It just shows how Filipino language in general is very rich in expressions and metaphors that when directly translated to English, it adds its own flavor and uniqueness to it that makes it distinctively Filipino. We shouldn't chastise our own English dialect as not being 'standard' if it follows the same standard grammar as other proper English do. Who are they to judge how we want to speak it?

This video reminds me of the “Filipino moments” or very Filipino thing that went viral on social media. I also used to say “I’ll go ahead” by that it means “Mauna na ako” or “Uwi na ako” and “I’ll pass by” or “Dadaan ako” whenever we have a get together with my friends. The “close open close open” was so nostalgic because my parents used to say that especially when we have a baby or toddler on our house. It made me realize how amazing our culture and language is and that we can even make the English language as if our own because of the variety of interpretation we have. We don’t think about the rules of grammar, pronunciation, accent and vocabulary as long as we communicate effectively based on our contexts. Indeed, the different ways of using English of Filipinos showcased how unique we are compared to others.

There are factors that can influence how we have different ways of using the English language and this video has shown how the culture and the practice of a country affects our communication. Aside from these expressions, we also have our own slang, jargon, and euphemisms that a group of people uses to communicate more purposefully and respectfully to understand each other even though we have multicultural differences. I also agree that as long as the speaker and their audience understand each other with respect, there is effective communication. I totally agree and believe that we each have our own way of conveying our thoughts, especially when speaking English. As Filipinos, we also have different pronunciation, grammar, accent and vocabulary which is somehow because of our native languages and the culture of other Filipino speakers, in which we adapt and evolve at the same time. That is why our English is way different from the North American standard, because it is based on our own contexts. However, the good thing is that even though our English is different from the other English-speaking countries, we can still able to communicate and understand each other.

After I've finished watching the video. I recognized that we do have direct words or term for every Filipino phrase that we all use in regular conversation and communication. With that, it can cause that some individuals particularly from western nations to come and think that they also have a unique interpretation. In fact, the Filipino language have so many varieties of terms and expression that when translated directly into English it ended up taking its own originality. After watching the video I somewhat understood why it is related to what I am doing all the time. I realized that we Filipinos easily adapts with different languages and have our own unique way of conveying our thoughts in speaking English, it is mainly from the translation of Filipino language in which we used in our everyday lives. Since we are going to converse with foreign especially in Western Countries, we have to be extra careful with our way of expressing ourselves (in our grammar, accents and pronunciations) in English so we can’t be misunderstood. But, it is also beneficial that we Filipinos understand one another and that is the most important thing.

There is no limit as to how we can transform a language to suit our own purposes and understanding. We Filipinos are so creative that we even created many Pinoy English expressions that came from the literal and direct translations of our original Filipino expressions. These evolution of language is inevitable as different countries each have their own ways of speaking and conveying a message that are deeply patterned with their mother tongue, culture, and mind set. It is truly amazing how these new words and expressions get created because of our different basis of context and ways of understanding.

After I have watched this video, I have learned and realized many things about how we make our own identity in the English language like how it has affected ours. To be honest, it is my first time to learn that Westerners can’t understand our English expressions which contribute to our uniqueness. One of the examples that came to my mind while watching this video is the word “Comfort Room”. When I socialize with foreigners, they are always confused that we called the bathroom like that. We often use these expressions when communicating in English or with someone who speaks English. When I was in high school, our school had a mandatory policy to always speak in English once inside the school campus unless it was August for Buwan ng Wika. I would always use the Pinoy English expression, "I’ll go ahead," when I would tell my classmates that I would go home ahead of them. When some of the teachers in the school needed to return to the faculty to get something they had forgotten, they would always say, "For a while." We, Filipinos, have our own way of communicating, especially when we use English words. We tend to shorten English words. Instead of "Wait for a while," we use "for a while." We also have different meanings for the English words that we use. For example, "for a while" means "for a short time" in English, but it means "wait" in Pinoy. Given the fact that English Language is not our Second Language or L2 as time goes by we keep learning how to use it to convey and to transmit a messages whether in formal or in our daily life set-up. For example in the video, the expression close-open are commonly used by us Filipinos. We tend to say close when we want to shut something (unless it is a door) because our definition with that is to shut because it is close. Instead of saying turn off the light or turn the lights off just like in the video we say close the light because for us the image of the word close is dark or black out same as with open, when we say open, it’s bright and free.

Most of my cousins lived in different English speaking countries like USA, Canada, and New Zealand, I also have friends from different parts of the world because of playing games and I can tell by talking or catching up with them that each of them has a different way of expressing things or using English words just like what Mikey shared in this video. He showed us that we Filipinos/Pinoys, like other countries, have our own interpretation of English expressions because of our own culture, the way we live and do things. Mikey did a lot of comparing between Pinoy English and western terms and I totally agree with him. Western people will find it really hard to understand his examples. I just finish watching the video and I realize that we have direct words for every Filipino words that we used in everyday conversation and It make other people mostly from western countries that they have different meaning.

Bustos video explains how we have different ways of using English. It is a great example that even though there are different ways of using English in communication, it is still important that we have a deeper understanding even though we have a they are different grammar, as long as we understand each other and have respect for each other, we can have create a effective communication, even if we know to ourselves or some of our Filipinos that our grammars are wrong. And at the end, it reminds us how important a language is, even if our grammars are different, we can communicate effectively as long as we have respect for others.

