounds easy enough coming from a straight person. This flawed thinking is how we have screwed up the gospel. Christianity today, for the most part, seems to be a religion of death, not of hope and the Bible tells us that it is to be this way during these final days of the Church Age for God’s purpose. SIN isn’t disobedience per se. SIN is what we do that brings death. Through Adam and Eve’s choice (SIN) death entered the world. What Adam and Eve chose brought death that’s why it was a SIN. God said if you eat you will die. It’s not the eating part it’s the eating and dying part. We became both spiritually and physically dead. Since God is life and His desire is that we live when our choices bring death we disobey God.

As someone who has struggled with this sin but also grew up in a Christian home, I was so conflicted by the question “is it a sin to be gay?” And it took me so long to make the distinction that you make of “well it depends what you mean by gay.” Because it’s not like there is a black and white answer. There are multiple options/ beliefs and some are wrong and some not. It’s kind of a scale. 1.) it is wrong to think, act, or identify as gay. 2.) it is okay to be attracted to the same sex as long as you don’t identify as gay or act on it 3.) it is okay to identify as gay, but wrong to act it out 4.) it is okay to identify as gay and act it out. Overall, Christ tells us that in order to save our life, we must lose it.

People might not be "born" that way but there is no mistake that they realize they are that way when they hit puberty and the hormones start pumping. It would only make God a liar if he said it was wrong. Which I don't believe he does. The Bible does not contain any statement like "all same-sex relationships are inherently wrong". Putting it another way, let's assume God says it's wrong. But people really cannot help who they're attracted to. They then get told it's wrong so they try to "repent". By and large, they fail to change. Doesn't that then disprove your assumption?

Well, in a sense, I guess we are all “born that way.” As it is written, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.” (Psalm 51:5) Yet we don’t have to remain “born that way.” We are called for something greater and have a message of hope by becoming reborn and adopted as children of God instead of children destined for wrath because “to all who believed [Jesus] and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn-not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.” (John 1:12-13)

@@MusicalRaichu “The Bible does not contain any statement like ‘all same-sex relationships are inherently wrong’.” What are your thoughts on this then? “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.” (Romans 1:26-27)

@@mechadoggy Yes I've read that carefully, even as best I can in the original, which actually highlights some subtle issues with the translation you've quoted. In answer to your question, saying that some people (idolatrous gentile males) engaged in shameful same-secs acts is not the same thing as saying all same-secs acts are shameful let alone sinful. That would be like taking what Paul says in ch 2 and claiming that all Jews are judgemental adulterous thieves. You also need to understand the text the way the original readers would have. They would have identified "males burning with appetite for other males" with what was happening in their society, not with what is happening in ours (since it didn't exist yet). Their assumptions about and attitudes to secsuality were radically different and you need to understand them to appreciate what Paul is talking about. Reading it with 21st century assumptions will mislead you. Furthermore, Paul is arguing that all have sinned. His argument requires something self-evidently wrong that a majority of people were doing, so he picks on their secsual excesses. It would defeat his purpose to be talking about the tiny of proportion of men attracted to men and certainly not if they are in a loving relationship. Hope this helps clarify the issue.

