If it weren't so expensive, I'd probably plunge right on in to this stuff. I've got quite a bit of land, and there's some 'industries' I can serve (garden, orchard, compost, firewood, dump). I could probably work out a route, but no matter what, if I want to extend the line to the back of the property, a pretty significant bridge will be needed.

Wife says I can make a loop around the property, my plan is to make a couple sidings to haul firewood to fire pit and a service area with shed for loco's and cars

Nice layout, wish i had the room. I'm only on 1 acre with mine.

Thanks. You can still build a small railroad on an acre. There are people around the world who have less than that and have small railways around their houses or a track from the garage to the street to move the trash to the curb and bring in firewood. You will need to be more creative with a small area, but it is doable.

Is this railroad something you needed a building permit for? I'm talking just the tracks not any supporting structures.

It varies by jurisdiction. Check your local zoning laws. As far as the law is concerned: If it's not prohibited, it's allowed.

I know its electric, but it sure sounded like there was a small 4-cylinder diesel under the hood!

That's because the chains were dry.

@@paulsmith5398 Now that I've watched it through again, it wasn't dry chains. That's the traction motor you were hearing. That was the 70 on a good day. Pre-rebuild.

@@MillBrookRailroad seems like theres just as much, if not more, maintenance on a small size rail line, and you do a darn good job keeping it running!
