Minnesota for a food scene has almost everything. Somali, Hmong, Vietnamese, Mexican, African, ethnic European. This also includes the ethnic staples around the country. I just wish MN had a tad more Caribbean and BBQ scene.

Yes! Welcome to Hmong Village! I'm glad you liked it! The community has worked hard over the years to really bring it together and making it accessible to the general public and worked even harder to keep things going during the pandemic. I'm glad you were finally able to visit! Papaya salad usually uses fish sauce, lime, salt and sugar as a base. From there each shop will have their own ratios and secret ingredients. But yes. Some of the best shops are the ones at the end and around the corner of the food court. I'm glad you found that stall. While all the stalls generally serve the same things: papaya salad, pho, hmong sausage, chicken, pork belly etc; Each shop there has their own particular way of cooking things so it's fun to try the different shops and find your own favorites amongst them. Love getting pork belly over there. Want one with crunchy skin? They got. Want a softer savory version with juicy meat? They got it. A mix of both? They got it. each shop has their own way of doing it. And if you ask, they can double fry it for you so you get some extra crispy versions. And pho is always a hit there. Same deal too. Each shop has their own blends and spices to the broths so you can find a pho that suits your taste all in one area. I hope you come back again!

Fun fact, Hmong people are the largest Asian subgroup in Minnesota at 94,000. They're mostly concentrated around the Twin Cities: Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Minnesotans have fully embraced Hmong food and culture, because they have assimilated so well into society. Their community have a staggering 2 billion USD buying power and they contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes. Hmong food is distinctly unique, because it is a fusion of SouthEast/East Asian cuisine. There are many Hmong athletes, CEO's, artists, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers and elected officials who call Minnesota home today.

Its called " cook and eat with what ever the fuck u have to eat to survive with little to none resources in the jungles of laos" 😂 real authentic hmong food is back in southern part of china like szechaun to be exact but hmong in the US has lost every trace of their steps to it 😂

That’s cool you visited Hmong Village. Hmong food is a fusion of many cultures and it’s true we have our own twist to each recipe. Hmong food in America is mostly influenced by southeast asian dishes because we immigrated from there. However, I’m sure Hmong traditional food in China would be closer to being authentic from more “ancient” times. The Hmong who migrated from China to Southeast Asia mostly lived in the mountains so it makes sense why the lifestyle (food, tools, clothes, etc) are much more humble. Even so, it’s really nice to see how the Hmong cultures and traditions are so diverse. Thank you for bringing exposure to the food Hmong in America enjoy.

Nice for you to visit Minnesota for the "best days of summer celebration AKA State Fair. Hope you got to try some of the crazy, wacky foods the fair has to offer. They try and get a few new foods each year. Deep fried pickles, deep fried Oreos and others. Of course, you gotta try a Corn Dog or 2. That Jucy Lucy sure looked like perfection. I've never been to Matts but we have quite a few other places that offer up Jucy Lucys. Crooked Pint and Ale is my current favorite. But the Nook, Blue Door Pub, 5-8 club offer some very good ones to. Best part is they are in St Paul only (The Nook) or have restaurants in St Paul. It's not just Minneapolis that has great food. The Hmong Village sure seems like a great place when wanting to get adventurous when dining out. You probably won't read this but hope your visit was enjoyable.