Part 4/4 Genesis 19 4 Before they lay down, the men of the city-the men of Sodom-surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people [b]from every quarter; 5 and they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may [c]have relations with them.” (This is where we think homosexuality has to do with this.) So Lot a righteous man replies 6 But Lot went out to them at the doorway, and shut the door behind him, 7 and said, “Please, my brothers, do not act wickedly. 8 Now look, I have two daughters who have not [d]had relations with any man; please let me bring them out to you, and do to them [e]whatever you like; Now I’d like a Bible-believing Christian to tell me that this is the response to their definition of a “righteous man” By that logic, you are saying that Lot offering his daughters to be "taken advantage of" (to put it kindly) by the town is not only less sinful but a righteous response than homosexuality. Is that the teaching/doctrine we are going to believe? So what is the proper context of the homosexuality conversation? Honestly, there shouldn’t be one. People are people but we will never see people as just people and it’s sad.
This topic is so twisted and messed up that I think we should just shut up about it. We say that God made marriage between a man and a woman Genesis 1 27 So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; Genesis 2 24, For this reason, a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked, but they were not ashamed. So I hope we all realize that this was before the fall in Genesis 3. Here is the context of this passage. God creating a perfect world with perfect people is told to “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it” Can homosexual relationships be fruitful? No. If we all had homosexual relationships humanity would become extinct. This is contrary to God’s overall plan. Homosexuality as a reproduction plan is a sin because we’d all die. This is not about morality. However, we don’t live in a perfect world and we are not perfect people. I want you to digest this passage and see how a very accepted “rule” was obliterated by Jesus. Matthew 12 [a]At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat. 2 Now when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath!” Here is a widely accepted belief about the Sabbath and the religious leaders called Jesus and His disciples on it. Now today we know Jesus is God and so this and other passages are amusing to us because there are telling God about the rules. However, we often tell others because we’re religious what God’s rules are so how are we any different? 3 But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions- 4 how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone? 5 Or have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple violate the Sabbath, and yet are innocent? 6 But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here. Jesus makes a clear difference why He’s rebuking them: 7 But if you had known what this means: ‘I desire compassion, rather than sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. What I have witnessed over the last 20+ years of this topic is how Christians's brains short-circuit over this issue which makes many ill-equipped to discuss it. The enemy uses the question “Is Homosexuality a SIN?” And from there we as believers SIN against God. 2 Timothy 4 says 3 For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth and will turn aside to myths. We believe in fables and myths that aren’t true and dismiss reality as myth and fables. When we say homosexual couples can’t marry, we hold out a standard God placed in a perfect garden so that humanity would procreate. Except mankind fell and all that we do is imperfect compared to God’s original design and He allows it so that we will be redeemed and return to the Garden. We hold out a perfect standard to an unbelieving world that has no understanding of God. And we destroy any hope that those who don’t believe in Jesus may one day believe. For whatever reason Christians have latched on to this topic and completely bought into a doctrine of Demons. Matthew 18 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. 6 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! How many of us in our own self-righteousness have brought death to an unbelieving world by our message? For many years I did. I have torn people down because I held onto rules and traditions and killed the innocent with my lack of compassion and love. The Law will always kill us and when our message is based on the Law we bring death to ourselves and the world. The Law shows us we can never meet God’s perfect Holiness, it was given to prepare the way for the Messiah. The one who would save humanity from death and SIN. Jesus’ work in us isn’t complete until the day of Resurrection. Here is one final thought to ponder. What if we asked ourselves “will what I say or do bring death to someone or will it bring life?” The Bible says in your anger do not sin. Is it a sin to get angry? No. Is it a sin to get angry and call someone a loser, or an idiot? Yeah. Because it kills them inside. Then you want to talk to them about Jesus and think it’ll work. How many people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community have been killed by Christians? Thousands? Millions? It’s easy for a straight person to call a gay person sinful because Christians believe Sin is a choice, not a disease that has plagued ALL of humanity and straight people aren’t gay. By the way, I’m straight but I have watched for 2 decades how Christians have damaged their witness to unbelievers. I hope this helps in your studies on this topic but I just think many Christians have blown this topic up unnecessarily due to a lack of understanding of the Bible.

But, if you'll get rid off the God's Law, like Christians have done (yeah we don't even follow the 10 of them), than you'll always have this kind of problems and gray areas. Once we accept the God's eternal law, and follow the example of our Messiah, the way he followed it. We will be not only liberated, but also have no room for interpretation. We don't follow it to be saved, but to show our love to God because we are saved.

This a very good point. I am glad that Mr Winger is addressing such issues. Another interesting topic would be the act of using Medical Birth Control. It seems to me, it is basically humans trying to defeat God's natural laws, all for the fulfillment of selfish desires. So, when one acts then, they are not actually making love, but rather acting in lust. Would you then say, that, a gay person partaking in lustful activity, is thus the same as a heterosexual couple partaking in lustful activity, as ultimately, it is about enjoying the flesh. So, in other words, we should be aware that when we judge, we ensure that it is done conscientiously, and of course, unbiasedly. Let us ensure that we all have our houses in order.

