Welcome to #Primm, Nevada which sits only 30 minutes from the Las #Vegas #Strip. Today we have casino tours of the historic Whiskey Pete's and Primm Valley Resorts. Ever wonder who Whiskey Pete is or why this place exists? Hint: It started as a place to sell moonshine!
During this mega tour we'll visit the casinos, pools and other cool areas of both Whiskey Pete's and Primm Valley. We also tour the completely #dead #mall attached to one of the casinos. It may not have a lot of stores left, but there is so much inside you want to see!
If you've only ever driven past Primm or haven't yet had time to explore "State Line" then you'll love this video! Tell me what you think of that glass elevator at Whiskey Pete's and the insane art work at the mall!
Check out our full tour of the shuttered Buffalo Bill's casino also in Primm - • Shuttered Vegas: Buffa...

I have so many memories here. I opened Buffalo Bills in August 1994. I was the daytime stage bar bartender. This little town was buzzing then. Gary Primm was big on having his bars sell huge $1 hot dogs. Gary's wife's name was Donna, hence the name Primadonna. Before he sold to MGM this was established as Primm Nevada. It breaks my heart to see it this way. When Star of the Desert Arena opened in 1997 I worked some of the back stage events and met Tammy Wynette, BB King, Zz Top, Roy Clark, Joe Diffie, Marc Colley, Billy Ray Cyrus and so many more. I've seen Johnny Cash and June Carter Waylon Jennings, Tricia Yearwood, Earth Wind and Fire and more. BB King used to do blues concerts there every August and brought acts like Etta James, Aaron Neville, Jimmy Vaughn. I would so look forward to August I will always remember it packed with people and smiling faces. I hope some day, someone will buy the property and restore it to what it was back then.

Bonnie, I can almost guarantee you poured me a few. I saw a few concerts at the Star, and proud to say I ate many a hot dog at the bars. I loved the animatronic Characters above the bar. And Yes Primm was hoppin back then. Thank you for invoking a flood of memories.

I know Gary he was my next door neighbor. I remember when he built out Primm in the early 90’s. He sold out to Herbst family, got divorced & lives in Newport Beach. Triple nice guy & good friend. Gary’s grandfather got all that State line land for nothing on land grants in the late 1800’s. His dad started the “first chance, last chance” gambling theme sometime in the 50’s(I’m guessing) and fuel stations. Gary turned it into what it is now. Business started slowing down there in the 2000’s. I’m not sure why. Nice video, thanks

I grew up in Southern California and on Friday afternoon we would load up in my Grandparents RV and hit the I15 headed to Vegas. Always watched for Zzyzx road because I knew Baker would soon be there for a stretch, and to again witness the sun begin its retreat behind the desert mountains that seemed to stretch to eternity.. Back on the road for the dreaded 8% 17 mile making of the grade that laid waste to many a family truckster.. Finally as the sun depletes its energy we crawl through the mountain pass to see Nipton rd. Exit. Over the crest as the valley displays this beacon of humanity in the middle of nowhere known as "stateline". A white and red line that stretched endlessly to Whisky Pete's as the welcoming to a albeit strange but welcome respite from the daily grind known as SoCal.. I remember whiskey petes was a single level with a cheap facade and a gas station. When the Death car came in the mid 80s it was exciting at that time.. Imperial Place used to have an amazing car collection that was always worth seeing. From liberace' personal car with chandeliers on the fender to Hitlers Mercedes limousine. That whole era has long past and I hate seeing it...

We stopped and got the .99 cent breakfast (yes .99 cents) and for .99 cents we received the following: three eggs, hash browns, bacon, ham, toast, orange juice and coffee for .99 cents. Really an amazing deal, even in 1983. In 1983 there was only Whiskey Pete's, The Prime Casino, Buffalo Bill's and the mall were not there at that time. This was in the day of Coin Slot Machines. My first time in Whiskey Pete's was in 79. The place was smaller, but it was hopping, smokey, and loud with the CLAK,CLAK,CLAK,CLAK of the coins hitting the coin tray, just like a casino should be. I was 21 and the place amazed me. I moved to Henderson from Caly so I drove across the 15 a lot. Did'nt matter if I was coming or going I stopped at Whiskey Pete's. in the mid 80s I made the mistake of moving back to Caly. I watch them grow. I continued stopping there all thru the 80s & 90s, driving past the steamboat on one end and Baker on the other end to get to Whiskey Pete's. In the 90s you could get a good steak at the casino. There was a smaller casino across the Freeway with rolls of trailers behind it that workers lived. The trailers are gone put the cement pads are still there. Stateline grew and grew. Somewhere in this time frame the casinos got rid of the coins, there went the CLAK,CLAK,CLAK, that so many of us enjoyed. In 2000s the steak house went away and was replaced with a Ihop and McDonalds,. The decline has started, I continued stopping every time I was by there. I found a candy store in Buffalo Bill's where I could get jaw breakers the size of a baseball for the kids. That went away. Into the 2010s I continue to stop a Whiskey Pete's for there $1.50 hot dogs and shrimp cocktail. Folks I have seen the rise and fall of stateline . The last time I was in Whiskey Pete's they did'nt have any hot dogs and my shrimp cocktail was frozen. I asked myself why I wasted my time and stopped, that was in 2018. Well old habits are hard to break, in a couple of weeks I will be passing thru there and I guess I have to stop just for old times. After watching this maybe my old haunt needs to be torn down like the steamboat and build a gas station.

