Jacksonville is a city in Onslow County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 United States census, the population was 70,145, which makes Jacksonville the 14th-largest city in North Carolina. Jacksonville is the county seat and most populous community of Onslow County, which is coterminous with the Jacksonville, North Carolina metropolitan area. In 2014, Forbes magazine ranked Jacksonville as the fifth-fastest growing small city in the United States. Demographically, Jacksonville is the youngest city in the United States, with an average age of 22.8 years old, which can be attributed to the large military presence. The low age may also be in part due to the population drastically going up over the past 80 years, from 783 in the 1930 census to 70,145 in the 2010 census.
It is the home of the United States Marine Corps' Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station. Jacksonville is located adjacent to North Carolina's Crystal Coast area.
On June 21, 2016, the City of Jacksonville, became the first jurisdiction to adopt a paid holiday honoring the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which made slavery in the United States and its territories illegal. The resolution of adoption targets the prevention of the modern slavery epidemic in the form of human trafficking, which includes forcing children to engage in labor and combat.

I left Jacksonville N.C. gladly after finishing my contract with the Marine Corps in 1994. Other than Onslow Beach on Camp Lejeune I thought Jacksonville was a shit hole. At the time, I hung out at the bars "LEGENDS" and "THUNDERBIRDS". Neither are there anymore as I have heard. Jacksonville was such a depressing place. I was so happy getting back to Massachusetts after doing my time in the Marine Corps. I loved being stationed in Okinawa Japan for a year however!

Wow! Downtown looks NOTHING like it did when I was stationed at Camp Lejeune in the late 70s & early 80s. The area was alive and kickin' at all times down there. Shop during the day, and party all night. So many great memories and people who worked in the establishments there. It's a ghost town now which is a shame. The state could at least revitalize the area like most cities are doing in other areas.

I grew up there. Downtown Jacksonville is where we all shopped back in the day. Great memories. If not for Camp Lejeune the place would be a ghost town. Does it say something about the politicians/leadership in that town? I don't know.

Half or more of the streets don't have signs. You don't know where you are! Most of the jobs here are minimum wage.

I lived in Jacksonville, NC from 1999 until 2001 before moving back to Jacksonville, Florida (I've lived in 2 Jacksonvilles) but nonetheless, I still have a lot of good memories of nostalgia here. I miss it still! Thanks for this, I subscribed to your channel.

Yep, this is what happens when a city is made too automobile friendly and lack any human scale development. The neighborhood needs mixed use, apartments with ground floor businesses and retail, townhouses, sidewalks, real public transit, and passenger rail needs to be reestablished.

Was station here at New Rivers, never really went into Jacksonville becuz I knew its a dead small town. I'm glad I was deployed for almost 1 year including the work ups and for 2 years I basically sat in my room playing games and never venturing into the city.