@Christian Bible Study The biggest issue that comes from the argument is not *if* you believe in the Gospel of Christ, but *how* you came to believe. non-Calvinist: I chose to believe in Christ. Calvinist: God chose me to believe in Christ. The problem normally comes from non-Calvinists seeing Calvinists being arrogant with being selected, as if there were something special about them. Conversely, Calvinists also see non-Calvinists as being arrogant because they would dare to think that they are capable of their own volition in choosing Christ for salvation. Regardless of the theological method, we should all agree on one thing -- none of us deserved our salvation, yet God gave us a promise through His Son, and He deserves all the glory for it. That is how we should still be able to see one another as brothers and sisters in Christ rather than needlessly divide.

@@thisladyisstrange6243 are you saying that being opposed to sin is bigotry? I thought he made it pretty clear that he's opposed to the practice of homosexuality but not necessarily the feelings or "temptations". God is pretty clear about man's relationship to the opposite gender and how that relationship was made to be exclusively for them alone. When you take that relationship and use it for your own desires and fantasies then you've stepped outside of God's will and thus you've sinned. Again, it's not a sin to feel tempted; it's what you do with that temptation that is the issue. Jesus was tempted by Satan as you may know but He resisted it by quoting scripture and re-affirming His relationship with God and who He says He is. Now, if someone has fully given into that lifestyle then we are still called to love them as the human beings they are however when you've given in to your sin you can't experience the full presence of God in your life because you chose to let sin be a part of it and as we all know God hates sin because of how destructive it is to us humans. God loves gays just as much as he loves straight people, but the difference is that one is in accordance to His will whereas the other is not (AKA Sin) and thus He cannot condone nor encourage that which is antithetical to His very being. Love the sinner, hate the sin but don't leave them in that place of sin lest they be consumed by it. If you're looking for a great explanation for this subject in greater detail then I recommend Dr. Ravi Zacharias's video on it. I hope I could help clear some things up and if you still aren't convinced then it's pretty simple: Christians are called to love others and treat one another the way you want to be treated, God is Judge not us, and for Non-believers it's simply repent and except Jesus into your life so that you may be able to live a life worth living in God's purpose for you.

1 Cor 6:9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men We all have temptation to resist and we all fall short but get back up and fight again, no matter what the temptation is. Jesus wanted to wash Peter's feet and Peter said:"NO!". Jesus replied: "you dont understand what I'm doing but later you will. Unless you allow me to cleanse you, you have no part with me." Whatever temptation or sin we are fighting to resist we have to recognize our imperfection, reject it at heart and understand our need to be cleansed and redeemed. We cannot be okay with the sin we commit. We should desire to have it removed from us. The cleansing and redemption has not taken place yet but through our faith we live as it already has, having a better conscience. It takes place when Jesus returns, which is soon. Hang on till then.

Fantastic answer. Myself as a person that is a Christian and struggles with same sex attractions, it is so important to be able sort out temptation from actionable offense. Would I love to someday not have to deal with this particular struggle? Absolutely. But this struggle has mad me understand the depth of grace and what dying to the flesh really looks like; having to understand my feelings don’t equate to truth and seeing what God’s intentions are toward us and how do we best chase after those in our broken state of humanity. Having nearly died from complications caused by AIDS, I have walked the path of sin leading to death and destruction, but beyond thankful for the grace to see another day and know that Jesus stands in grace, forgiveness, freedom, and LIFE when we choose to accept it.

