This is great, exactly what I was looking for - direct descriptions of the how and the why something is wrong and example outcomes. Saves me going through another 20 minute video skipping past what stretching is, what a whirlpool is etc. Evidence based and efficient, fits well with the Decent ethos.

I finally nailed the milk steaming; for the longest time, my texture was good, but the milk would go under and create no art. Put the steam wand in the spout toward the center of the pitcher, and this being the key, tilt to the right or left toward the wall until you get a circular swirl around the edge (all the way around). You want this swirl and not mountains; you will get milk art every time.

Btw I turned down the flow rate to 1.9, allows me to focus and no negative effects from it.

When I was learning to do it at home I realized I must take it easy. So what I did was "studying" what every variable does but one at a time, I took notes and photos and eventually I succeed. It's not the perfect foam but thanks to it I got hired in a coffee shop as manager and managed to make better ones on pro grade machines when true barista was absent and clients were satisfied. Thing is, if you're not running for world championship take it easy on yourself, no pressure no pun intended.

Just as most other people on the planet, I only have access to UHT milk. The stuff won't steam well, whatever technique you use.

Typically, how long should you aerate for (with a Decent)?

You can aerate for around 3 seconds but I tend to stop around 100f. Not a constant aerate, just chirp here and there. If you stop a little earlier, it's ok, your final milk will have a little less foam on the very top.. If you distribute in a circular swirl, you will get latte art.

How much milk would you recommend to steam in Decent 350 pitcher? Should it be about a half way full? Thanks

6oz to 8oz (150ml to 200ml)

My milk always falls to the bottom and only at the very end does it stay on top. Can you help me

You are most likely have not incorporated enough air (chirping noise) into your milk or pouring too fast

I had the same problem, put the steam wand down the spout toward the center and tip the pitcher toward the wall (either side) until you get a circular swirl around the edge. You will get latte art milk everytime. You don't want mountains or valleys. Chirp here and there until 80F-100F, then just distribute.

Sounds like you may not have incorporated enough foam when steaming or pouring too fast or far from the shot surface.