This Pinoy English help me to understand the different ways to talk English languages in the world. It helps me to gain knowledge on how to communicate other nationality.

I have learned in this video that there are many ways we interpret words or sentences in english because of our understanding. Knowing how to properly communicate in english and who we use it too is needed for both parties to understand what we meant about the words that we say.

It's amazing how we Filipinos have come up with unique english expressions that only we understand. This shows our ability and creativity in language usage.

It's so true! especially the open and close the light "close open close open" and wow, so blurred lmao I can relate on those two. It just goes to show how the Filipino language in general is so rich in idioms and metaphors that it takes on its own identity when translated directly into English, making it uniquely Filipino. If our own English dialects obey the same grammar rules as other kinds of English, we shouldn't dismiss them as non-standard.

After watching this video, I understood why it's easy for us to understand each other when using English. We have other creative ways to express what we want to say to other people. We do not judge each other when using these expressions. This way we learn more and become good at speaking.

After watching this video, it's clear to me that we Filipinos have unique accent, vocabulary, and that we pronounce words in own special way. We Filipinos love making up strange words that become popular over time, based on how we want to say something or how we feel. It was also said in the video that we have our own way of saying things, especially when we speak English. Because in the end, we will still be able to fully understand each other.

In the beginning, mikey bustos thought as that in terms of english they have different meaning in other people like what he said in this video like the northen american people & western american people they have different understanding, but as long as you know how to speak english especially if you know how to use it in different american english you have no problem with it, at the same time it is easy for you to communicate and to express your word to the people. for me the pinoy english expression are very familiar to me is the word “for a while” i always used it in my work before as a call center agent.

This video is an informative video that each of us can make aware of using english because we Filipinos may understand each other but if we use it with foreigners they may be confused. However, after watching this video, I can say that it's fun to be Filipino because, despite the fact that our Pinoy English makes sense to foreigners because we interpret it in our own unique ways, we can see the Filipinos' dedication in improving their English.

Expressing thyself from talents to even communication, Filipinos are indeed creative. Filipinos are not the only people who can be creative, but what sets ours apart is the artistry, expressiveness, and humor that collectively interpret Filipino creativity. The word ‘’Unique’’ will never be forgotten in describing Filipinos. With the complex culture from being seized and influenced by multiple countries, the Filipinos had adopted a diverse way of communicating. Filipinos may have their own way in speaking and communicating but one thing is for sure, that it is still capable of being comprehended and is always expressive.

I never even noticed that those phrases are only used by us Filipinos. As the way we speak English can really show our culture as this video highlights how Filipinos excel in slangs and idioms that when translated literally they can carry meanings giving them a unique touch by us. We have really made a language that only we Filipinos can fully understand.

This video was clarify the misconception of using English words. Most of them laugh on how Filipino use English, we tend to translate word for word but it was fossilized in Filipino culture. Yes, we create our on lingua translation, it is the talent of Filipino to find ways in learning English . Accidentaly it passes through generations that acquired by so many of them. This video illustrates and explain why Filipino became or having a skills in speaking english , we can deliverate it also with fluency and as a Filipino. It was great to be part of having this traditionary way. But in western, they do not understand it clearly, mikey bustos really spin the wheel of making fun the filipino way into a appreciation of how they make it easy. Well, Bustos’s point of view relates to our day-to-day life, how we used to deal with different kinds of people, in the way how we communicate as a “Pinoy”. We do have our own type of communication with ourselves and with other people, It's one of our identities as Filipino because we are known for how we usually speak in English and based on our experience as Customer Representatives, our customers can recognize us easily if we are a Filipino based on how we speak, which means that the way on how we speak the English language has its own identity.

This simply demonstrates that, based on our grammar, accent, pronunciation, and vocabulary, we have invented Pinoy English idioms that only Filipinos like us understand. The most essential thing is that we can still speak, understand and respect each other .

English allows us to communicate with individuals from all over the world, not only in the Philippines. They say English is the universal language, and I believe it is, because in other nations, we have a language that we use to communicate, and other people do not understand it. Through the English language, we can communicate with other people because they understand us. This is why English is so important to us.

Pinoy English is very unique! We must be proud because all kinds of English have their own characteristics and in our part as a Filipino, our English is not that bad or disgusting. We can say that we have a different accent and pronunciation in some other words but the important thing is we can express our thoughts with our own expression to other people. Reflecting on the video, Filipinos are great speakers. I recall, he said that we can adapt to other accents. This proves that our way of using English depends on our environment, intention, culture, tradition, and of course the context. Each individual has different capabilities and techniques as long as they successfully convey what they meant to say. Especially now that the world has no standard way of speaking English, and everybody can freely express their thoughts in a way they are comfortable and efficient to speak. Not unless you compare it to a distinct language, just like he did in this video.

We have distinct expressions when we use the English language since we are Filipinos. We have our own expressions or ways of speaking English and different accents when it comes to understanding each other.

While watching this video, I realized that Filipinos really are unique in terms of using English language. Filipinos add their own flavor of using English by making our own expressions that only Filipinos can understand. It may confused westerners since it's much different to their standard terms but that makes Filipinos unique in using a foreign language.