Part 2/4 Paul reiterates this in Romans 7 7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead. 9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10 The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. 11 For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. 12 So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. “9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died.10 The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me.” The Bible and the commandments and rules are to show God’s Holiness and perfection. What do we know of God’s Holiness? Nothing. What do we know about perfection? Nothing. These are concepts we can’t even fathom. It is not for us to master the Law because when we try to it leads to death. Because our imperfect understanding of perfection leads us to death. Jesus was the only one who was perfect enough to follow the law and be the one to die to fulfill the punishment for breaking the law which was death. Paul tells of our struggle 15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. 17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. Romans 8 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. So there is a clear pattern. We are all sinful, every human being. We are sinful because we will die and we make choices to accelerate our death and the deaths of others. It's almost like saying instead of SIN replace it with Death. For the wages of "Death" is Death. Why is adultery a sin? Because it brings death to a marriage. Christians and non-Christians understand this. So whether we are Christians or not we bring death. Salvation through Jesus saves our soul but as long as we are in this body we will SIN. We are death-bringers and we always will be. This is why Paul even after being saved says in Romans 7 21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. In Deuteronomy 30 God says 11 “For this commandment which I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it far away. 12 It is not in heaven, [q]that you could say, ‘Who will go up to heaven for us and get it for us, and proclaim it to us, so that we may [r]follow it?’ 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, [s]that you could say, ‘Who will cross the sea for us and get it for us and proclaim it to us, so that we may [t]follow it?’ 14 On the contrary, the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may [u]follow it. Then it goes on: 15 “See, I have placed before you today life and [v]happiness, and death and [w]adversity, 16 in that I am commanding you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, so that you may live and become numerous, and that the Lord your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to take possession of it. It clarifies it Verse 19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have placed before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your [y]descendants, 20 by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding close to Him; for [z]this is your life and the length of your days, [aa]so that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” When we look at the commandments not as rules but as a theme of life and death we will begin to understand what SIN is. SIN brings death and we are sinful. Jesus brings life to us but we are still sinners saved by Grace. Why do you think there is a resurrection day? 1 Corinthians 15:50-57 50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
55 “O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus had to be born of a virgin because SIN like a disease has infected all of humanity. Think of SIN like this. The Bible says gluttony is a sin. Why? Because if I choose to overeat and overeat and overeat I am choosing to kill myself slowly. My choice results in death which is why it’s a SIN. Why is choosing other god’s before GOD is a sin because the other god’s the kingdom of darkness want us dead. The enemy doesn’t care who we sleep with unless it ends up in our final extermination. We see all throughout history that the ancient religions were death cults, and unless we understand the context if the Old Testament we will also become a death cult. Religion is about rules of do’s and don’ts, be better, be more righteous, be more holy and God will accept you. The Bible shows a mirror about humanity, that we will always choose death. God gave us life through Jesus but unto we are Resurrected on that Day we will always be sinful. God just sees us as sinless because of Jesus’s sacrifice for us. We as people love to be thought of as “good”, we want to be better than other people, as Christians or religious people we want to think we are holy and righteous. So how can we think we are these things if we believe that God only sees us this way because of Jesus? There must be some other way to measure our goodness? How can we be holy as God is Holy is there is no measuring stick for us to follow? This is why the Bible is clear if you don’t have Jesus you are dead. “He who has the Son has Life, He who does no have the Son does not have life.” It’s as simple as that. There is no in between.

I expect the passage you're thinking of is Matt. 5:21-30. I'd suggest you re-read it. When you do so, you'll realize that it doesn't say what you're representing it as saying--it's a bit more narrow. Temptation, as such, is not sin, otherwise Christ could not have been tempted and yet not sinned (and we're told both of those things are true). Indulging the temptation--even in your mind, if not in your actions--renders you guilty. One way I've seen it phrased, which I think accurately captures that passage, is "what you would do if you could, in God's eyes you've already done."

I think you're misinterpreting Matthew 5:21-22... "You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment." and Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." It is one thing to *get* angry without cause, and another to *stay* angry without cause... to linger in it and let it become resentment. See Ephesians 4:26 “In your anger do not sin” [a reference to Psalm 4:4]: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry" So anger itself, even unrighteous anger is not in itself sin... though you are *in danger of* (close to) *the judgment* , it is not sin unless you act on it and/or dwell on it. Similarly, simply seeing something of a man or woman that you shouldn't, or having an errant impure thought, is not sin. No doubt Jesus, as a pubescent fully human male, felt sexual urges - yet he did not sin despite never marrying. So rather, it is *acting* on such things, or *dwelling* on them (i.e., fantasizing, replaying the image in your mind, etc.) that is sin. We all have sinful urges. You have yours; I have mine. Some are more visible than others when we act on them. The problem is that acting on those urges, even actively living them as a lifestyle, has become acceptable - even celebrated - in the world culture (which is not at all surprising) and also in some churches... which, frankly, is also not surprising, as Paul dealt with similar issues on many occasions with the early Gentile believers. Ultimately, whatever urge or thought we have that goes against God's word, it is sin to act on it. However, as Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But *when* [not "if"!] *you are tempted, he will also provide a way out* so that you can endure it." Praise God for that way out!