Seeing the Primm exit from the highway was a beacon of hope after a long drive. Also, I'm shocked that the outlet mall has declined so much... I used to shop there in the late 2000's and early 2010's to get cheap trendy clothes for college. Perhaps they will make a comeback at some point

I went to work at Whiskey Pete's back in 1982 before all of the expansion took place. 20 stool bar, 35 seat restaurant. Tourists by the bus loads (bus drivers got a $100. kickback for stopping). Some one came up with the bright idea of selling $1.00 hot dogs at the bar (where I worked) & 50¢ draft because the restaurant couldn't handle the crowds during their one hour stop. Weekends we would sell over 1000 hot dogs in an 8 hour shift!!! At the time most employees lived in the trailers that were just north of the property that is all parking lot now. Good times. I also helped open Kactus Kate's Casino (the former Tower Casino) in 1984 where Buffalo Bill's parking is today. I still love the area & visit quite often. Hated to see everything closed when Covid hit. Took a drive out there & everything was dark & vacant minus WP truck stop. I have several videos of my visit shared here on KZfaq also during my visit. I lived in San Diego at the time so I stayed in all of those hotels. Grew tired of the food selections especially McDonald's. I can count the times I've had Mickey D's on one hand since then. I remember going there and the Mall was packed, this was our go to destination for a weekend getaway. Shopping and gambling and the kids enjoyed the Buffalo Pool. Busses coming in Friday and Saturday packed with people. We preferred to stay at Buffalo Bills, when some of the outlet stores started closing we asked several employees at other stores what was going on, the information we got back from them was the Mall owners were raising the rent prices, once that happened stores started closing and every time we went back less and less people. It was very convenient to have the mall connected to the casino and the monorail to get back and forth. Bring the mall back to life and the people will come back. Concerts were awesome at Buffalo Bills, I miss it.

Great Video, Thanks for the tour. And thanks for showing me stuff I missed every time I went trough there on the way to Vegas. I had no idea the Bonny and Clyde death car was in Whiskey Pete's, and I have been there at least 6-7 times. Watching your Video also made me very sad about the state of the Economy in Nevada.

Passed through prime in June 2022, stopped at the outlet mall and was shocked to see it empty. The artwork is beautiful, a good place to stretch your legs before heading to Vegas. Visiting* the lotto store across state lines is fun as well. Hopefully the mall will come back. Will have to explore the hotels next time I come back.

I was sort of shocked last year when I went for the first time in awhile to see most of the stores gone. It looks mostly the same from then so I hope the brands that are left continue to do well and hopefully it can build back up. The art makes it worth a start if only for its uniqueness.

Me and my gf came to the mall last year and we loved it. We got super good deals at the H&M outlet and some of the candy machines were open at the top and we helped ourselves 😂 It was kind of depressing for me too because I remembered coming here as a kid when it was busier. I've never been to Whiskey Pete's before though and I didn't know the Bonnie and Clyde car was there. I definitely need to check it out when I go to Vegas again for the first time being over 21 🥳 Edit: Also at the mall we ate Charley's which was pretty good and there was a little arcade section with one of those basketball hoop games but it was broken so we spent like an HOUR just playing basketball for free 😄 That was so fun

Great place as a kid. BB had the rides and arcade. Take the tram to Whiskey for the water slide(after BB removed it’s slide). And bus it to Primm for some food and shopping. Some of our trips didn’t even go into Vegas. Primm was enough. It’s too bad it didn’t hold up, but I believe there is hope. They should work a deal with a casino to shuttle people 24/7 into Vegas as the drive back was always daunting late at night.

When Vegas was at full strength it always boggled my mind the sheer volume of gambling that was available. It’s going to be interesting to see what survives and how Vegas looks in 5 years.

When gambling was only legal in Nevada and Atlantic City the amount of money going through the casinos was incredible. Now that 48 states have legalised gambling in some form and Macau took away all the Asian customers its a pale shadow of what it used to be. The demographics of the 'typical' Vegas visitor has changed completely in the last 30 years. It's a much younger, hipper crowd who really aren't interested in gambling very much.
@dmannevada5981

@@Veaseify Actually...with all due respect, your comment is an urban myth-often stated by people. The reality is(before Covid of course), the people paid to know, understood that as gaming increased around the country(and internationally), Vegas would increase it's visitors as interest in gaming increased. They knew that people would want to go to the "Mecca" of gaming, hence during the period of legalization of gaming... is when Vegas saw it's biggest expansion. Also, the demographics didn't change, new demographics just were added, as younger people were interested in the nightclubs-hence the massive investment in clubs by all the properties. Gaming didn't decrease, it's just that revenue from nightclubs, restaurants(high end dinning), shopping and shows(why the long term contracts given to iconic acts) dramatically increased. Vegas was continually setting record visitor counts before Covid.
@Veaseify
@Veaseify 3 жыл бұрын
@@dmannevada5981 Visitors were definitely increasing year on year but gaming revenue has been going down since 2013 on the Strip. In that year the 41 strip casinos produced $3,516,346,000 in gaming revenue. In 2019 51 casinos produced $3,144,200,000. Thats over 11% reduction in just 6 years despite the addition of 25% more casinos. Source: gaming.unlv.edu/reports/NV_1984_present.pdf

I stopped at Whiskey Pete's in a big truck several times more than 15 years ago. They had truck parking and a diesel fuel island. I seem to recall that the south edge of the parking lot was right at the state line. At that time, the story about the monorail was that after 911 it was stopped because it goes over the interstate, and presumably could be used with a bomb or guns.
