To answer your question "Is there anything they don't do?" They don't sing boring songs with meaningless lyrics. Seriously, you should always check the lyrics first, or pick their songs from a channel where you can find English subtitles (e.g. Educatedmarine or Bucksttabu). Without the lyrics, you're missing out on the best part of their songs.

Well. Pu$$y, Bück dich, das alte Leid, Küss mich etc. are not really „full of meaning“. They are as basic as 50 Cents’ Candyshop.

@@daray666 I think they were telling this to the original commenter. To the op- lyrics aren't everything, they use a lot of double meanings and words with no direct English translation. Watching videos with subtitles won't really make much sense for some.

Here's a twist in the song. He sings I hurt you all the time and he does terrible things to someone, but in the end it turns out that he says all this in a mirror. So to himself. The stage show also fits the theme wonderfully. Some people simply feel more comfortable and like new person after self-harm. That's exactly what happens here with Christian "Flake" Lorenz. He is thrown into the bathtub in a black suit, doused with sparks and comes out in a glitter suit. A new person. Also, the funny thing is that Till Lindemann is actually a quite shy person, playing a role on stage that's completely different from his private life.

@@millennialmeetsmusicOh, I completely agree. It's the same for movies. The first time around you take the whole experience, then you learn so much more when you watch it for the second, third and so on times. You start to learn the little things that may have missed on the first time around and that's how Rammstein videos are. Also, it's always great to learn trivia's as well and then your mind takes it from a whole different point of view! 😎👌

If you listen to the song the first minutes, you got the impression it is about an extreme S/M relationship, because Till is telling what he does to another person and this other person loves him for that. But as always with Rammstein, there is more. The key are the lyrics in the calm part of the song: You are the ship, I am the the captain, where should this journey go? I see your face in the mirror, you love me because I don't love you. I hurt you, I don't feel sorry about it, it's good for you, hear him scream! So, the song is all about HIMSLEF and perhaps a fight within. This one line changes it all: is he really hurting himself, perhaps as a result of a psychic disorder? Or is it more metaphoric, like an inner fight with another part of his personality? Much room for interpretation, brilliant writing!

Ok. So I too am a millennial, class of 87. I found out about Rammstein in the late 90s as a teen. Till (singer) is an AMAZING singer, they have many amazing songs. May I suggest ich Will. Sonne. Amerika. There’s so many endless hits. This very song was actually my pro wrestling music when I wrestled in Korea. Was looking up “making of” the actual video. Which is crazy he drilled a hole in his mouth for a light instead of cgi. Dedication. But yeah that’s how I found this. Flake (keyboardist) and Till are the best on stage duo every ALWAYS doing something crazy live

Well done!

real pyrotechnics, yes. Till got licensed years ago after someone got hurt, or almost got hurt. I doubt he runs all of it but he does make sure nobody steps into the literal fire. VERY astute to spot the glove. if you look at how he is standing, he is VERY balanced, standing with his legs planted and in very stiff control. he is no danger, by design. his center of balance is forward, which gives him that odd looking stance. humans normally don't stand like that, we stand almost off balance toward the back.

I'm no magican or anything of an Expert, but I would assume that sparks is not dangerous from that range, i magine you sitting close to a Camp Fire and the Sparks are flying from it. It looks impressive but not dangerous at all. Flake is in the Bathtub the entiere time (if you rewatch it, you can see under the Tub), but I'm pretty sure they have a fire/security blanket down there from the start. Perhaps Flakes new (or old) Cloth are very fire resistant, and I would assume there is a reason for him changing Cloth. And while Till is up there, he have a perfect view of when Flake is ready. Ps. Becky: You have to give him a Moment he is in a bathtub.. The rest of us: And he is ready for a hot shower :D

Yes they are pretty much also stunt men. They do the music, the pyro, the stunts, the acting, the everything.. I may be wrong but I believe in the bathtub there was a sheet of metal for Flake to shelter beneath, and you are sort of correct on the outfit - he did have the sparkly suit on before but it was underneath a large heavy thick black jacket in the beginning, which is basically like a fire blanket, fire protection thing, iirc.I don't think it was a trapdoor or anything, the bath moves as you see when Till gets back down from the platform. I think Flake basically gets under the big coat and the metal sheet, so when he reemerges the coat must stay in the bath. Also I get anxious with the height of the tiny platform Till stands on during this, the music has such a driving beat I'd accidentally move my feet or something dumb! But it likely gives a very clear vantage point of Flake Also the pyro is real. And there is always pyro! For more songs where Till actually opens up and sings more, try Seemann, Fruhling in Paris (a personal favourite, I like the live in Nimes 2017, or the studio version), Klavier, Ohne Dich, Zeit, Mein Herz Brennt... just for starters!

If you look this video a few times you can see the smart cuts from the producers. Every time you have a short view over the shoulder of Till. So you don't see that the tub is empty. But in the moment when Till goes up you can see the keyboarder shortly talking to the drummer. I love to see how entertainers make magical moments for the audience. Rammstein has so many puzzle pieces on the stage to enchant the fans every single song. 🤗

Flake is indeed in the tub all the time. There's a cover that goes over him that protects from the sparks; you can see a few bounce off the cover as well. Flake uses the time to strip off the black overalls and boots to reveal the glitter suit he was wearing underneath. You can see a quick flash of the glitter suit when he kicks Till. The person talking with the drummer is bassist Oliver, who moves from his usual spot on the drummer's right to his left to accommodate the rising platform. Watch when Till gets on the platform, you'll see a tech clip a leg support around his ankle to keep him in position.

The cover in the bathtub can be seen in live recordings form other performances, where the director did not take care to preserve the magic. They actually show Flake slide under and flip the cover shut. The real magic is how he managed to strip in that tiny space!

Not dissing you, but you should spend more time learning languages. English (just like Flemish, which is my main tongue) are Germanic languages. If you'd look at it, you'd find out there's lots of similarities between English and German and even Flemish (because, hey, we Flemish startd loads of settlements along the East coast of England, all the way up til Scotland. Cities like Brighton and Newport ((in Wales)) were originally Flemish settlements). "Engel" is the same as "Angel". England comes from "land of the Angels". Angel-Land or "Engel-Land", because, contrary to what we're shown in TV-series, the invaders from Scandinavia were blond-haired and blue-eyed. Angels from the North, so to speak. Danes, Norwegians and Swedes weren't all dark haired and coal-eyed. Most of them were blond and their eyes were light in colour. Which, in the end, has absolutely nothing to do with Rammstein and their music. Hey, I like you and I want you to become smart, like me *cough*.

Flemish isn't a language my dear southern neighbor. The language you speak of is called Dutch :P There are also no Flemish settlements in Britain because it was much, much later that you decided to be your own people. Those settlements were Germanic, perhaps with people from your region, but there was no such thing as Flemish people yet.