When it comes to oppressors, I think the Bible makes clear that our flesh is the real oppressor. It keeps us in bondage to sin and it's consequences. The way of Christ only appears oppressive to the flesh because it's dealing with the real oppressor so that we can truly be free in Christ to do God's will. This should be the desire of anyone who claims to be a follower of Christ. It's not about justifying our sinful desires but saying along with Jesus "Not my will, but yours be done". @@oreemmanuel2466 "just because God allowed it to be possible, doesn't make people absolved of all responsibility for their decisions" Firstly, I'm sure we can agree that 'being' gay isn't a choice. It makes life harder pretty much everywhere, nobody would sensibly choose that. "For their decisions" is a difficult part there. Because, the choice offered is 'forgoe any kind of sexual satisfaction, purely because you ended up gay'. Now, that's quite a strange thing to ask of someone. Even for a god. Especially when god was the one that not only made being/doing gay things "sinful" in the first place, but then made it possible to be gay out of our control. As a believer, doesn't that come across as a little contrived to you? A bit random-out-of-nowhere. Almost as if god set up gay people to fail from the get-go. From the perspective of a person when the bible is said to have been written, homosexuality was very widely seen as a perversion. It would make sense for perversions to be written against in the bible, and, in at least some regard, reasonably without explanation. Killing someone is usually wrong, for example, so it would make sense for the bible to say 'don't kill', and nobody can really disagree with that. The fact of homosexual behaviour raises a strange issue though, because it doesn't have a rational justification. "Don't kill" makes sense, it upsets and harms, destabilizes society, etc. but homosexual behaviour doesn't do that. Couple that with the fact that it's a near, if not perfect mirror of heterosexual love and it's all quite a perculiar situation. At a very minimum, the bible is immoral for outlawing something that seems innocent and positive while being completely intrinsic to a person, without giving a reason why it's bad. We certainly can't find one in the material world. Regardless what the bible says, it can't be argued that isn't malicious that a god would create then penalise homosexuals. Many people have defended god by saying "people chose to sin", but when god doesn't give you a platform to not sin and makes your very existance sin, there is no free-will. Homosexuality is quite a loop-hole in the bible, because it's one of the only things that breaks down it's entire message of god caring. Homosexuality cannot be sin while a caring creator-god exists, they are opposite.

Heterosexual wrestle with lustful thoughts of adultery and all sorts. This isn't the sin. I think that what you say about humans being created sinful slightly misunderstands the biblical point of view. Wrestling with sin in a sinful world may not be a choice but what we do from there is. If you define being gay as struggling with homosexual urges then yes, humans do struggle with these tendencies. If you define being gay as openly engaging in homosexual relationships then that is a choice. The reason homosexuality is wrong is because it misunderstands God's intention for sexuality. I hope you can see my point of view.

@@oreemmanuel2466 "Wrestling with sin in a sinful world may not be a choice but what we do from there is" I think you misunderstand my point. It's not about the homosexual; it's about god's decision. We could argue all day about what the bible does and doesn't say and get no closer to the truth. "I think that what you say about humans being created sinful slightly misunderstands the biblical point of view" That's not quite what I said. I meant it more like 'humans were given the capacity to love, but some love is off-limits with no justifiable material reason and also no biblical reasons'. It's obvious what harm paedophilia does, that can be left without saying, but it's not obvious what harm homosexual acts do, yet that also goes without reason. That is unjust and incompatible with the idea of a caring and fair god. "Wrestling with sin in a sinful world may not be a choice but what we do from there is" I can appreciate that perspective, though it's not really relevent here. I am willing to grant that, for any future point. "If you define being gay as openly engaging in homosexual relationships then that is a choice" Doing those acts is a choice, yes, but one didn't choose to be homosexual and cannot choose to not be. Hence why it is unjust for god to outlaw those acts while giving no explanation. "The reason homosexuality is wrong is because it misunderstands God's intention for sexuality." God created homosexuality, or, at very least, willingly and knowingly built the structure that would develop it. Given the state of an all-knowing being, the existance of homosexuality must be his intention. It simply cannot not be. I'm sure that we can both admit that the Bible has a chance to be wrong. Many translations, word-of-mouth, years-after scribing. My point sums to; homosexual acts being sinful without justification cannot exist in the same universe as a caring and just god. An honest Christian must choose between believing their god is fair and caring or that homosexual acts are a sin. Lest they be burdened with a contrediction.

