Featured is the sharp chess miniature between Janis Mileika and 16-year-old Mikhail Tal from the 1953 Latvian Chess Championship. The young Mikhail Tal adopts the Benoni Defense and seizes the opportunity to exploit Janis Mileika's unconventional 4th move. Tal's energetic response prompts an immediate sub-optimal reply, and by move 9, a decisive position is already reached. #MikhailTal #BenoniDefense

Hey Jerry, been a big fan for about 9 years and watched every one of your videos, you are my favorite chess content creator and if you see this i’d really love to see you remake those 9-10 year old videos on classic games like fischer’s game of the century cause they are pretty dated and you have developed so much more at creating plus im sure your thoughts on the games are much more in depth now. Love ya Jerry! Hope you are well!

Just popping into the comments to say that I really love your channel, and I consistently take away ideas from your videos that come in handy in my real otb games. You're not as flashy as some of the other KZfaqrs, but I rank you up there with Naroditzky and Andras Toth in terms of real, meaningful educational value. Thank you for doing what you do.

Tal played 96% accuracy with zero errors while playing “non-typical” moves. Without engine prep or Moke Beads. Tal is an all time great.

This is also a good move-order trick to know for Nimzo / Queen's Indian players against the Catalan: 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. g3 c5 and if white follows with the logical 4. d5, you have transposed to the "improved" Benoni from the Tal game.

Really enjoyed the discussion of Nc3 vs g3. Sometimes an opponent will go off a little. I check to see if it might hurt me in a novel way but I don't think of how it puts them in a new position that I can take advantage of. Your example is simple and powerful.

With how flawless Tal played according to the tale of the tape, I'm surprised no one in 1953 accused him of using Stockfish on his second monitor.

Thank you. Jerry, is it...?.This was recommended and because it was Tal-did not recognize the game and didnt hesitate...you re very astute here...its Beyond clear that one does not have to be an opening automaton to demonstrate raw chess i.q. Every square counts-equating weak squares by the 4th move falls under the category of raw chess i.q and acuity. Tbh i saw this, too and reflexively saw Q-B6 but B5 is even more pronounced ...need to un-rust i see!

as a teenager in the early seventies I got hold of a hundred or so old copies of informator, one of those introduced me to the wonders of Tal and the Benoni. I do not seem to get away with the same now as i did a half century ago. Thanks Jerrry,

Wild game. I love Tal so much. I like to try to emulate his style, which any good chess player knows is usually kind of a bad idea. My rating would probably be a bit higher if I stuck to more traditional type of play, however I wouldn't be having nearly as much fun so it's a worthy trade-off

Where was Jerry born and raised? I hear an eastern Pennsylvania or Long Island accent. Can’t be sure. But fuck generic language without regional dialects. Humans aren’t built for that and language, by definition, is always in flux. Mid-wit take is that you’re smart because you speak with a generic accent. But you won’t agree.
