Why does this guy remind me of Paul Rudd? Thanks so much for making this video. Finding how to separate colors for simulated process printing specifically on black isn't the easiest information to find. I am still doing something wrong but this is the closest I've gotten so far. I have trouble reducing the colors down from 10 to 6, or 5.

if anyone is having trouble with the base, If you have a transparent background, make a new layer fill it with black and put it in the back. Then select the rgb layer and invert. then hide the black layer. makes a better base than just selecting alone.

Hi Matt , another great video ! Can you tell me , why did You set for colors 15% solidity instead of 5% ?
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 3 жыл бұрын
The solidity is really just a screen rep. In this case, because there were a lot of solid areas of color, I turned it up a little just so it'll appear brighter on screen. The solidity really has no effect on how the print results turn out.

In this video, you select all R, G and B as a base. I think in previous videos, you only select one of the three for both base and highlight. I haven't printed a sim on dark garments, but watch these to be prepared when one comes my way. Do you suggest selecting all for the underbase or just the one of the R, G, or B profiles that reflects the best option or does it just differ per job?
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 3 жыл бұрын
I don't necessarily look at it like a set process. Different days, I may feel like taking a different approach. As long the the results come out well on screen, and press, that's all that really matters.

Hi Mike i wanted to ask if you could give me some advice I been trying burn my pictures onto the screen but for some reason the emulsion won't come off I use a 500watt lamp and dual cure emulsion and let the transparency paper sit for 13mins any advice?
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 3 жыл бұрын
It may be because the film isn't dense enough, or you're not getting good positive contact with the film to the screen. Be sure the printed side of the film is the one touching the screen. I hope this helps.

Hi a bit of a newbie question here. But, would you always use the same ink colors when doing a simulated spot process? Like would you always use that exact same shade of blue and cyan?

Great vid, 2 quick questions, when doing the white shirt wet on wet, are you flashing the black that you are laying down first? Also what angle are you running your squeegees at on your anatol. I been trying to dial in the best angle. Thanks, again great vid
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We run it at 20 with just enough pressure to blend the squeegee so it's using the edge of the squeegee. We weren't flashing the black. Just all wet on wet so the colors mix.
@GrafXnj
@GrafXnj 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 cool thanks, I was thinking printing over wet black would make a muddy look, but I’m guessing the high mesh screen allows just the right amount, definitely gonna try as every cycle or flash adds time to the run and time is $. Thanks again

Great vid! It would have been nice to get a better/longer close up look at the final print. Also, you spent a lot less time adjusting the separations in Photoshop on this one. Is there a reason for that?
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473
@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You're right about that. I thought I had got more footage of the final print, but that job had already went out the door. The reason is, it's a simpler graphic and didn't need a whole lot of fussing with.
@dwlouden
@dwlouden 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 oh, ok. That makes sense. One other thing if you don’t mind. You also didn’t trap the top colours in this one. Is that because you didn’t want it trapped on the white tee or is there another reason for skipping that this time?
@HerrNox

Hey there! In a previous video (a fairly older one), you expanded the selection by 1 pixel for all colors, but you didn't here. What's the use of expanding the selection?

Ok, I'm working on an image and when I get to blue (it's a photo of a US Flag), I get that warning that less than 50% pixel... blah, blah, blah. I ignored the warning like you said. However... it won't invert the image. It turned into a big blue filter over everything. I've deleted it and gone back and repeated the process. Changed to a different picture... same results. What am I doing wrong???

Yes, speed wise. Separation Studio works well, but just keep an eye on that highlight white because it makes it really heavy when it's not necessary.

I have watched a few of your Simulated Spot Separation videos and am having a problem saving my finished file. When I open the Save As dialog the Alpha Channels and Layers options are not available to check. I am using CS6 and my file is currently RGB 16 bit. I have tried to save as different file types (TIFF, JPG, PNG) and they Channels/Layers options are still not available. I have also tried to change to 32 bits but then only Alpha Channels is a save option. I dont use Photoshop much, have been doing my artwork in Illustrator, and am running PrintFab for RIP software. I am at a complete loss as to why I am not able to save my file as you have shown in your videos. Do you have any insight on this? Thanks for your tutorials.