I wouldn’t even say Christianity is oppressive to the flesh. Christianity is oppressive against sin and corruption. The life of a Christian is built up on discipline of following in Jesus’ example. Conforming to the image of God’s son Jesus. You can’t conform, if you are in rebellion against the image of God’s Son. So we live a life that brings our flesh into submission to God. We are training our bodies to be disciplined in recognizing Spiritual authority. The concept of the flesh is also not entirely based on the body, but the self serving nature of the body that is undisciplined. Like an infant, it is immature only seeking that which gratifies itself. Maturity is realizing that their is more to life than your personal gratification. Following Jesus also points to a life of Love, which actually is about recognizing that there is more than personal gratification. I believe a large issue in understanding this especially with the homosexual community is that modern Christians include their sexual relationship activity as “love”. I have watched young men give reasoning that sex is how they desire to show their future wives that they love them because Eros is a form of love, and I have heard pastors with wives and children also preach this same message that the Greek philosophy of Eros being love is in the Bible. It is not. The same Love even in Songs of Solomon is the love between Abraham and Isaac... and I don’t even want to go where that can lead pushing the whole sex/love craze that is being pushed by Christians and pastors today. We keep trying to tie our “passions” and “desires” into what “love” is and we fail to see how it further confuses others when they try to look at the foundations of what to believe. Those passions and desires are of the flesh and their is a place for them that must be maintained with personal discipline. Being a disciple of Jesus means making sure to walk with God in submission to Spiritual authority which establishes boundaries for the flesh. There is so much that can come from those boundaries but people focus on what they can’t do instead of what they can. Being tempted with Homosexual temptations is not a sin and I am glad you all shared that. I firmly believe though that we have developed a culture where intimacy like Jonathan and David, is only recognized between two people that are sexually engaged. Even in Christian circles. There is this culture of empty false community where we push the idea that if you want to have any kind of intimacy, you must find a spouse because no one else has time for you. And I watch young men and women idolize finding someone who they can finally open up to and for some reason sex has to be involved. So exercising genuine intimacy with another human being becomes bound to the marriage relationship and the marriage bed and that is where I place the blame on modern Christian culture as it lacks the genuine intimacy of what Jesus began. It is limping along trying to bring in the cultural aspects of the world, and redeem them, instead of letting those worldly influences die on the cross and follow what Jesus established by example. I am just sharing that we created the current climate with our marriage focused Christianity, instead of a Christ focused discipleship. In the end they just brought in their sexual desires, over emphasizing its importance, and got a pass because it was a more acceptable distraction.

@@AnniEast thank you for the compliment. I am honestly always thinking about these things as I watch Christianity in action today versus what is written biblically about Jesus and his disciples. I do realize context plays a key part in understanding scripture but topics like this are rarely discussed. I guess I can say I have a growing concern for the young and those questioning their sexuality. I honestly see a part of the issue stemming from modern Christian doctrines on sex being love. If I may add one final aspect to this, there is the case where Jesus himself states that their is no marrying or giving into marriage with our heavenly bodies. If we state that sex is for the marriage bed, then by Jesus’ own words, sex does not exist spiritually. If God is love and sex is love as preachers would preach it to be, then God is a sexual being and sex is spiritual. But no where in scripture does it make such a case about sex or love or God. Jesus actually inferred the opposite. Sex is just a physical aspect of life. God is communal with his relationship established between himself, His Son and the Holy Spirit; but sex is not established for them as love in their unity. So in short I conclude that sex is not love, and it is that Christian confusion that I feel is responsible for feeding the confusion surrounding homosexuality.

