It was most likely soybean powder or konggaru that blew out. The white sugar was sprinkled all over the corndog but only the konggaru was sprinkled on the tip. It's usually used on sweet rice cakes.

I live vicariously through your videos, Mike. I once wanted to live in japan and that passed. Then it was Ireland (where I'm 1/3 heritage) and that's passed. i don't know if I'll ever travel first class on any transport but through your videos, I can experience what it is like and for those who lack the funds or situation to travel, this is a great gift. My Achilles heel will be your bento box videos. I re-watched one of them tonight and the urge to shop in one of those stores and purchase those boxes (even if the meat IS like leather) was strong. I look forward to watching many more of your videos and I wish you, your family, friends and acquaintances well.
