@@bmuhamad@tadhgokeeffe2127. I've been listening to this time period,intently, for the last 2 years. I've come to call it Metal Jass. There's no comparing Miles to any other musician.
@bmuhamad10 ай бұрын
Interesting enough. Miles didn't call his music, Jazz or Jass of any sort. He just called it music. He played it Funky and open. He asked or implied, that his musicians be comfortable, creative, & in the moment. He started listening to Ornette Coleman's Harmolodic music. He had Sun Ra as a guest. So there you have it. At some point, he called it Blues, so maybe Electronic Blues, even heavily amplified. He also performed with Taj Mahal & John Lee Hooker in the movie, "The Hot Spot." Peace & Wholeness.

A freaking insane set. Can you believe that Miles almost died from too much partying just the day before? It’s some of his most impassioned playing from that time period

Dang this is off the chain! I hear something new every time I listen to this. This time Michael Henderson bass playing freaked me out. He made the bass have this growling sound. Total freak move. They all were getting off. When I listen tomorrow I wonder what new nuggets of sound will I pick up on. What creative experience will I get when I close my eyes and let my mind drift. So much fun!

I saw this group Easter of 1974 at the Chicago International Amphitheatre (now demolished.) I was 15 years old. It was the greatest thing I had heard and in some ways it still is.

It would not be surprising to me, if seeing Miles Davis in 1974 was the best show you've ever seen. This music is hard to top.

Miles liked to say, "I do what the day recommends". That's a level of freedom afforded to all great artists, and he knew it.

BY JEREMY ERWIN - ON MARCH 9, 2022 After three nights in Rio de Janeiro, the last of which was documented in a phenomenal 40-minute tape, the Miles Davis octet continued its tour of Brazil with a trio of shows at the Theatro Municipal in São Paulo. Originally booked to perform May 28 and 31, June 1 (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday), the band was forced to reschedule the Friday night gig after Miles, clearly still riding high after his 48th birthday celebration on May 26th, overindulged between shows. 12:13 Source: The Heat Warps

I've heard a few live recordings from this period. This show is one of the more inspired ones, in my opinion. There are some where the band doesn't land on a decent idea, or they're far in between, but this one has all kinds of interplay and dynamics going on. A bit shame that Davis was so doped out in the 70s.

Yes I've got it. I'll post in a few days. Side note "Funk" is played with the bassline from "Yesternow".
@cali22boi2 жыл бұрын
@@WorldSystemsMedia Mike seemed to play the second bass line for "Turnaroundphrase" more than the reprised "The Payback" theme that "Funk" is based off of. On June 2nd's performance, Mike played more of James Brown's songbook and even dabbled with Ohio Players style riff towards the end of "Funk". So far, June 2nd is my favorite performance of what is released of the 1974 tour of Brazil, not to take anything away from the rest, but if I were to showcase this group, June 2nd would be it.
