Just my humble opinion/addition following on to the above bit of wisdom and 😎good advice😎 (Yup, sunglasses an absolute must!) I was thinking that you would need the "Mother of ALL Flamethrowers..... 😳😵!! .....considering that you would be standing up in a machine howling along at 300+ miles per hour doing all kinds of insane doodles across the sky since Fat Herman demanded it be a Fighter (Ohh but I get your point Von Neely....😁🙃!), Man.....your balls would not only instinctively climb back into your body as expected.....but...they wouldn't stop till they reached your throat 🤓!! "Natcherly" as a "Flamethrower-man" in good standing with most of your own skin still attached to your body I would imagine that you , like your ancestral potential battlefield "Ronsons" before you understand the mantra; With the wind goood......against the wind BAAAADD (GRIN)!!?!

There is an amazing book in Swedish on the bf110 written by the Grandson of Wolfgang Thimmig a bf110 Ace witch spent most of the war as a night fighter with his brother as gunner. The book is filled with pictures they took during the war up in the air and of their free time at base even their different diplomas for winning certain medals one of them signed by Mr fatty doo doo him self aka Hermann Göring. Anyway it's got tons of interesting notes about the the different models of bf110s he flew written down by Wolfgang him self during ww2 and several deep descriptions of the victories he scored. A literal translation of the books title to English would be "Night Hunters" Hope it gets published in more languages.

For those of you wondering about the "saddle drum" operation. There is no linked belt feed that is typical for a machine gun. The individual rounds that are stacked in the drums are pushed through the spiral feed path built into each drum by a spring that unwinds from the center of each drum. Both drums feed the weapon in a alternating manner, right drum, then left drum, repeat until drums are empty. The MG 15 could empty a saddle drum in about 5 seconds of continuous fire.
@jakek584265
@jakek584265 7 жыл бұрын
As a m240 gunner in the army I use to count the bursts not the rounds. I had a fairly constant 6-7 round burst per trigger pull. So approximately 15-16 trigger pulls for a 100 round belt. You get pretty consistent with training. Just like the drum on the top weapon we would us visual just for a backup.

Hi, Bismarck. At 5:30, it's called a 'saddle drum'. It's basically a circular magazine, no belts used. A modern example would be the Beta C-mag. The Luger had something similar called the snail drum.

I was staring at these blasters in Battlefront and went "This is an MG42... This is a Luger... This is a Lewis gun... This is an AK-47 or STG44 (Based on just overall appearance, I'd say STG44)" At first, I thought maybe it was because they were easy to get their hands on these "surplus" guns for either simple or no modifications... But that doesnt seem viable

I think in the 70s there were quite a few around still. The rebels assaultrifle is a STG, the E-11 Blaster of the stormtroopers is a sten gun. Guess you'll find quite some listing on the interwebs about those

Iv got quite the inconsistency to point out with regards to the radio. you said that the EK was the shortwave radio transmitter and the EL was the longwave transmitter however the radios clearly display the frequency that the operate on (3700 khz for EK and 370 Mhz for the EL). Well lets get into the maths. with wavelength = speed of light / frequency and knowing that the speed of light is aprox. 3*10^8 we can calculate the wavelength given these radios frequency: Starting with the shortwave radio running at 3700khz (3.7*10^6 Hz) we find the wavelength to be aprox 81.0m (3*10^8 / 3.7*10^6 = 81.08) Now knowing that the shortwave radio's wavelength is about 81m lets do the calculations for the long wave, The longwave uses a frequency of 370Mhz which is 3.7*10^8 Hz therefore: 3*10^8/3.7*10^8 = 0.81m wavelength. This shows that using the frequencies used in game the long wave actually has the shorter wavelength and vice versa. Now im not sure if this is a minor translation error or if its a mistake on the developers part but i just thought it's worth mentioning. Also i'm probably sad AF for noticing this immediately. Edit: I made a typo.
@MilitaryAviationHistory
@MilitaryAviationHistory 7 жыл бұрын
No, you are right. I checked the frequencies of the actual radios and EL didn't add up. I didn't say anything in the video since I don't know much about frequencies and wasn't sure if it was just me or not. I presume it is a mistake by the developers. There are a few of these in fact, for example a word in the Bf 110 (near the crank for the arial) that is missing it's first letter. They are small things no one notices until someone makes a video about it ;). Really good spot !

The technical term for the little holes in the ammo magazine that let you see if there are bullets or not is "witness holes." The ammo is pushed along the inside of the drum by a spring and isn't on a belt, so you'd just call that part the ammo drum.

I'm reminded of talking to a german veteran about being an instructor pilot for Me-110. He told me of his last flight....He told the student to land...He...sitting behind...didn't see the student's action. When aircraft "touched down " He was informed via sliding on the field. Came to a stop by the body passed between two trees leaving the wings behind. He was furious and fed up and told his supiriors "HE QUITED"...Was given a ground job.

Fun fact, the MG15 was so called as Germany wasn’t meant to be developing or making any new machine guns, so calling it the MG26 would have been a giveaway.

5:45: their called 'drums'. They're also the best large capacity magazine, they combine the capacity of box magazines with the reliability of sickle types. The downside is they're shitty to manufacture, and waste lots of space in shipping.

I really like your videos, mein Herr. Any idea what that half circle window on the right is for? Odd to have asymmetrical canopy glazing unless it has a purpose, nicht wahr?

You can open that up in flight and take pictures to the outside etc. Also gives you the option to hand stuff to the outside without having to open the canopy.

I can't imagine how terribly deafening the wind noise would have been with the gunner's canopy open during flight. Were they designed so that it wouldn't be as bad as I think it would be, or did the Luftwaffe commanders simply tell the gunners to get over it? I remember that the sirens on Stukas initially ran constantly, and it was only after much complaint by pilots that they were redesigned so that their operation was controlled by a switch, so I'm wondering how bad the open canopy would have been.

I wish the defensive gunner's canopy was open in the War Thunder Bf 110, even if it was just in gunner view (for drag reasons). As is its got a very limited field of fire.

Liked the video BM. Fly the Bf-110 in Il-2 a lot. One question though. Did they keep all the empty shells in the small bag underneath the gun? And i believe the gunner could also fire the gun without opening the hatch. The arch of fire was limited but it caused less drag.

I have a question, I noticed that the ammo drums seem to be 2 sided but only one side has markings so the gun, presumably, only feeds from the right hand side. If that is the case, then what is the left hand side of the drum for? Is it for collecting the spent shell casings?

I was hoping you would say that the empty ammo canisters were usually thrown at Spitfires... I wonder how much weight would be saved if the gunner and equipment were removed from a 110 and the fuselage redesigned.
