Very well done. I got a call last night at 10:30pm from an out of state BMW dealer. A guy had decided not to take the Xdrive he ordered and they asked me if I was interested (at sticker price). Took me 5 minutes to say yes. Got lucky, they are very hard to find without overpaying significantly.

That valley driving really is something else.. so exhilarating. And the 0-60 time is shocking. Almost the perfect car except for the fact that the exhaust doesn’t pop

It does pop, just not crazy loud or with the valves closed. Just drove one for a day and it made all the right noises (at the right level IMO). Check the Remus sport full exhaust for it if you want to hear what it can sound like "unleashed"

The valves have to open and it has to be in certain modes. At least that’s how it is on my 18 como package

Just picked up a 2023 Xdrive comp. In San Paulo Yellow. 3 m4 I owned and by far the best. I absolutely love the car. I do not miss my F90 M5 which I sold.

I’ve only seen a g80 in person in really got to check it out and it’s really a beautiful car. Love everything about the new g series just because they have all the stuff you would really want to drift and be comfortable at the same time.

As much as I’m not a huge fan of the big grill, this is probably the most perfect car in the world for me, if I had the money. Very sporty, luxurious, practical coupe that I could actually use in the snowy winter and summer. And I think I like overall the looks better than the RS5

Funny I just found this, just ordered am isle of man green with the carbon Silverstone interior and carbon packages with carbon ceramic brakes 😍 I was on the fence for the seats because some say they're hard but most are like your and saying they're comfy. I drove the 6spd and felt the auto (when manual shift) was way more fun!

I actually cross-shopped this with the C8 HTC, even though they may not be considered direct competitors. Ended up going with the Corvette, but may have been tempted by the M4 or M3 X-drive if they looked nicer and didn’t come out so heavy. Plus the ‘vette has a way cooler transmission

I think you made the right choice. The vette will do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds all day every day. IMHO think it looks better as well.

Great review! Your video for the X3 M40i helped confirm my purchase of that vehicle as a practical yet sporty-ish daily driver, so thank you. Regarding this M4 Competition (xDrive/automatic), would you prefer its overall driving experience to that of the Cadillac CT5V-Blackwing (RWD/manual)?

Thank you for letting me know my review was helpful, Clark! The CT5-V Blackwing is the best sedan I've ever driven. Steering, braking, soundtrack, suspension variability, and gearbox are just incredible. That takes nothing away from the M4 Comp xDrive dynamics, it just speaks to how well engineered the Blackwing feels.

The point of the backup assist isn’t getting out of your parking spots, that would be displayed the same way a parkingspot is offered. The backup assist is just reversing exactly the way you drove before. It’s quite useful when your stuck in a dead end.

I started watching this after just getting back from lunch. My car is a 2012 Jaguar XK-R. When you described the staggered tire widths it hit me: it suddenly struck me just how similar it is to this new M4. My Jag: 275s in front , 285s in back. Same weight. Same form factor (2+2 coupe). Very similar power: Jag is 510h/470t, M4 is 503h/479t. Same fuel economy, 16/23. However the M4 Comp is a full second faster to 60 (though the top end is about the same as the Jag, 180mph). I'd say that one second mostly comes from the more modern transmission. At first I was like "man, I'd love to have an M4 Comp" but then as I watched, I realized I already have one! 🙂

You are correct that the transmission plays a role, but it's really the AWD system. Your XK-R can only put all its power to the rear wheels, which means it has two fewer "claws" to pull it forward.

Having driven it (off camera), I can say it's not one I'm itching to review. The performance is tremendous, but the ride is so firm, I don't think I'd recommend it.

I'm still so confused by BMW. Is the added weight of the xDrive a penalty or is it better for lap time? I've been really impressed by the X Drives I've driven, and I know you have more grip going through the apex, but I have heard that the transmission drag slows you down, racers don't like them, and of course they weigh more. When are we going to get track comparisons? And what would they reveal?

If you're planning to drive it in the snow, I would go with AWD over RWD.

From my experience at the local track the xdrive one is much faster. M4's stock 275 tires cannot handle the amount of power it puts down at the rear wheels and even with a 305 square setup it still struggles.