All of the prohibitions in the bible are about sexual penetration and lust and not about same sex desire and attraction which was taken for granted in much of the ancient world. Apart from the scriptural prohibitions there are also sound medical reasons why men should abstain from any kind of sexual penetration. There is nothing in the Bible that prohibits physical closeness with a beloved person. Furthermore, what that "physical closeness" entails is not the business of the clergy nor the state. We are NOT going to go back to the time of Leviticus when people were stoned to death for adultery, homosexuality and blasphemy.

3:40> SO TRUE!! There IS such freedom in following Jesus vs oneself! We humans have minds & hearts that change with the wind depending on mood, circumstance, enviroment (who's around), etc., Jesus stays the same & NEVER leads us wrong. Jesus is the one we can count on.

I don’t know. I know the passages against homosexuality. I know passages to stone adulterers, too. I know passages where it is said that women are not allowed to preach. And I know that there are WAY more passages about grace and forgiveness and love. I don’t think it’s that simple. For most gay Christians I know, to be told your way of loving is a reason for eternal punishment in a lake of fire makes life already a living hell. Extremely brutal IMO

The problem is that people are interpreting the Bible through the lens of modern cultural assumptions while ignoring the actual culture in which the statements were written. The fundamental ethic the works in the Bible teach is to treat God with respect and gratitude, and to do good and not harm other people. The fundamental message in the documents contained in the Bible is that people have failed to live up to that standard and need God's forgiveness. God has done the work of earning that forgiveness for us by sending Jesus to die on the cross and come back to life. Whatever you read in the Bible really needs to be understood in that light and interpreted according to what the original readers of each document would have understood. If you do that, I find that eliminates the kind of problems you mention. - Mention of sameseks practices were about legitimately hurtful behaviour that was around at the time. there's nothing in the bible to say there's anything wrong with two people in loving relationship. - Stoning etc. was a legal penalty for some serious crimes in Israelite law. While we should follow the general principle of law and order and punishment in proportion to the crime, no one says we have to obey exactly the same form of law in a totally different society today. - In patriarchal societies women were treated as socially inferior, so placing a woman in a leadership position risked her not being treated with respect potentially leading to discord in the early church. In a society where men and women are socially equal, there's nothing wrong with it. Hope this helps.

@@MusicalRaichu it did help :) thank you for your nice and extensive answer. Actually, I see it the way you do. The bible has to be told in context of culture and history. I even have the thinking, that god speaks individually through the scripture to every human. One passage may tell you different things than other christians. There are so many good preachers, who differ on so many subjects. There is no right or wrong (as long as you don’t hurt someone else). Now, for me is interesting, where do we stop taking the bible word for word. Maybe even Jesus is just a metaphor? so to speak. And for me, it’s important, what lesson do I take from reading certain verses. How do I act differently because of what god told ME in this particular passage. Does that make sense?

@@thomasw1865 It makes a lot of sense, and these are important issues you've raised. I can think of two main guidelines. Understand in context. The Bible is not a collection of verses, it's a collection of documents each with its own message. The numbers were added much later. Any sentence in a document in the Bible has its role to play in presenting the overall message and taking it out of context risks misleading you. Understand the genre. Is a passage poetry or narrative or a reasoned argument or a parable? Interpret it according to the way that genre works. For example - the Adam and Eve story is a myth. it explains and justifies why things are the way they are, helps set cultural values, and should not be taken like historical narrative. - psalms are poetry so they'll use poetic devices like metaphors, repetition, rhythm to help convey thoughts and feelings and should not be pressed literally. - Most content in Paul's letters are reasoned arguments so you need to interpret each statement in terms of what role it plays in carrying the argument forward. All this applies to any document you read, not just the Bible. Think of the different ways in every day life you approach a novel, a news article, a song, a maths lesson and so on. I think some things can mean different things to different people. Just like different people can interpret a song differently, different people can relate differently for example to a psalm. With narratives and arguments, I think it makes sense first to work out the author's intended meaning, but how it applies to each person's situation will vary because our lives are often different. In other words I think you should work towards a consistent understanding of the underlying message, but then consider individually how that message affects your life.
