Milling Black Walnut - through 'n through method

8 жыл бұрынThrough-‘n-through milling of Black Walnut (Juglans nigra)
Shrinkage in Black Walnut is low, it does not have prominent ray cells and growth stresses are not a problem so I can mill it the easy way on my Norwood LM36 portable sawmill. After milling the timber is stickered and strapped back in log form for air-drying. This log is from a 44-year-old plantation.

No stress in THAT log! Kind of looks like a caterpillar the way the stress seems to undulate as the blade goes down the log.

If you are in the states you can get those from a store that sells heavy duty packaging such as U-Line or McMaster Carr

what were the dimensions of this log? seems small while it is being cut, but much larger when you move them by hand.

I think it was about 44cm in diameter. The 'throat' of the sawmill is about 75cm (largest cut)
